It not only boils your eggs, but eats for you too. I am not using it either. Too much to learn.

Mini-Reviews by Members / Re: Tray Management Utilities Mini-Review

Grogy: You might want to try WinBoss. TrayIt and many such programs can only minimize each program to an icon in the system tray. WinBoss actually minimizes programs into a single icon in tray.

Here's my blog entry on it: http://www.sridharee...icon-in-system-tray/.

General Software Discussion / Re: Synergy

Welcome to the forum. Yes, Synergy is the only freeware in its class. Stardock has a commercial product for the same.

Dragging and dropping is not possible using Synergy AFAIK. You can cut/copy paste tho.

General Software Discussion / Looking for a RSS Feed Reader for Firefox
« Last post by sri on April 21, 2007, 03:08 AM »
Is there a Firefox add-on for RSS feeds reading that

1) has an option to set the feed refresh/fetch time

2) Notification upon new RSS items

It certainly has to do w/ the alias. Once I disabled the 'sapmats' alias, FARR is behaving the way it should.

I'll catch you in IRC in the evening. (am at work now)
558
Mouser,

I have a shortcut on my desktop named 'SAP Logon'. In FARR, it shows up when I type 'SAP', but the moment I actually type the exact name 'SAP Logon', it doesn't show up. Is this the expected behavior? Shouldn't it show when am typing the exact shortcut name?

Here is a screencast of what am talking about:

2 newbish questions:

1) When I search for a term and say 6 results show up, pressing the number doesn't go to it, but instead gets typed.

2) How do I open 5 pre-defined URLs in tabs in a tabbed browser, say Opera by typing a single alias?

another option would be to let your parents make the pages however they want and just use a simple find+replace script that you could run which would replace
<img src="
with
<img src="http://www.website.com/folder1/
that seems to me like it might be easiest and maybe best solution.

Does KeePass let me select a site (from a list) and do the following automatically (like RoboForm):

1) Opens the URL
2) Pastes login, password and any other field necessary (and which are captured once by it)
3) Hits Submit button.

I feel you are needlessly following a cumbersome process. You may want to take a look at EverNote again. Why install it on desktop and laptop and try to sync? Just run it from a USB stick or iPod and plug it wherever you work (assuming you don't work on laptop and desktop simultaneously).

Opera is the fastest browser according to my usage experience as well as a series of tests conducted by some web site (don't remember which).

Just go to any site in Opera, click on a link and hit 'z' key. Even before you blink your eye, you are back at the previous page. It's amazing!

I am using the free EverNote Portable Beta 2. I don't need the paid version since a) I don't have a tablet pen b) I don't need to synchronize w/ anything (that's the very reason why I downloaded the portable edition).

Another tip:
Q: I tried to use SmartSearch to find phone numbers and part numbers with dashes in them, but I get strange results. How can I get SmartSearch to work as I want?

A: You're having a problem because EverNote uses the Dash symbol (-) as a Minus (-) delimiter to mean (#AND NOT#). So, for example, if you enter CHICAGO-ATLANTA, EverNote will find all notes that have Chicago but don't have Atlanta.

There is a solution, however. Simply enter your phone number or part number in quotes. In fact, you only need to start with quote marks. Thus, to find L-1234, you would enter "L-1234 and to find 650-555-1234 you would enter "650-555-1234.

Post New Requests Here / IDEA: Auto Copy - Copy upon selection like in mIRC
« Last post by sri on April 14, 2007, 02:04 AM »
I use an add-on for Firefox called Auto Copy that copies content when it's highlighted (or just selected). It can be toggled by a button in the status bar.

I think this idea can be extended across all the programs system-wide. That is, a system tray icon has to be present and when you click on it, Auto copying should be activated. So you can just select any information (text or graphics or charts or anything) w/ the mouse and it's ready to be pasted. The idea is to reduce one single step, ctrl+C.

Is there any program which lets me do this already?

I tried EverNote today for the first time and all I can say is wow!

Here are some shortcuts and tips I am collecting on its usage:

  • To jump to the blank note, press Ctrl+N
  • To assign a category to a note, drag it with the mouse onto the note's toolbar.
  • ctrl+F: to focus the search box.
  • You can dbl clk on note's title in the Note List to change it.
  • When search brings up a note that is very long, F3 (jump down by highlighed words) / Shift-F3 (jump up)

This is a very simple .exe (no need to install) that will let you have multiple panes of windows explorer locations in a single window.

provides a Tab bar for Windows Explorer.
