... to try and download a short movie, the URL it gives me is http://www.dancingonice.com/goodfellas/main.4.swf

From where I am situated there is no "www.dancingonice.com" except being redirected to iTV.
And on iTV there is nothing at all, (no videos, that is) because it is all for U.K. citizens only.

There is also the more expensive way to do this: YouTube Music Downloader, a nice looking giveawayoftheday present I had some time ago. I have not yet tried to used it - you know, easy comes, easy goes (out of mind) - but the company's asking price is €20 or $30, so the ambitions should be high, one would like to think. However, somehow I am afraid it is more about good looking, than about doing - but time will show!

- no "merge" yet...

Brett is a wonderful skilled photographer, really nice pictures!

- but of course a little sad that the thumbnails leads to more "thumbnails", so to speak. It would otherwise have been so obvious to use these fantastic pictures as wallpapers. I will of course do so, Thank You, Brett!, but first I must use Image Compressor 2008 Pro (to enlarge, not to compress), version giveawayoftheday, like I did on this next clickable one, but the originals were compressed quite a lot, so the result may not be fully satisfying.

... That's a good idea.  I often keep a few notes in MemPad, even if nowhere else.

The latest 3.31 beta update a week ago made me re-install MemPad
- because Horst has corrected the previous hotkey mistake (both hide AND popup at 'ESC'):

08 July 2008:

    * Mouse wheel: focus auto change behaviour improved
    * Auto-save when minimizing to SystemTray (if auto-save is active)

Now MemPad can compete with my beloved FlashNote:up:

... Bolide Software. ... inform you about our Duplicate Image Remover.

Well, maxic never did come back. I will nevertheless assume that he will be reading this.

Image Comparer 3.0 build 702 giveawayoftheday from Bolide is very good at it's job. I have only one or two minor requests for further improvement, otherwise IC3 is some kind of a leader, I think. Well, actually I might also have a one big request.

The minor requests are about the display of each image's file name. The only way to read the name is to activate the picture, so the titel becomes visible right under the big thumbnail. The window doesn't even support tooltips, which I think it should. But even more than tooltips, I would prefer to be able to grab the bothering line "C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\My Documents\..." and draw that part of it to the left, out of sight, so the actual folder- and file- names for all images becomes visible.

Context menus:

ic3-1.gif  ic3-2.gif  ic3-3.gif

The bigger request is for Image Comparer to also support the various Webshots formats (WBC WBP WBZ WB1 and WBD). The source code for Ultimate Webshots Converter is available from the author at uwc[at]apinc[dot]org

General Software Discussion / Beerwin's PlainHTML (and CSS)
« Last post by Curt on July 13, 2008, 09:57 AM »
I was surprised that I didn't find any mentioning on DonationCoder of Beerwin's PlainHTML. However, the program, which we then don't seem to know..., was updated yesterday, to 5.6.2 But really, I am not much of a coder, so it would be quite untrustworthy of me to try to tell a lot about this program, but I can say that to me it looks very useful for homepage making, be it HTML or CSS, or what do we have.

Beerwin's PlainHtml is a powerful HTML source editor with PHP toolbuttons, many JavaScript and HTML snippets and complete HTML, PHP, Javascript 1.3 , CSS and CGI reference. All this is completed with an Extender which offers the possibility of extending the main program.

PlainHTML is freeware.

Have can it be done in batch if he needs only the selected text?  If I misunderstood this, and the text doesn't have to be marked, but the need is to convert a number of homepages to text, then merely google HTML2TXT - there are plenty to choose from.

This one is quite old:

What is HTML2TXT

HTML2TXT lets you you convert HTML files to TXT format. It removes the HTML tags and also reformats the text, based on the web site layout. You can convert multiple files or entire folders in a single run.

freeware.

General Software Discussion / Direcscape: don't get lost in your project
« Last post by Curt on July 09, 2008, 06:49 PM »
When I read about Direcscape I had to give it a try, because I simply could not understand what it was about! I downloaded the file, 680 KB, and double-clicked it. It is a WinZip SelfInstaller that will unpack to the silly folder name, "Install Direcscape". Would you go looking under the letter "I" to find Direcscape? I wouldn't, so I unpacked the container again to see what had happened. I found it and installed it in a folder named extSoftware. I tell you these minor details because the Direcscape installer will not create any shortcuts for you, so...

