Might be too late with this info Steven, but it does backup and lots of it:

  • incremental zipped/unzipped
  • partial file updating
  • 'Synthetic backup' = partial file updating + versioning + zipping
  • Real-time-sync i.e. monitoring + syncing - if this is combined with zipping it works as versioning

this backup doesnt have versioning applied but you can see the options here ('Real-time-sync' is another tab)

EDIT/ I misread your post Steven:
if you want simpler, I'd go for something else. Advantages here are flexibility and dependability. (I have made mistakes because of messing around with options where I didnt really know what they did. OTOH, there is a wizard which guides you through setting up a backup, includes many options - you can modify it later to explore the rest of the options.) Organisation of backups is not ideal - you can group them by name: let's say I have a bunch of backups going to a particular external drive e.g. "F" so I could start the name of each backup to that drive with "F" e.g. "F settings"; "F documents". These will then group under the heading "F". If I want to run a group I have to select the individual backups and run (like opening a bunch of files).

As above for MSE on 7

Windefender replaces MSE on Windows 8 and is on it by default (not sure what Windows Defender does on 7). It seems to be okay in my limited use of my Win 8 laptop. (I mainly just use it as a rather big and expensive mp3 player at this stage, but that's another topic.)

I havent used Syncback Pro, so sorry, cant compare.
Syncovery aka Super Flexible File Synchronizer (SFFS) is really enterprise level software.
It's extemely dependable. *Lots* of options (which can actually be a bit of a problem if you're a basic user like me).
I use it fairly basically, three sets of local backups, and one backup to amazon s3.

Even though I am a basic user, I've received great support (for my sometimes stupid questions). Have reported a couple of minor bugs over the years that got fixed same or next day. It get's updated very regularly. I've had it six years - in that time there was only one paid update (in 2012) and even that was reasonable cost.

In other words I think it's a bargain at that price ;)

Thanks Curt.

dottech say:
Take note this giveaway includes Linux-based bootable recovery CD/DVD/USB but does not include WinPE-based bootable CD/DVD/USB.

If you create a boot CD with a Win PE trial, maybe it will work without limit...

Note: it's for 32-bit Win, 64-bit is not supported so far.

but that presumably works on 64bit ... ?

Living Room / Re: Cheap LED torches/flashlights - any good?
« Last post by tomos on April 02, 2013, 04:38 PM »
LED's 'fade' with time, so I guess a big question is, whether the more expensive versions avoid that. I've seen the 'fade' happen with a cheap one I bought. A friend of mine had an expensive one, but it's gotten a lot less use so I cant really compare.

They are very bright - sometimes when driving I get blinded by cyclists cause their beam is too high. Usually I'm trying to figure out wtf is this light and then it's too late to 'flash' them (do Americans say 'flash' - or is that dodgy... or is it only dodgy in English English :tellme:)

So, no answers here I'm afraid, only more questions ;)

Ampa, you could try the IQ author on dc. Here's his profile link
https://www.donation...ion=profile;u=101296

If you need help there's also an IQ thread on dc somewhere (search 'sqlnotes') or try the IQ forums - or post here, I'll help as much as I can.

The 'Grids' just give you a view/window on your items. Items displayed depend on 'source' and other filters.
I generally keep it (IQ) fairly simple, but you can make it pretty complex if you want :)

wonder if his worked...

Anyone actually using box yet?
IIUC, their intro video says sync can only be done via folder(s) on the desktop.
Which is not ideal if you want to upload 50GB :)

Otherwise they say you can upload via web interface. But I'm not sure what happens if you upload an active folder - I'm not sure how that might be updated at a later stage.

InfoQube might be overkill for your needs, and it's not free**
But -keeping in mind I'm a basic user- I think it would cover all your needs.
Here are the options when creating a new field:

Screenshot - 2013-03-29 , 11_20_38.png

I'm not sure what you mean by combo-drop downs. In IQ you can have a drop-down list that isnt editable (just select an entry) or one where you can add new entries on the fly.
Export to Excel (.xls) works fine in my experience; also to html.
Then there's pivot tables via Excel, but that's world I know nothing about ;-)

Dunno whether this is overkill,
but I've started another film/movie thread: Movies or films you've seen lately

The thread What are your favorite movies? is pretty active at the moment,
but I thought I'd add this one just for stuff you've seen lately (good or bad).

Hell (German/Swiss) 2011. Director Tim Fehlbaum's first full length feature.
I saw it dubbed in English. It got away with dubbing for me, cause it's not dialogue heavy.

Screenshot - 2013-03-28 , 20_19_41.png

'Hell' actually means bright in German. The photography is great (that should be cinematography I guess), often extremely overexposed in the heat of the sun. A post apocalyptic thriller in a world where the sun is 10° hotter; formerly fertile land and forests are dead. People looking for water/food. Good suspense. Not much visible gore which suits me fine ;-)
Gets 5.9 at IMDB - I thought it was a great movie, sure I could fault it, but for me it was a 7 or more.

Pdf Editor

[cadkas.com]

I have used it for years

The best of the best of the best

the webpage is confusing.
There appears to be different versions but I cant find any explanation/comparision of features.

Pricing is odd - ten dollars extra for the 64bit version over the 32bit one - that leaves a bad taste but I can understand the logic.

They give pricing for 'one concurrent user' - I presume they mean 'two concurrent users' - or maybe my understanding of use of the word is wrong? - Hang on, now I see the intention - 'one' means it can be installed on as many machines as you want but should be used by only one user at any time.

PS - are you associated with the programme rem1010? (and welcome to the site )

« Last post by tomos on March 27, 2013, 03:55 PM »
I used use the delayed capture option occasionally but havent in a while (just noticed yesterday that it's gone from the tray context menu).
Capturing a full screen and editing after is very quick and easy. A selection box automatically selects the active window. This can be easily and accurately adjusted.

Here's my cropped screenshot:

Screenshot - 2013-03-27 , 21_44_20.png

and below the main part of the SC window. In the box bottom-left, you can see a pixel accurate enlargement of where the cross-hairs are,
making it very easy to select an area accurately for cropping:
