General Software Discussion / See if your singing is on pitch!
« Last post by Curt on September 11, 2008, 03:14 PM »
I like to sing, but not everybody would want me to do so! You of course have a much better voice, but maybe it is just a little unschooled or untrained? This program from CantOvation will let you see if your singing is on pitch!

http://www.singandsee.com/
Sing & SeeTM
- Singing Software for real-time visual feedback of the voice in vocal training

Sing & See is the singing training software that teachers and singers all over the world are now using to improve their learning experience. It shows the singer and teacher visual displays that represent the voice - pitch, loudness, and timbre. This direct visual feedback enhances the spoken feedback that teachers give their students, and allows singers to see patterns in their voices that they might otherwise miss out on hearing.

Sing & See enables you to actually see your voice on the computer screen - as you sing. The singing software contains sophisticated algorithms that analyse your voice to work out what pitch you're singing. It is then displayed on the computer screen in easy-to-understand displays.

Sing & See converts sung sound into visual on-screen information about pitch, loudness, and timbre - you sing, and you see how you are singing. It is voice training at its best.

See some fine, instructive videos  on the company's homepage:

S&S_Mac.gif

Versions for Win or for Mac (including "CrossOver"), but Mac versions only runs on Intel Macs.
I was somewhat confused by the prices, so remember to check yourself, but apparently they are:
Licenses: Student from €30 to $59, Pro from €66.75 to $139, Teacher's Pack $219.
No Mac version for students because CrossOver itself usually is $59
NOTE: For a very short time you can get Sing & See for  a great 25% discount! This special introductory discount is only available until 14th Sep, 2008, after which you will have to pay the normal retail price.

Sing & See Professional is now available for download at a special price of €89 only €66.75 Euro. CD-ROM + €7.00

Note: We only recommend the more expensive versions for singers who are advanced and either have a teacher or have already had extensive vocal training in how the voice works. Otherwise you're not going to get the full benefit and you might as well get the cheaper Student version. You can always upgrade later on when you're really ready for it.

Again: watch the fine videos, they will explain a lot better.

A friend of mine is living next building and convinced me to get a cell/mobile phone, saying it was very important for both her and me. The first couple of months she would text message me day and night about this and that. Even if we, separated in distance by a hundred feet, were watching the same game transmitted on TV, she would send comments all along. After two years I don't remember having received a single important message. From anyone.

« Last post by Curt on September 09, 2008, 07:37 PM »
Yep it has its issues

- "issues"?? It is totally not ready for public use! I installed it and did not click "manage my fonts". Seconds later it was moving my fonts to locations named All Users\My Documents\0 , All Users\My Documents\2 , All Users\My Documents\A , All Users\My Documents\B , etcetera, and it did not move them back when uninstalled. Hrmff!

In my opinion there are two things a font manager must do:
- It must support at least TrueType and OpenType fonts (some font managers fail)
- It must be stable (don't use Beta software)

I have done very little, concerning frames, due to my change of age yesterday, but I guess I will have to get back to earth from now. The first step might be to investigate some of the frames CleverCat have been so kind to mail me, so I may understand more about the object. Of course I would also like to test idImager in order to see if there are any noticeable differences, concerning frames. As you said, they use the same engine, but  regarding frames  I would like to know if idImager is offering some valuable extras, having an in-built editor, other than idFramer does.

Thanks, *Cat. For the moment I have Publisher because it is part of my Office 2007 Ultimate TRIAL, but I am not going to keep the package if my financial situation doesn't change for better within the next couple of days! Besides, I am not aware that Microsoft cared to update Publisher, so I would say that the program itself is no reason for updating my Office 2003 Standard (which doesn't include Publisher).

Still waiting for you, CleverCat, to show some full sized framed pics...  ;)

I was lucky to get Advanced Font Viewer 4.42 for free from Givewayoftheday.
I have absolutely no idea if it even is among The Best, but it suites me. However, the new version 5 is $97, which is absurd. There surely must be something both better & cheaper!

Grorgy was (of course) close! I have had Paint.NET, but it is too slow on my alreday slow PC, making the combination extremely slow. I won't be trying it again until I have a new mean lean power plant.

Dormouse is right on the spot. The frame I would create for A is not the one I would want to use for B or C, etcetera, making the total amount of used/consumed time huge.

The principles used in idFramer are ingenious, regarding the available frames and the way you can choose what to add:

idF.gif

I don't yet have any idea about how to add new frames to idFramer, using the same procedures as shown in the picture, but I am really hoping it will be possible in a easy way. Then this would be my next step. The next exciting part of the race... My problem right here and now is that I have not yet collected any frames, so I am in the dark when it comes to understanding what frames really are! What ARE we talking about?

Yes, Darwin.   8) And I have also considered to purchase a new computer, and the entire Adobe line, and a new Rolls Royce...

