I did try AceMacro before I posted, and I really don't like it - I don't think the author ever tried to finish it. My major problem with it is that I can't make it understand that the mouse not is to be be moved from somewhere (a) to somewhere else (b), but should stay at a. Of course the problem could be me and not the program, but the result is the same, isn't it. Anyway, I also tried MacroExpress, but it is far too complicated for me. I will have to study at uni before I can figure out how to handle such an expert. And in general all experts are too complicated for me, and the uni won't have me!

I need a VERY simple 'auto-clicker'.

Coding Snacks / IDEA: micro macro
« Last post by Curt on October 10, 2008, 03:00 PM »
I need to record and play a macro, but all the programs I have found (many!) can do way too much for my need, and will confuse me more, than help me. I only need this one 'Windows Media Player 11' "next >"-button to be clicked every twentieth second for maybe half a day. That's all. Like a micro-"ClickOff"

Any ideas to make my little idea grow a lot more useful?

- I have never tried this many images in one go, so I didn't know. My fav folder contains 6,700 images, which causes no problem. User should remember to save gallery, so IC can re-use the result the next time - user should not just create a new gallery each time. Edited: Also, users comparing > 60k images should have a lot of RAM, shouldn't they.

If you had the choice of having any question answered before you died what would it be?

Are logic and religion no longer science?

Religion is not science

- no, religion is usually not science. Here I used the word religion instead of theology, because that was the word used by the moderator, but this way I made it all unclear. Sorry! The science theology is most certainly open to any degree of exploration (and interpretation), I should think. The problem is that the scientist have to actually practice the theology, if s/he will test if it is valid. You cannot have a computer tell you the result, but will have to test & see for yourself WITH yourself! And that is usually not too easy without already believing, because theology includes all of your very life.

Living Room / Re: What Sports Do You Participate In?
« Last post by Curt on October 08, 2008, 01:19 PM »
When I was six years of age my big brother forced me to join him in the judo & jiu jitsu club. Later on he expanded it to this new thing in Denmark: karate. After some years I was lucky to get hit by rupture, and was free to stay at home. I might have learned to love these sports if anyone had ever care to ASK me if I actually wanted to go! He also assumed that I would like to learn how to shoot. I was maybe like 8 years old when I owned my first small caliber riffle, and maybe 12 when I had free private access to his guns. But again, I was never asked.

I started biking a lot, and as a young adult I played a little badminton and volleyball. I didn't join any organisation at the time but kept these sports as occasional hobbies for the fun of it. I was a soldier for many years, so I never felt any need for sports... When I stopped soldiering, my body wouldn't hear about athletic sports, so I took up shooting various types of pistols, guns, and riffles, and easily won a couple of minor competitions. But I didn't feel any joy doing it (too many memories?), so I stopped all together.

Wiffle-Ball  http://www.wiffle.com/welcome.htm
I don't have a choice. I grew up in the town where it was invented. ;D

Thanks for telling about this sport, 40hz

My situation today is a little similar, but only a little. Handball was invented in Denmark (and refined in Germany, for tournaments), and my only activity today, being old, fat, and partly disabled, is to watch handball :-*

If a voice shouted down at me as I lay on my deathbed "what do you want to know?" I'd be stupid enough to answer "who do I have to ask?"

By far the most intelligent response so far in this thread.

<note as moderator> Please let's be careful not to let this go into the field of religion </note as moderator>

Are logic and religion no longer science? Yes, dangerous science, but science anyway.

I have spent the last fifteen years of my life asking all sorts of impossible questions, and believe I have had some of them rightfully answered - not by fools like Richard Dawkin, but by that heavenly voice that turned out not to be a thunder in the storm but a whisper in the breeze - but at the end of day (life), the question is not from me, but to me: What did you do?

- sorry, I was ambiguous, because I don't 'voice' I forgot this is a major part of Skype. When I connect to a friend on Skype, I can call out the entire conversation we have TYPED from day one. My microphone has never been used on Skype, so I am not really sure how audible conversations are being handled by Skype.

General Software Discussion / Re: skype... how secure is it?
« Last post by Curt on October 08, 2008, 04:47 AM »
One weakness of Skype may be that the entire conversation is kept on Skype's servers. This feature is of course a strength, when you want to remind yourself of what was said or send, but in the worst case it may turn out to be a weakness if the server falls into in the hands of the wrong Big Brother. And because Skype now is owned by some commercial company, rather than by the guys who invented it, you may feel less certain about any future change of policy.

All this is of course not a problem of Skype's alone, but a problem in general.

