Basically, the slider goes 1,2,9, etc... so I tried to put in 5 and it wouldn't work.  Then tried 5.00 and no dice either.  Then I tried to tab out of the field after setting it... but that didn't work either.  I am using ABP, but have ghacks whitelisted, and the little badge has no numbers indicating blockage, but I'll completely disable it and let you know.

No, and I tried all sorts of combinations of changing focus, etc.  I was surprised when I got to paypal and it still said $1.

The only thing I'll say is that the slider to set your donation amount doesn't work.  It has a box to put your amount in... but it's not accepted.  And the slider is no where near granular enough.  Sent an e-mail so I can donate once its fixed.

Ok... still preparing; one final question.  I know it was that the alternate windows partition had to be marked as inactive on boot, i.e. you can't have two partitions with windows active.

Is that still the case?  Just wanted to know if I needed to move my documents to a different directory for them to be accessible across versions.

I don't think that he was posting to dissuade you- he was posting to give you ideas.  That's how the site works.  A lot of requests have been solved by the alternative routes, so don't take offense when someone attempts to help you perhaps not in the way that you were thinking.

That does explain a lot.  However, sometimes it's better to take the high road.  And the members here definitely appreciate when a developer does in the face of aggression towards them.  We've been in the middle of some pretty nasty developer slap-fights, so that's the reason for the response.  Just as I was advising the members here that responses make a difference in the paths of communication both now and in the future, I'd caution you with the same words, for many didn't know about it (myself included) and many did take exception.

Food for thought.

That's pretty standard marketing speak.  That said, that's my opinion, and you have yours.  The ability to let the developer know about these things is one of the cool things with interacting with them.  But the method of interaction and the tone of it will have further implications- positive and negative, so lets keep that in mind is my request.

I would personally ask that people are careful with statements like this.  Trying to get discounts for the community, one of the selling points is the ability to reach many potential customers.  Statements like this make it harder than it already is to secure discounts.  Civility and welcome whenever anyone comes to the forums would seem to make the community more welcoming, and the attraction of helping the community much more inviting.  And while DonL has not been active in the everyday community, he has been an active supporter.  Piling on doesn't seem to be in the vein of this community, IMO.

While I do think it could have been phrased a bit better, i.e. If you are a Directory Opus user, give XYExplorer a try and take the switch test, or something along those lines, I don't see anything inherently wrong or in poor taste with the offer.

There was a feature added to warn you when you're about to post to an old topic.  That feature only checks the current page.  So even if the thread is still active, but you're on a page that's not the last page, you get that warning.

Just annoying, but ... yeah, annoying.

i'd suggest you buy a new hard drive, do a fresh install of 64 bit on that.
with a cheap $30 usb dock you will be able to access your old documents and data on the old hard drive whenever you want, and revert back completely if you have issues.

Well, I actually already have an extra 2TB drive in the machine... so my idea was to install to that one, but let windows handle the dual booting.  I'd been keeping an eye on that drive b/c I'd had problems before, so don't really have anything on it currently... and it's not had any issues, so a good test of the drive and controller, and a good option that keeps my work drive intact.

As mentioned above, I have to keep working during this, so reinstalling everything on the fly isn't an option.

So when you say you ended up with a fresh install of 64-bit; on the same partition?  The reason I'm wondering is that I need to be able to work through this, so don't have the time to reinstall from scratch without having my other to fall back on, so a 'good backup' wouldn't mitigate this risk.  Thanks for the responses- just wondering if this is possible or if I have to wait for my next upgrade to correct my error.

It does, and makes a lot of sense even for non-autistic children. I've done the same with my kids, but didn't have the catalog aspect.  That's why i asked about the LAMP aspect; I have te start of my solution to build out- but its a desktop application
