Thank You. I was about to look for something like this and your recommendation saves me the time to research.

Edit: Should I also download 'HelpMaker CHM Register Build 1.0' apart from 'HelpMaker Build 7.3.23 (32-bit compatible)'?

General Software Discussion / Looking for a rich text editor
« Last post by sri on September 04, 2007, 08:16 PM »
I am looking for a rich text editor that has the following features:

  • Both plain text as well as formatting like bold, underlining and images should be supported
  • Multiple instances of the application should be runnable. (Ex.: 1.abc, 2.abc)
  • Each instance should have multiple tabs support. When I save, close and reopen a file, say 1.abc, tabs along w/ their contents should be restored.

Prefer freeware. Does anyone know anything close to this?

Super sweet !

I have to admit i'm not going to touch it til it goes beta at least.I dig Opera,it seems as a company they listen
to their users.Ironicly, for a browser i wouldn't pay for back in the day i would pay for now.I wonder how they
generate money ?

I don't think they get much money from the desktop browser. I think I read somewhere that most of their income comes from Opera on other platforms, like mobile phones, PDA's, TV sets, Nintendo DS, Nintendo Wii etc.
The only income they get from the desktop browser is from the deals they have to use google/yahoo as their default search engine (or so I've heard).

That's all fine and nice. How come I can't change the search engine (inside the search box) from yahoo to anything else?

You can. Just open your preferences, go to the search tab and double-click on the search engine you want to use. There, press the advanced button and place a checkmark the the relevant box :)

Thanks. I made a quick screencast of the same.

When I want to research on a topic, I do a search in del.icio.us rather than in Google because the results del. throws out are hand picked by people like you and me.

All my public bookmarks are stored at http://delicious.com/sridhar.

del. is an excellent free service.

Any of the billion online excel services should do the job.

Zoho, Google sheets, Thinkfree, EditGrid, Num Sum, irows...

Interesting - I just tried zipping two files with DOpus in dual pane mode (vertical) and the zip file was created in the folder of origin. I looked at the zip settings in the settings dialogue and can't see anything that covers this, so don't know how I have it set up to accomplish this! I can post screenshots of the two tabs covering zip options from my setup, if you like, but that's about it. It's worth noting that my wife is still running DOpus 8 and on her setup creating a shortcut from the context menu in dual pane mode results in the shortcut being created in the source folder! That's what prompted me to speculate that its a more general setting and not zip specific. I'll take a look at her settings and post back if anything illuminating pops up...

Darwin,

I figured it out by reading the 'Getting to know Directory Opus' tutorial.

We can control where the operations (for zipping and extracting etc.) for buttons takes place by going into Advanced editing of the respective buttons.

For example, for a Extract button:

if the command is "Copy EXTRACT", then the contents get extracted by default to the destination (i.e., the opposite pane).
if the command is "Copy EXTRACT=sub HERE", then contents get extracted to a sub folder by the same name as the archive and in the same folder as the archive.

Any idea what's the equivalent of XY's Catalog in DO? i.e., I want to add (a pointer to) a file or folder and I should be able to click to go to that location in DO (followed by a press of return key to open).

How come I can add only folders to favorites? What about the files?

I just started using DO and have a couple of questions. Hope it's alright to ask here.

I have a dual pane vertical setup (like in xplorer2)

1. With an item selected in the right pane, pressing tab doesn't take me to the left pane (like it does in xplorer2). Any idea how to get DO to do that?

Lunch is not on the table yet so I dashed back in here! Try this setting:
 (see attachment in previous post)
I'm not sure that it will work as you want it to, but it *looks* like this is the setting.

2. 'Extract', 'Add to zip' etc buttons are functioning in the opposite pane as opposed to the the pane containing the items on which the functions were performed. For ex.: if I select two files in the left pane and hit 'Add to zip' button, the newly created zip is in the right pane, not left. Any idea as to how to fix this?

Yes... this is a feature I generally LOVE (in different contexts mind you, such as "Create shortcut" operations as you can have the source and target folders open and the shortcut is automatically created in the target...). I'm not sure how to change this behaviour - a quick search of the settings folder didn't enlighten me - but I'll look into it more closely later on today/this evening.

Best,

Mike

Thanks for pointing out the correct setting Darwin. Regarding my second question, I'll post in DO forums.

With almost a year of xplorer2 usage behind me, I am liking DO so much more than XYPlorer. Good bye XY. I'll visit you after 20 years if and when you implement dual panes.

I use Opera, FeedDemon, and Post2Blog the most. Of those three FeedDemon is the only one that's not free, but in my opinion anyone that is addicted to RSS feeds needs a powerful feed reader like FeedDemon.

What does FeedDemon offer that Feed Reader doesn't?

I'll try phpXplorer later.

How do I set up jupload? What do I do w/ the .jar file?

Update: Somehow the applet seems to be working. A file got uploaded, but it's not anywhere to be seen on the server. Know where the files get uploaded to?

I already use Net2FTP. The problem w/ it is the limited size of files that can be uploaded.

Is anyone aware of a java applet or some other means by which I can drag and drop files to store in my own web space? Here are my requirements:

1. No limit on the file size I want to upload
2. Should work from behind corporate proxy
3. (If possible) I should be able to upload an entire folder
4. Downloads should not be public and be accessible only via a secure password

Basically I am looking for what Box.net provides, but only it should work on my web hosting space.

Any ideas?

General Software Discussion / Re: SubmitToTab - a Firefox add-on

In my opinion, Firefox can do everything (with add-ons) that Maxthon can.

FF > Maxthon

in terms of features brought forward by the add-ons.
