General Software Discussion / Re: Duplicate Finder 2009

- you may think that now I am contradicting myself, but I am in no way a fan of Ashisoft - I like the program, Duplicate Finder 2009, not the company. As a matter of fact, I wrote the owner&author half a year ago and yelled at him that he did not respect his own product!

I agree that there has been some very less-than-fine tactics; I just wanted all to differ between father and son, so to speak!

- the link will trigger some pop-up advert of a kind:

In general it is a very good idea to TEST a program before spelling out any conclusions about it. DF2009 is far more advanced than any previous version, and gives a much better result. You may dislike it for any or for no reason, but Duplicate Finder 2009 is among the very best of the kind.

Any company that releases the same program in updated form with a new name, but isn't eligible for upgrade pricing, because its "a new program" or name rather! is shady enough to not be worth a download.

You may think the way you did, but you really shouldn't have said it out loud, at least not the way you did it, implying all sorts of things, without knowing.

Besides, comparing Clonespy with DF2009 is like comparing apples and pears, they are not the same, for the very simply reason that Clonespy doesn't read tags.

- inside my little head I answered and thanked you long ago, but now I realize that I wrote nothing! Sorry!! :-[

Yes, of course I've tried it, and it works fine.

There are some behaviours that I don't fully understand, when I have a window of a kind open, but for the time being I have simply minimized all windows before I press the hotkey and only then maximize the IrfanView window, to see where the center is. Within this frame, ShowScreenCenter works just perfect.

Thanks, lanux

Written on April 7, 2008

onOne Software, Inc., announces today the availability of its Liquid Resize product preview. Available for immediate download at http://www.ononesoft...are.com/liquidresize, onOne Software's new Liquid Resize software is a ground-breaking way to resize images using a technique known as "seam carving" to reduce the distortion that typically occurs when manipulating the aspect ratio of an image.

"Since acquiring Liquid Resize earlier this year, our engineering team has been hard at work developing what will become a new Photoshop® plug-in for photographers and graphic artists," said Craig Keudell, president of onOne Software. "We're looking forward to hearing what our customers have to say about this new image resizing tool that allows users to maintain the original aspect ratio of a digital image when they resize or adjust the composition of their images."

- however:

The product preview for Liquid Resize, the "content aware" image resizing application for Mac OS X and Windows is no longer available. We had previously intended to have released a final version of Liquid Resize as a Photoshop plugin by this time, however we have not been able to improve the speed and quality of Liquid Resize to the high quality standards that we hold ourselves to and those that our users have come to expect and deserve. At this time, there is no published release date for an updated preview or final release of Liquid Resize.
-onOne Software

You can still get the last version that I know of, 0.67, from http://www.crystalxp...-resize-software.htm (2.05MB Zip).

The tech support / bug fix response time is more than just excellent - it is actually better than anything I ever imagined from any company.

- Yes, the support and the update speed is fantastic. But for a slow learner like me LSB is actually updated TOO OFTEN!!! I can simply not cope with such speed. Well before I have learned how to use it, it is updated with even more features. I'll have to credit the author that he has become much more aware over time that a good help section is important, but still I would like him to hire a pedagogue to redo the GUI - LSB can do a lot of things, but I am having serious troubles understanding how!

Coming up on BitsDuJour is a PDF editor called e-PDF: http://www.bitsdujou....com/software/e-pdf/

- I don't think it can edit the pdf's original text, only add new text.

Of course I had to try out e-pdf. I cannot remember why I didn't keep it, but I didn't. What I wanted to tell, now, is, that together with e-pdf came this little info box, basic rules, which might explain certain pdf editing problems, in general:

Post New Requests Here / [SOLVED] Show Center of monitor screen
« Last post by Curt on June 05, 2009, 11:58 AM »
Solved (https://github.com/l.../releases/tag/v3.1.5)
Original text:

Editing a wallpaper photo, I need this little dot to be situated at the very center of the finished photo = the center of the screen. So I fumble around with my calculator and papers, but it would be so much faster if I could only press a hotkey and up comes some crossmark of a kind, illuminating the exact place at once. Then I could maybe hit the same hotkey again, and the crossmark disappears. Or how it should be done.

It could very well look just like Skrommel's MouseMark, or whatever 'you', dear coder, will like it to.

Any takers?

Just an example:

UrlSnooper / Re: very confused: downloading youtube with urlsnooper?
« Last post by Curt on June 02, 2009, 02:20 AM »
... does not get spyware infections. This has been one of the crappiest applications I have seen for a while.

1-Click YouTube Batch Downloader from eurekr.com may be a little bad but certainly not all bad. It is probably not very well written, and it really is disappointing with this new TubeGotChi forum, but that can sometimes be expected from this kind of applications, can't it. When they started some years ago, there weren't any commercials or any forum, but people didn't donate, so the company didn't get an income from 1-Click, which may be why they added the forum and the ads. 1-Click is however not dangerous or all crappy. First of all its behaviour on your computer is accepted by the anti-spyware parts of both NOD32 and Outpost Pro. Secondly it is one of the easiest applications for downloading an user's entire channel of videos. I have downloaded a couple of thousand videos with 1-Click YouTube Batch Downloader from eurekr.com, and I have not met any problems or received any spam.

One thing they should change, though, is, to make 1-Click download from lot more ports at a time. For now, one video at a time, it is simply too slow, because YouTube uploading never uses my connection's download capacity. On the other hand, it doesn't use any CPU, so the user can just leave it to download while he is working.
