General Software Discussion / Re: Direct Folders 3.2, Anyone Have This Version?
« Last post by Nighted on January 20, 2007, 04:39 PM »
For anyone considering buying any software from Codesector, please take into the account that, from the date of this topic to my post today, I've still received no response to my support ticket or my email.

I know that support is a deciding factor for many when choosing where to put their money. I'll update this when (if) I get a response, but if you read this 6 months from now and I've still not updated it, then it's another 6 months with no reply (which I'm sure it will be).

General Software Discussion / Re: Hide icons from desktop

Iconoid will only flash the icons if you're downloading something directly to your desktop. This is not iconoid's fault.

Anyone thinking of buying one should check out Cover Commander. The difference is totally unbelievable.

You can choose from boxes, books, DVD cases, screenshots...here's Mouser's Screenshot Captor:

With version 3.21, the author has arbitrarily decided for us that we want the tree view shown in explorer every time a window is opened from the menu.

What really annoys me is that this isn't mentioned in the version history, nor is there an option to disable it (that I'm aware of). Nothing in the help file of course. Anyone who has looked at the help file will see that it's outdated. It contains old features and screen shots that aren't even relevant to the current builds.

Audiograbber has a nice sound recorder built into it as well.

It has features such as scheduling as well. I've used it many times to record from radio.

« Last post by Nighted on December 21, 2006, 03:36 AM »
If you have Direct Folders 3.2, would someone consider emailing it to me?

I upgraded to 3.21 and I must say I'm very unhappy with it...but it could be a
conflict in my system causing problems. I deleted the old copy and can't reinstall it to test things out (stupid I know).

I'm not excited about waiting for Code Sector to get back to me about the problems I've submitted.

Please, if you have it, let me know.

If you want to hide your desktop icons, get Iconoid. I think I reviewed it here.

I started with TargetAlert myself. Then after the transition to FF 2.0 and TargetAlert not working (maybe from MR Tech Local Install as gebeleisis mentioned, I never tested it myself), as well as the memory leak issue, I switched to LinkAlert which, unlike TargetAlert is very actively developed at the moment. Also, the author is responsive to good suggestions.

I actually tried AlfaClock (and BetaClock) this morning and although it has some nice features, I'm not impressed by the fact that it uses 12 megs of RAM...

LClock has reminders (AlfaClock doesn't), a skinable calendar and more features than WinCalendarTime and uses about a half meg of RAM mo

Don't forget LClock. ;)

Or if you want the ultimate, pay money and get Chameleon Clock. Then you can enjoy my skin, Alienz (included with the installer), numbers I carefully recreated from the computers in the movie Aliens. ;)

Brian, the author made that is a pretty great guy. He makes Sizer too, a handy application for resizing windows to presets that you can customize. He was even nice enough to send me the source code when I asked.

lanux128 said "i was hoping that maybe someone in this forum can create a similar software because my hunt for such a software on the internet has proved futile. there is one software that comes close but it can only maximize the windows not resize to a certain size. Here is the link: AutoSizer"

Actually, AutoSizer is now version 1.61 and you can set it to resize windows according to class. So once you have it set, any new folder will open using the dimensions you choose, not the default used in XP.

General Software Discussion / Re: Firefox 2 hints and tips
« Last post by Nighted on November 09, 2006, 05:20 PM »
Welll, my spelll cheeck duzzint wurk tooo goodd! Heeyuck!!!

But that's because I didn't notice anything about downloading a dictionary when upgrading to FF 2.0.

Anyway, here's a tip. You don't need that search box on the FF toolbar...any site that you can search from, such as Google for example, you can right click in the search box and select "Add a keyword for this search". I use "G" for Google. If I want to search for purple socks, I just type "g purple socks" in the url bar.

Now you can remove that search box and put buttons there or something if you want.

There is no latest version for download...it's still version 1.0.4.40...show's 1.0.4.40 in the about box, .exe has the same date, file hash is identical.

Please fix the download please.

Thanks

Screenshot Captor / Hey Mouser, Check out Kidsnapper...

I found this really great capture tool the other day...this is very cool...

http://www.philipp-spoeth.de/kidsnapper/

Maybe you'd add something like this to screenshot captor (which I'm finding more and more impressive btw). This functionality could be used in so many ways! Especially software support or monitoring a window from another computer.

Edvard, downloading Slax now. Thanks for the heads up!

Was thinking of trying Linux and didn't realize how many variations there were! Slax looks like a solid little OS and I can fit it on my USB drive! :D
