try using double quotes to surround the commandline.

I've decided to write up a little paper on the project, if for no other reason than to get it out of my system and remember the important parts so i can come back to it when i find someone willing to do the hardware -- and i guess i'll open source the code while i'm at it.  I'll upload both when i get a first draft of the paper done.

I'm still interested in matching up with someone who might be interested in creating the hardware (maybe as an advanced school project?).

1) will there be the ability to comment on/below articles?
absolutely.

2) will wiki-type pages be a possibility?
yes yes yes.

1) Sites with both a blog and a forum need to be careful about 'diluting' user content into blog comments and forum replies
definitely an issue we have to figure out.

one of the nice things about the new cms is that on cms pages we now have a sidebar showing recent posts on the FORUM that are related to that page. So software pages now show the most recent posts about the program from the forum section for that program.

Screenshot Captor / Re: Tray Contextmen appears offset

I'm thinking I might try a complete uninstall and reinstall with completely fresh settings?  That sounds like work to me, though.

no point.

if you really want to test, you could download the PORTABLE version of sc, and just unzip that in a folder somewhere and run that version instead of your main installed one, and confirm the problem still happens with the portable version.

I can only tell you that resetting options within Screenshot Captor will not fix this.  Let me check to see if i did anything that might cause this.

This strikes me as a general request that could really be useful for people..

A sortable/filterable list of all downloads made through a web browser, with date, url, page title, downloaded file name, downloaded file thumbnail, (maybe web page thumbnail).

I'll bet a lot of us would have use for such a thing to help remind us where we found something.  Being able to sort/filter by website would help narrow the list down, as poster requests.

Would probably be more intuitive to add that option to the right-click context menu for the left preview pane on the main window in my opinion.
you have a point, i may try to add it.

I should have said.. the "Explore at screenshot directory" also in the GoTo main menu, as well as tray menu.

All good questions.

As long as you are saving in PNG format (which is default), the screenshots are lossless and perfect quality.
The only reason your screenshots may (temporarily) look blurry from WITHIN screenshot captor is if they are zoomed smaller to fit in the winodw.  You can either set the zoom to 100% (see top right checkboxes), or you can also change the zoom algorithm to make shrunk images look a bit clearer.  If you double click an image in sidebar you should see that the actual image file is not blurry.

As to your second question, choose the "Explore at screenshot directory" to open file explorer at current screenshot directory.
EDIT: This is in both the tray menu and under the GOTO main menu.

you weren't a dumbass at all -- i just asked you to post so others would know that the github download still worked.

Original download is offline, but akx was nice enough to host the source code and precompiled version at github:

I clearly need help with the hardware design and manufacturer.. any engineers here willing to give it a try?

Let me summarize the basic kinds of approaches we've discussed:

  • Camera on bottom looking up, with a tumbling/rolling container above. Notes: We don't know how far away the cheap raspberry pi camera will have to be to focus. We don't know how hard it will be to ignore background when facing up and looking at the sky (as opposed to looking down on a single color base).  There needs to be an easy way to insert and remove dice.
  • Camera above a container that spins to tumble (think a die bouncing on a roulette wheel).
  • Camera above a container that is "tapped" in different places from below to bounce die around.

Any other options?

To summarize the technical goals:

  • Good lighting so the camera doesn't see shadows, and has a predictable background behind dice.
  • Simple to ensure reliability with tens of thousands of die rolls.
  • Reasonably cheap/easy to build (i suppose this is least of our concerns).
  • Easy to add/remove dice.

ah well, i've been meaning to KILL that paperclip icon -- it's used automatically now on a post with an attachment, and i think that may be a bit confusing.

I am missing it on the "thread has an attachment" icon for example.

i know it seems like i should know this stuff back and forth, but i could do with a little more hand holding -- by telling me the complete list of icons i should add it to -- maybe a url & screenshot showing me where? my brain is just on dice lately :)

What happens if you lie to it and tell it the wrong # of die faces?  Glad you asked.

Mistakenly telling it there are 5 unique die faces (2s and 3s look like they are similar enough):

Mistakenly telling it there are 7 unique die faces (hey those two 1s look like different faces):

A screenshot showing results of a very quick test of unsupervised clustering.

In this case the system took 17 photos and was told that it was taking a picture of a 6 sided die. It then grouped the 17 photos into 6 clusters most similar to each other.
(There was no stage of training telling it what each side of the die looks like).

This gives you a sense of how the procedure would work for testing a die for fairness.  User would insert a die and specify how many unique faces the die has (N).  The system would then start rolling the die taking photos, eventually clustering the images into N clusters, and then computing statistics on the frequency and patterns of seeing cluster.

Is there a way in FARR to bring a browser tab up to the foreground if it's already open, OR open the url if it isn't?
im afraid not -- that's up to the web browser.
so unless you can find a webbrowser with that option (or commanline option in a particular browser), you're out of luck.
4949
See my question above.
4950
It's possible that the option does not work..

But let me ask, when you say it doesnt't work for you, can you elaborate? Does the program start when you boot up now, but capturing doesn't begin, or does it not start up at all?
Anyone else test this?