When I typed the above post I was thinking that I have yet a program can do frames, but I couldn't right away remember which one. Now I remember that Ashampoo Photo Commander 6 also do frames. Not many, some 2 x 30, but they are there. A few of them are all right to use, but maybe only a few. It is shareware (why is it shareware?), and I did paid for it long ago. However, regarding the number of frames being "few": a few out of a few is very few, isn't it. So I guess its back to the race "And here comes shareware2, it is almost catching up with shareware1! The race is getting really close. And what is now this: From the outer track shareware3 is trying to take over! What will be the end of this exciting race? Stay tuned!"

A simple tool with a framing option in the "batch conversion" tab  and with very nice collage options on it's "page" tab is Photoscape.
The best freeware version I so far have found is the fine PhotoScape, but the number of different frames it can offer  is not enough for me; the frames are there, all right, but there are too few, and they are too simple, I think.

Being free/donation-ware, I think PhotoScape is mighty fine. Only, it is not enough for me. Seen from my end of the line  the closing of the race is between shareware, shareware, and shareware!  :(

http://www.fastvideoindexer.com/

I think Fast Video Indexer can do what you want:

(...) By default the first video frame will be extracted one minute into the video and then another frame will be extracted every three minute. If you are working with videos that are shorter than 60 seconds one frame will still be extracted but from the middle of the video. (...)

However, it is $35

- but I don't know how to make it create unfiltered images. Maybe the program should be purchased from somewhere in order to remove restrictions? The program comes without any "buy" link or "register" button.

Anyway:
it doesn't do what mediaguy asked for. It is a common screenshooter image-from-video extracter, but I must admit it is both fast and easy to use, and I expect it to give a nice result if the filter can be removed.

Thanks, Darwin, for reminding me about PhotoFiltre. I have the free version, but was never tempted by it to purchase the Pro version, because I don't know if 'outside-frames' is an option in the Pro, which it is not in the free.

Regarding PaintShop Pro: I got angry with the company because of - and this is something I know YOU can relate to, Darwin - because of their currency conversion rates! I know some other companies are a lot worse, but I just got pi***d. But come a sale, I might forget about it.

And what goes for ScreenShot Captor. Well... I have it, and I know it is tremendous capable, because I have tried the various versions so many times - I felt I had to, you know, in order to be part of the gang - but the truth is that I don't like it. Too many difficult questions to answer or hotkeys to remember, or I don't know. Just looking at the GUI makes me tired.

Thanks, hamradio, I tried FrameFun once again, but didn't get to understand how to use it this time either. I managed all right to create SOME frames, but never the frame I wanted to.

--
Really fine review, Brett!
This is quite some frame, you have added. I don't have much experience in this field, a week or so, but I have studied thousands of images, and I cannot recall I ever before have noticed an added frame including / repeating the neighbourhood like this:

001.jpg  002.jpg

- this is most interesting, and I surely will try out Helicon Filter. However, as I understand the differences between Free, Home, and Pro, there are quite some restrictions in the frame creating part of the freeware version. And I am not too sure I can afford the Home or Pro versions, at this side of New Year.

Thanks!

Removing Starter 2006 package helped, the visible file type in Explorer changed into the proper "JPG-File", but the .jpg icon was the same as Notebook's!, and when I looked in Folder Options > File Types, there was no ".jpg" listed at all!! I clicked "Change", and suddenly everything was in order again!!! Hmm... strange, but What the heck, now it is okay. Thanks for reading, and Sorry for taking up your time!!!!

Edited:
I forgot to make it clear that I am still missing the Image Dimensions.

Hmm... I now realize that this file type, Microsoft Digital Image Document, merely comes from MS Digital Image Starter 2006 - which I had forgotten about. I will start by removing that program, reinstall Xentient, and maybe also install another editor, and then we will see.

General Software Discussion / Re: HowTo get back 'Image Dimensions' in Explorer?

 :-[  :(  >:(

Today I removed PhotoPerfect ["PP"], and a variant of the same problem happened. This time it is the very File Type that is wrong. When PP was removed the .JPG images' thumbnails (from Xentient) immediately changed to a camera, and the listed .JPG file type all changed into "Microsoft Digital Image Document"!

The fixes from Phil will change the "Percieved Type" but not the "File Type".

Please, what to do now?  :tellme:

Edited:
I should clarify that the extension still is .JPG

I use Akelpad renamed to notepad. All you have to do is copy it to the dllcache directory first and you should have no problems.

- I actually did use AkelPad for at least half a year.
Now I are merely using the small GetDiz (.txt, .diz, .nfo), and I like it :-)

I don't think the name ShellLess is about the file manager, but the company's name.
This way > ShellLess® Explorer < may be a less confusing name. But I really don't know.
Anyway; I missed Quizo too much, so I have already moved back to XP's Explorer.