At the end of installation you are told to move a folder from the program's folder to My Documents:

direcscape.gif

Now came the big question: What the heck was I to do with this program? At first I found it to be extremely strange if it was supposed to be some kind of a file manager that would navigate. But it isn't. All it will do if you click inside the program is to open Explorer. Hmm...!?? It certainly took me more than a moment to understand what was happening. And studying the readme.txt didn't do much ("This is a sample file." End of story!). Well, the program actually comes with a chm help file and a link to on-line tutorials, so eventually I started to figure out what it all is about. And because of the tutorials you really don't need me to tell much. But I will say that as I kept on trying the program, it became clear to me how smart it is that the author has left it to Explorer to do what Explorer is meant to do, instead of trying to make Direcscape replace Explorer.

But what is it then, Direscape? No matter what intentions the author may have for this program, I will say that Direcscape is a VERY fine tool to prevent you (me) from getting lost in a project - I would say Direcscape is a project viewer, if ever there was one. I would also call it a Project Organizer, but in the sense that I will organize the view of the project's folders and files, not the project itself, if you know what I mean.

This is what you see when you finally execute the program:

direc01.gif

- at first it doesn't make much sense, does it? It didn't to me
which is why I won't explain much further, but mostly leave it to you and the tutorials

When I clicked "Computer", I was taken to the folder I earlier had moved to My Documents:

direc02.gif

As your project escalates the Direcscape application may show you something like this (1024x768, 84KB):

Window.jpg

A few words from the company:

Product Description
Direcscape is an innovative software application that is like no other.    (Amen!)
While, most software file management programs look like Windows Explorer (Windows File Manager), Direcscape has a unique interface that improves access to files and documents by enhancing the view of folders (directories). Since one is able to manage directories more efficiently, one can organize files and organize directories more effectively.

Direcscape Interface                                   Windows Explorer Interface

Direcscape works with Windows
Direcscape provides a view of the current directory (folder) structure, the same directory structure used by Windows. Hence all Window’s functions and applications function as expected; for example, the Window’s Search, Backup, Recent Items List, File Sharing and Previous Versions (only Vista). And since, Direcscape helps organize your computer more efficiently, you’ll find yourself using Windows the way it is intended to be used.

Direcscape Directories

Direcscape performs common tasks more efficiently
Finding and moving folders are easier and quicker using Direcscape.

Finding Folders, using Direcscape           - and using Windows Explorer
Moving Folders, using Direcscape            - and using Windows Explorer

Direcscape contains features not found in other programs such as Status and Note Icons
Status Icons allow one to view the type of content in a folder without opening a folder. For example, the Note Status Icon indicates there is a note associated with a folder, while the Task Status Icons indicates there is a task associated with the directory.

I used to have a couple of programs from Odessa's ConceptDraw, from Giveawayoftheday, but I never really learned how to use them to my liking, so in the end I removed both of them. Easy comes, easy goes. Odessa ConceptDraw Office includes and unifies all their three ConceptDraw versions, PRO (€199), Mindmap (€169), and Project (€169). Their asking price for Office for a single user is a bargain... €415 ($650)... plus:

Add maintenance to my purchase:

for 1 year period  €85
for 2 years period  €150

all the minor and major updates, released during your maintenance period;
priority technical support form;

I know I can stay away!

- you are right, Jim, there is quite a distance between eDraw home planning and 3D HA, but I also think they are two different types of programs. 3D HA must be called a specialist on this subject, I think.

I didn't remember about Gliffy.com - maybe my eyes long ago noticed the word "online", which usually turns me off. Do you know if the free-version-user really gains access to all the same features as the premium-version-user, except of course for the listed differences in quantity / uploads / ads?? I think the advert-free alternative is dreadful expensive: $5 per month!! But the program really looks capable.

When we were youngsters back in the beginning of the seventys, and had to learn German, we constructed a language mixture of various Danish dialects, Norwegian, Swedish, English and German. It became our internal code language that only a few could understand. And it was great fun, yeah, it really was great fun - for a while. So I do understand how lolcode can be popular, if "lolcode" even is a accepted name for this new  dead  language (no-one speaks it). However, I am not sure I ever will bother to learn it myself. But thanks for the enlightment!
