Living Room / Re: thinking of some earning
« Last post by anandcoral on October 15, 2015, 06:37 AM »
Well after trying few times and then googling, I found that "Google withdrew support for adding Adsense ads to Google Sites" https://productforum...ic/sites/byQt8BIChis

Only Blogger and WordPress allowed, as free sites https://support.goog...e/answer/42534?hl=en

Looks like more work than I thought. I find working on Google sites much easier than WordPress. Let me see how I can manage a blog along with my g.sites. Pause at present.

Find And Run Robot / column to show the actual folder name
« Last post by anandcoral on October 15, 2015, 06:32 AM »
Mouser, can you add a column to show the actual folder name in "Search Folders" tab ?

It will help me to understand what folders FARR is scanning without doing some trial and error.

Thanks everybody for the motivation  :)

I will try it and yes, will keep posted here. It is a new area for me and I want to start, not expecting too much soon, but may help me in longer run, when I will be very old.

Living Room / thinking of some earning
« Last post by anandcoral on October 09, 2015, 06:42 AM »
I am thinking of some earning.
The free apps I make will remain free. The website I make for them can accommodate some ads.

This is how the internet is now and I am planning to go along. I read about adsense.
In summary,
I can apply but may not be approved,
My income is not guaranteed,
Google can disable adsense any time without reason,
May require extra work for the adsense to work.

Presently I am looking at it as an extra source of income, if possible with minimum work.

I will be happy to get comments for fellow developers who have experience in adsense, guidance etc.

Anand

Sorry for late reply. Was taking care of my ailing wife, my first priority. She is recovering now.

So I can't see where a customer request for a feature would make your company cross an ethical line. So I could be wrong or missing something. But I'm still curious.

Yes it is difficult to say if it can be called ethically wrong. It all depends on the side of the line where one is standing.
I can not say about the real projects, for obvious reasons. All the work the software does fulfills the rules of the accounting books. Just for hint I give below as example.

Compamy X pays a big amount in cheque to Organisation Y which has tax benefit. Then Y encash the cheque and pays back cash to X after deducting some percentage. Now in the books of Y there is a big cash amount. The software auto generates expenses as per rules and the account is closed.

The above is practised all over the world and not considered wrong. But if you see the larger impact, it do not seem ethically right.
May be I am wrong.

Anand

It could be you on the line at some point.  And the protections that cover the companies with their teams of lawyers will most likely not apply to you- the scapegoat.
Yes, I have done it.

We make mostly accounting and inventory software. At times I have questioned about the purpose of a particular feature, which I felt was not correct. I got the standard reply, "How does it matter to you or us ? The client want software for this feature. You code it, I sell it. We get our pays. Done."

Many of my software are used to adjust accounting records as per need. If I say we do not make it. Whole lot of programmers and companies are ready to do it. Looking back, when there was no computers and I worked as an accountant, I have done this manually under my then boss. It is just that now I code it, for others to do the same more easily.

Sad, but we are bound to earn for our family and ourselves.

"Ethics in Technology" or in any other profession for the matter, do not exist in front of "Profit Making"

Look at Doctors, they forget that they should treat a "patient" no matter how poor he/she is.
The Charted Account help to dodge the Govt. laws to save tax.
And it is better not to speak about the Lawyers.

Same way Engineers of IT, Electrical, Civil etc. are used by their Bosses to make profit and a big one. They just work as servant to help some one make profit and in turn earn their livelihood, all over the world.

When one is caught, some clean up is done and then everything is back to one. Same will happen to VW and we will forget about it in few years.

Looks like fun.  Thanks for posting this.

As an aside, this is the first Google Photos slideshow I've viewed, and I'm very impressed.  I'm looking into a photo hosting site, and will need to look seriously at that one.
Yes, I also have to think G+ has some usefulness after all.

General Software Discussion / Re: Sudo and Kill commands for Windows
« Last post by anandcoral on September 19, 2015, 10:25 AM »
If you just need to edit protected files every now and then, it's easier to launch your editor with administrative privileges - fastest way to do that is launching it with Ctrl+Shift+Enter from the start menu/screen (silly it doesn't work with Win+R).

Yes and also by right-click on taskbar icon I get administrative option. But I use SUDO from batch file to run a given program in administrative mode.

http://www.ghacks.net/2015/09/17/sudo-and-kill-commands-for-windows/

I have to edit files / script which are in "\Program Files\" folder and need Administrative rights. Found SUDO useful as I can open the text editor via it in Administrative mode.

I already use SuperF4, still KILL can be useful from command line.

General Software Discussion / Re: win10 auto upgrade - confusing mesg
« Last post by anandcoral on September 15, 2015, 03:33 AM »
MerleOne, if you have auto update on and depending on your net connection, windows will download all related updates and then show the icon. I got mine nearly 4 weeks after nearly everybody here. I was reading and commenting on Win10 without the icon. My net connection is very bad and I understand it was due to that.

Now I am a happy user of Win10 without Cortana  ;) She will come when MS allows her in India.

Thanks Shades for the suggestions.

Can I get any help file, web link etc for the methods 2 and 3 ? They seem interesting and I may try them in case C: nearly fills up.

Anand

Thanks MilesAhead, tomos and Shades for the help.

I am more wiser now. Yes it does not look wise to gain 1/2 Gb with the risk of loosing 100 gb if anything goes wrong. I do not have Win10 clean installation CD, neither image of the hdd. UEFI/GPT is quite different from MBR system, as I found in AOMEI PA to convert between them for re-sizing.

So I have dropped the plan for these partitions. Better safe than sorry.

Actually I wanted to increase the size of my C: drive which is filling up faster now in Win10, but the above small gbs won't help much. Have to think some other ways.

Thanks all once again.

General Software Discussion / Deleting Recovery Partition and Merging to C drive
« Last post by anandcoral on September 10, 2015, 10:55 AM »
My Dell laptop came with Win8, got auto updated to 8.1 and now to 10.
Now I find that there are 3/4 recovery partition on my hdd. I assume they are for 8, 8.1 and 10.

2015-09-10_211250.png

I want to delete those partitions and merge the space into C: partition. I have made USB recovery of Win10.
I googled for help on it and downloaded "EaseUS Partition Master" and "AOMEI Partition Assistant".

Before I start deleting and merging, my query is "Has anyone have similar experience ?"
Any advise on it is valuable for me at this stage.

I have added an undocumented/secret feature for this, add ";perpage=#" at the end of your request when viewing a topic, for example ";perpage=500".

I works  Thanks a lot. :)

Normally I or anybody else will not use it. We will use it only if we find interest in a message in a topic, which has become few pages long, and want to read back messages and find clicking 'prev' or 'next' time consuming.

Well my message again got lost.
https://www.donation....msg388318#msg388318

Maybe I was not clear then. I rephrase it.

Can we have an option to show all messages in a thread in one long page without any page break ? It will help me a lot.

Hope I get an answer this time.

Back at home when I put the pen-drive in my machine, AVG stops and reports virus and I format it. This is a routine.

ha! I suppose if the pen-drive ever came back WITHOUT a virus you'd get suspicious, huh?  ;D

You bet, if it happens though I doubt. They are still using XP, you see. :)