I use Skype.  ;)

- Thanks for the tip, munthealb. However, I like to have AIMP2 work as discrete as can be, so I don't want to first open the main window. I want a button in the visible mini player.

Screenshot from PS Tray Factory and a WinAmp plugin:

but no such easy button in AIMP2:

- there is plenty with room for the button, I would say.

I wonder why I didn't see this thread the first time it was around? Never mind; I didn't. I have been using Image Comparer for a year or so, and I like it a lot, and believe it fulfils ALL of the requested features. In fact it is hard for me to imagine anyone would want more features! Okay okay, we all want more features, but,  you know what I mean: Image Comparer is REALLY well equipped...

$35 desktop version: http://www.bolidesof...m/imagecomparer.html
$149 command line version: http://www.bolidesof...rer/commandline.html

Get a free Image Comparer™ license. Just find any bugs or any mistakes in grammar, spelling, or style in this site or in the software's user interface.

General Software Discussion / Re: What's your music player of choice?
« Last post by Curt on October 06, 2008, 11:39 AM »
I have four music players of choice.

AIMP2, WinAmp 5.5 Pro, WMP 11, and RealPlayer 11 Plus - in this order.

For background playing, I prefer AIMP2. It will start playing when I start my XP; no questions asked, it will just hide and PLAY :-)  But I tend to mass-download music files, and for this reason I very often come across music that I don't want to hear again. And this is where AIMP2 is a disappointment to me; there is no "delete file" button. WinAmp 5.5 Pro does have such a (plugin) button (it has ALL sorts of features), but it won't start playing in the same discrete way AIMP2 does (I think it should be able to (?), but in my setup it won't).

Windows Media Player 11 and RealPlayer 11 Plus are both nice and easy, and quite capable, but also have some proprietary issues. If I record a CD, I can later realize that it was already recorded by "the other", but I wasn't warned.

General Software Discussion / Is Liuxz Sync Now! Beyond Sync?
« Last post by Curt on October 06, 2008, 09:45 AM »
I am not fully inclined to trust this company, because of their tactics at GAOTD 'today' - they offer their $30 Standard version, but the praise is all taken from the $50 Pro version:

Features:

    * Never lose your emails, photos, MP3s, documents, etc. Sync Now! combines bulletproof reliability with an extremely easy to use interface to compare, synchronize, and backup your emails, contacts, photos, iTunes, MP3s, and other important files to local directory/USB disk/Network drive/laptops…etc
    * Sync your files in Realtime! The realtime sync is a newly designed feature in Sync Now! It’s fast and very reliable. Your can see your files are being synced as soon as you save them!
    * Make sure your files were synchronized 100% successfully by our unique Byte to byte verification
    * Automation. Sync Now! has an easy to use build-in scheduler. You set it and forget it, just focus on your own jobs. Your financial documents, work files, emails, contacts, photos, MP3s, and other data will be synchronized and backed-up automatically. You can also use your favorite scheduler to automate the sync.
    * Intuitive side by side folder comparison.

In reality:

NO real-time synch
NO task-planner
NO improved copy-algorithm for big files
NO run as service
Only a limited number of files (10.000) can be synchronized

On top of this, their site and screenshots are almost identical to those of BeyondSync !??
- with Sync Now! as the assumed top of the line, as it is priced much higher.

Suddenly I am not too sure what to think of BeyondSync.  :-\

Yes, Curt! That should be a blazing machine! Are you going to be running 32-bit or 64-bit Vista Home Premium? Hope it's 64-bit so you can use all 4 gigs of RAM. ...

The young salesman looked at me with wonder in his eyes: "64-bit?, yeah, I've heard about it. We sell so and so many pre-installed computers a year, but not once was it with 64-bit." It is hard to beat their prices, but you ("you") can easily beat their knowledge and their supply.

I will have to demonstrate how little if anything at all I understand about this subject: Are you telling me that every modern PC can run 64-bit??? I thought (imagined) there were 32-bit machines and 64-bit machines, the hardware, and to fit this technique you did not had any choice regarding the bit numbers of the Operating System, the software.

You can bet that I did ask. Repeatedly. Their shop is merely one out of many shops within a concern - they don't have it, and they don't care to get it.

I did TRY to consider 64-bit, but realized that I knew too little about the subject to understand what would become of my favourite 32-bit program - so 32-bit it is. I hope the 7777 dkr is a fine (=low) price, but the salesman knew even less about computers than me, though he would be pleased to also offer me a washing machine, of which we also both knew next to nothing...

I never before took interest in the 32 vs 64 -bit situation. It is however not too late to return the package and get a 64-bit instead, but it would take for me to first understand if I then will loose all of my 32-bit programs?
