Ok so I went and tried to reproduce this, but failed to.
My latest changes (which should already be in the version you have) should have made SC work fine with files with periods (.) in their filenames.

Can you try the latest beta (v4.14) and let me know if the problem remains?

If the problem does remain, can you shed any more light on the nature of the issue -- because contrary to my original comments, SC is doing fine with files with periods in the name here.

You should be able to see all images even without being logged in.
But the error about "[You are not allowed to view attachments ]" sometimes gets displayed in weird situations.

Can you clarify where/when you are seeing that error?

changing "Temporary DB file location" to Database "temp" sub-directory seems to have solved all problems.

great to know.  that does suggest it's some sort of file access problem -- either related to a security program or a built-in windows 10 restriction.
I wonder if i should make that setting the default.

so now that it's working again, if you had old clips you want back you should be able to exit CHS, and restore your old Database directory and restart.

Was CHS working for you before all this? Any idea what could have happened that made this start happening?
If you are seeing that error after you removed all database files, it's hard to see how it just started happening out of nowhere when it was previously working..

What security software are you running? Can you try turning it off or adding an exception for CHS -- it's almost sounding like the problem is a security program blocking proper access to database files, something that we have seen before.
The other related thing to try, assuming you can get into CHS options is on the Tweaks tab, changing the "Temporary DB file location" and restarting.

I just woke up so my brain is not functioning perfectly yet, but let's start with the basics:

• Exit CHS.
• Find your CHS database folder -- by default this will be under documents\DonationCoder\ClipboardHelpAndSpell\Database
• Backup this folder (zip it and copy it somewhere, etc), so that we can try to recover it later.
• Then delete the contents (or move contents) of the folder, so that it is empty.
• Restart CHS.

See if that lets CHS resume working on an empty clip database.  Assuming so we can then try to figure out what went wrong and try to get your database back next.

I just wanted to point out that i think its a terrible idea for software to do bad things to a user's computer or files if it suspects that it has been pirated.
Now in this case, it seems the author is just making his software malfunction, in ways that wouldn't cause loss of work, so i don't have a problem with it.

that might be a good clue -- it sounds like maybe i just overlooked some code trying to write to the non-existent troubleshooting log.

People who have read my posts over the years know that i have major issues with google and how they bully their way around.  But this is one case where I don't it's a big deal and where there was no viable alternative.  If you are going to offer people the ability to pay to opt-out of ads, you can't very well have individual video channels showing ads anyway.

The one thing google could/should do is guarantee video channel creators that the money they will get from opt-out subscribers will be no less than what they would have received before the new option.  That would seem to be a major win-win for everyone.

As an aside -- $10/month to remove ads? That's a ton of money to expect people to cough up.  Too rich for my blood by far.  I wonder if they are pricing it that high because they really don't want many people to take advantage of it...

Formatting will be stripped from all items in the quick paste menu -- it's only the most recent clip that keeps its formatting because windows manages that if you use Ctrl+V to paste it.  You can use hotkey as Tomos said to paste last clip as plaintext.

1) Sorting - how does it work.  I've added the 'Ordering' column to my group, checked that the 'Custom Menu Sorting SQL' is set (to the default) but sorting does not work for me.

can you elaborate? it sounds like you are doing it right?

you show the ordering column, and then you fill in manually values of clips for that column to change the sorting order.

that file will survive upgrades.
actually if my memory is correct what you will find in the SC program files directory is ConfigDirDefault.ini, so you should rename that to ConfigDir.ini and then edit it.
either way, it won't be overridden on update/reinstall.
