well there's no harm in highlighting it ;)

...threatening to move
If the powers behind this have arranged it such that the consumer is likely to be stitched up sideways, then "threatening to move" could be infeasible or an empty threat. "Move where" exactly?

I see your relevant post above now - I hadn't realised it was discussed here. (I was coming from the Major ISPs to implement "Six strike" rule thread.)

good idea...

For people directly affected, threatening to move -and letting them know all about it, should get a good response here.

Super!

it looks to me deo that the stauration was turned up reasonably high overall and extra high for the twilight/sunset/sunsire scenes. (But I dont know - maybe they do have extra colourful light at those times.)

I've hardly used this app, but this info might help.
I have two catalogs, both were created a year before I upgraded to a windows 7 machine. They are both of (some of) the contents of a USB stick - I cant guarantee exactly under what OS they were made. Possibly Cathy was on the USB stick as well (it's now in my portable 'install' folder)

But the point is that I can read both of them no problem...

Win 7, 64 bit
UAC on highest level
Cathy in my portable 'install' folder on C drive

Find And Run Robot / Re: What are Automatic & Custom Destinations in FARR?
« Last post by tomos on October 12, 2012, 07:59 AM »
Thanks ewemoa.

I dont remember seeing them in FARR before, but this could be because the files I expected to be at the top of the list here are not showing (that's not relevant here beyond making me notice these files).

I changed some folder settings a while back, maybe it's because of that (show system files I guess).
Will change that setting back to 'hide' and see.
hmm, no immediate difference. Maybe they were always in FARR ...

'Automatic Destinations' & 'Custom Destinations'

they seem to be all in the roaming\MS\windows\recent folder.

Can anyone tell me what they are?
Thanks

Looks really nice.
I borrowed :) another screenshot from your linked page:

Is this intended for designing stuff that would actually be made, or is it for creating images (or both)?

Edit: goes well with my avatar :p

the PDF was great in this example to get the overview and avoid all those clicks.
But it would definitely be helpful to add the direct link to the post as well. (Only fair to the source as well.)

General Software Discussion / Re: Does the browser Opera suck?
« Last post by tomos on October 11, 2012, 04:06 AM »
any chance of a bigger pic there mahesh :P

IE9 fared very well (and the others very poorly) in tests blocking malware.

Early this week, I received information about a study by NSS Labs, which clearly showed that Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 was significantly better at blocking malware than any other browser tested. In fact, their study showed that no other tested browser even came close to challenging IE9.

I wouldnt recommend moving to FF15 anyway for performance reasons (see thread here somewhere), maybe #16 will be better.

Ha! Lets say everybody  -Eichhörnchen-   :P

A Guide for native-English-speakers to how to correctly make those öäü sounds:

For all of them, contract the neck muscles under your jaw till, (no matter what weight you are) you look like a starved socialite.

1) Project your head forwards and make a duck face for 'ü'
2) Pull chin backwards till you look like an idiot and say 'ä' in the manner of Mr.Bean
3) A fishface works well for 'ö'

Meanwhile, the native speakers dont twitch a muscle...

[I refuse to make a video of myself doing making any of these sounds :p]

(Also how do you scare somebody who is already dead by dressing as a skeleton? You can be killed but they can't. So how scare them?  Strange.)

true, it doesnt seem logical. I guess they thought of them differently in the past.

I like your Christmas idea

(according to the link) the whole point of halloween was to keep them away.
You've got to be scary enough at halloween to keep the dead away :)

Funny, because, as a native English speaker in Germany, speaking German with a sort of a reasonably good local accent,* it's the 'r's that identify me as a foreigner. They roll them in a way that just doesnt seem possible: I either dont roll, or, if I make an effort, I sound like I'm trying to hack something up. (They sound somewhere in between - quite discreet.)

* I've got to admit, I also have trouble with vowels with umlauts. If I can manage to avoid the umlauts and the 'r's, they think I'm a native from somewhere else, far way. Or maybe they're just being nice to me.

Edit/ I've heard squirrel pronounced 'squirdel' by native English speakers, so as Renegade says, where you're from is an important factor. (If german native speakers knew that, they mightnt be so shy with their pronunciation!)

taking you deadly seriously :P :D
this is what halloween was all about:

Halloween would be less popular if...

...that was when all your dead relatives came to visit.

see 'Pre-Christian influences' http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halloween

Yes, but dead relatives would probably have weird conversation and ideas.

This seems pretty nifty - Open Dyslexic fonts
The more work that's done in this area the better and it seems a good, logical approach.
That said, trying to read the font myself threatens to incur an almost instant headache. It reminds me of printed output from the very early days of DTP.
-cranioscopical (October 09, 2012, 04:13 PM)

have you seen the fonts linked by vrgrrl?
They actually look quite nice.

I dont know enough about economics to argue any side, but I know enough to ask questions.

Yeah, the current system is not convincing (and I wouldn't call myself a fan), but a lot (most?) of it's current problems are related to lack of sensible regulation of the financial institutions. Which started in the time of a 1980's US president that was a big supporter of Hayeks ideas. (I'm trying to keep this to economics rather than politics.) The 80's ended with a recession, I was there myself at the time but dont actually know why (people think) that recession happened.

IIUC, Germany (by extension, to a certain extent, the EU as well) is using at least some of the principles of Hayek/Austrian politics - one could claim that Germany's current relative success is related to that, but I would say not. (I can elaborate on that if anyone wants. It's obvious that the EU at any rate, is no success story.)
On a couple of occasions in the last two years, it seemed to be print money or collapse, for the EU. So, the ECB 'printed' money. It was all hoarded by the banks anyway, but I guess it helped on some sort of psychological level. [There's hope, we can print money! lol]

Sometimes I think no matter whatever money 'system' is in place, it's all grounded in belief anyway. This must not be a bad thing. But us humans do tend to be a bit all over the place (panic! buy! sell! bury! [money or head :p] etc. etc)
