Screenshot Captor / Re: Thumbnails not showing
« Last post by mouser on October 15, 2015, 03:15 PM »
it's files with dots in their name that don't appear, for example "Screenshot 15.4" or "Screen.shot 154" doesn't get detected, while "Screenshot 154" does.

bingo.

you figured it out.. as you've discovered, sc does not like screenshot files to have dots in their names.  in fact i thought SC actually prevented files from having that name replacing periods with underscores..

regardless, ill try to get this fixed asap -- hopefully this weekend, so that sc does not make this mistake.

That's an interesting clue..

I have a couple of questions:

First, is it the filename Screenshot (1,2) that makes it show, or just that it is a NEWLY found file in that directory?  That is, if you copy other image files into your screenshot folder, do you suddenly see them?
Second, any change if you restart SC?
Third, did you happen to use recently the new feature in SC, under View ->Toggle standalone screenshot window (i once saw this kind of behavior from doing that)?

UrlSnooper / Re: UrlSnooper - EAccessViolation
« Last post by mouser on October 15, 2015, 02:27 PM »
It's possible, but i'm guessing not.. something in the back of my mind is making me think we saw this problem before..

i'm assuming you are using the most recent version.

do you have a firewall that you could maybe add urlsnooper to some allowed list?

can you try it running as administrator?

email me ([email protected]) and i'll try to get you a debug build this weekend that we can use to figure out EXACTLY where things are going wrong.

UrlSnooper / Re: UrlSnooper - EAccessViolation
« Last post by mouser on October 15, 2015, 01:56 PM »
Hmm, and you are using the normal installer version not portable version right?

maybe try this:

uninstall url snooper, then delete the C:\Program Files x86\UrlSnooper directory, then reinstall.

if that still fails, try rebooting.

i think i just recently tested urlsnooper on win10 and it worked fine.

it may be some incompatible setting carried over from your old setup.. uninstall/reinstall does not remove old settings.

try this:
exit the app, then find the settings files -- these are normally in your documents\DonationCoder\UrlSnooper directory.

Recent article:

"Now a large study undertaken by the University of Exeter and University College London and published in the International Journal of Epidemiology suggests that the problem isn't sitting, it's not getting enough exercise, and that standing (which may be more comfortable for some people in any event) doesn't help.."

I'm afraid there is no way to enlarge the icons in the current version -- it's something people have requested -- and it's on my todo list, but currently, there is no option to resize them.

I do also see some text size oddities in you screenshot because you are using non-standard DPI settings in windows.  that is something i can try to address in a future release.

I will try to add an option to increase icon sizes, i just can't promise it right away.

Find And Run Robot / Re: Black tray menu
« Last post by mouser on October 14, 2015, 12:33 PM »
FARR is the only application with a problematic tray menu.

If it's only FARR with this problem, maybe the skin you have set for farr or custom colors?
check the "Advanced Visuals" option in far and uncheck any custom stuff.

Do try AdSense, but don't get your hopes up.

you've found a bug.

i'm not sure when it happened but i must have done something in a recent release of SC that broke the fine rotation function.

i will fix!

ps. for anyone who is wondering what this mysterious "fine rotation" function is -- it's a function you would use only when you are using SC to capture from your scanner -- it helps you straighten your scans.

Go for it -- it cannot hurt to try -- and will be a good learning experience!
Adsense is not going to turn you down.. those rules are for people running very questionable sites.

DonationCoder has always focued on free and donationware software but we have never been against the idea that software developers need to be able to find a way to make some money from their work.  There is nothing wrong with putting ads on your site, or exploring the idea of charging for your software (especially for the commercial use of it, etc.)!  Just let us know how your experiments go!

Living Room / Samorost 3 web adventure game announced

One of the very first web (flash) games mentioned on the DC forum was Samorost, a beautiful, charming, captivating, unusual, simple point-and-click adventure filled with strange alien creatures to interact with.

They've just announced Samorost 3 is coming out this year and it looks lovely:

Have you ever wondered WHY we have adopted the order of operator precedence that dictates multiplication and division happen before addition and subtraction?
There is a nice discussion of it here:

Like many things that we accept as "settled" -- there is an entire fascinating history and culture of debate, discovery, and disagreement underlying all of it.

Screenshot Captor / Re: Configure what happens after screenshotis saved
« Last post by mouser on October 10, 2015, 10:49 AM »
Hi bre, welcome!

I just want to take a capture, give it a name, save it and that's it. After I save it, the  folder pops up where it was saved. I don't want to see this folder.

SC is highly configurable and I guarantee you can get it working the way you want.  It sounds like you are telling SC to show the post-capture pop-up dialog, and then you are choosing to "Save Image As.." which lets you give the screenshot file whatever name you want and put it in any directory you want.  By default when using "Save As", Screenshot Captor will open the directory in your windows explorer.  To stop this from happening, disable the last option on the "Miscellaneous Tweaks" tab:
Screenshot - 10_10_2015 , 10_44_51 AM.png

Having said that, many of us prefer a *more* streamlined approach, by not using the "Save As" dialog at all (the Save As option is meant more for those rare occasions when you want to save the screenshot in a different-than-usual directory).

Remember that by default Screenshot Captor ALWAYS saves the screenshots you take.

So you can turn off the post-capture dialog completely, in which case every screenshot you take will be given a unique name and saved in the default screenshot directory, and you'll never be prompted at all (you can customize the way screenshots are named in the options).  This is by far the most efficient way to take lots of screenshots.

Or if you prefer to give each screenshot a custom name as you take it, you can stay with the post-capture dialog and just fill in a custom name in the "Overide filename" edit and then chose "Save image but hide" (alt-e).

In other words -- if what you really want is to quickly save screenshots i'm suggesting you might stop using the "Save As" button completely.
