But I did find one screenshot. Looks good:

I use this, doesn't support unicode yet (waiting for version 2), but excellent otherwise

Added to the list
How about a few comments on it, to see if it gets to the "favourites" list? ;)

one really caught my eye:
Oscar's Multimonitor Taskbar: http://www.mediachan...om/free/multimon.htm
this looks like a lite version of the very nice and powerful (but not cheap) UltraMon (http://www.realtimesoft.com/ultramon/).
Just got myself one other monitor, and this is great! :D

Creating a "send to" menu item is trival, you just go to "%documents and settings%/%user%/send to", and create a shortcut there for the executable.
Then, you edit that shotcut's properties, and add the parameters to the "destiny" field.
That should make it ;)
4356
I don't know how to do shell extensions, but i think you could do that with the "send to" right-click menu, it's very easy, and would spare the anoyance of having yet another item on the right-click menu that you'll use rarely (IMO).

This thread is a help for those of you looking for that perfect Address Book Utility.
Bellow, you'll find links for the various apps for the job, mentioned in this forum, a brief description of them, and some relevant DC links.
If you know of other interesting apps similar to those mentioned, please feel free to post a brief description of them below, and it will be added to this post.

Relevant posts on DC's forum about this matter:

  A-book: a very good, sync-able, alternative addressbook
IDEA: Addressbook software (simple, yet powerful)
  Addressbook Software Mini-Shootout

On these posts, the following apps have been mentioned:

  Handy Addressbook
     (24$ full version, trial available)

  Phonedeck
     (freeware, development stopped)

  essentialPIM
     (29,95$ full version, trial available)

  Pimex
     (34.90$ full version, trial available)

The three apps that seem to be the favourite in this matter are:

  A-book
     (29.95$ full version, trial available)
     Mini-Reviews Available: https://www.donation...index.php?topic=2292 (by superboyac)
                                        https://www.donationcoder.com/forum/index.php?topic=1155.0 (by m_s)

  CardScan
(only available with the hardware card scanner, for at least 149.99$)
     Mini-Review Available https://www.donation...index.php?topic=2292 (by superboyac)

  azzcardfile
     (19$ full version, trial available)
     Discussion here: https://www.donation...92.msg15745#msg15745

I think this area is highly incomplete (i can't believe there are only these references in the whole forum), so, please help me complete it ;)

The following code in ahk should solve your problem:

.exe version
.ahk version

Attached to this post, i have added a compressed file with this code in a file, and the compiled version of it.
Only one remark: the compiled version has no possibility of changing the settings, so, it can only accept one file named "file.txt", and in the same folder that the program is.
I hope this fits your needs!
Any problem, please post below ;)

Thanks for the comparison, jroad.
That's a very good compilation of several fonts, thanks for having the hard word doing the screenshot for helping everyone ;)

My favourite is Andale Mono, as it's perfectlly balanced (dina just seems too vertically streched), the letters are almost round, very easy to distinguish between characters and words, and no problem with similar characters.

Damn... I feel stupid.. Thanks, that's the way to do it! :D
I'm happy, I have a dual monitor layout!

"what's the best tray tool", "what's the best adressbooks", "whats the best text editor"
Yep, those are already on the list, those threads got lost of posts and this might help people to locate stuff about it.
And it will be a good way for people to get the whole idea of the section ;)

thanks to luckman212, hopefully he will agree to help mod this section.
Of course, luckman212 was the original "thinker" who gave the idea, i think it's be nice of him to help in this too. Are you up to it, luckman? :D

What's the Best? / Section's Opening post
« Last post by jgpaiva on February 18, 2006, 12:16 PM »
Hello there!
Welcome to the new section here at donationcoder.com, The "What's the Best" section.
This section was LuckMan212's idea, posted on this thread.
After a few changes, it is now presented to you guys in it's final format:

The basic concept of this section is to give a better organization with the already existant (and quite frequent) discussions about types of software applications.
Probably it has already happened to you stumbling upon one thread about a matter that you have much interest in, but there are so many links, reviews and opinions that you can't decipher anything and get completely lost in so much information.
Well.. This section is the solution for that problem (at least, i hope so ;) ).
In this section, there will be some threads about software classes. These threads will have discussion about what's the best application for the job.
The first post, made by the moderator, will contain links for other discussions in the forum about that app class, a list of the apps mentioned, links for those apps, and a very brief description of each one.
The challenge here, for the moderators, is to keep the first post updated, but the major challenge here, is for the members, because they are the ones who post new information, and this section will be as good as the more detailed those posts are.
So, my proposition to you, is that when someone ads one new software to the list, that someone posts a tiny-mini-review, with a small description and at least one screenshot of the app, to make it easier for everyone to find that perfect app for the job ;)

I hope this section is of your liking, and I wait in expectation for your comments on this new concept.
By the way, this section is now officially open, and I we can now open a new thread with a app class. So, I'm open for suggestions.

What do you think the next thread should be about?

General Software Discussion / Dual monitor layout
« Last post by jgpaiva on February 18, 2006, 10:46 AM »
Hey! I have a doubt to post to you users of dual-monitor layout.
I have just noticed that it may be a big help to me having such configuration, since my laptop's screen is quite small.
As i have one crt monitor from an old computer, i figured "why not connect it to my computer and have much more space?".
But my problem is exactly that, i have one laptop, and it doesn' have a very good gpu.
What i wanted to ask you is if there is any possibility for me to connect that screen to my computer and use it as a second desktop.
I have one ATI Radeon Mobility X700.
I hope someone can help me, that would be really handy.
Thanks!

"If you read nothing else on our site, read the newsletter!"
That's the way i thought, "if i read all the site every day, why should i have any interest in the newsletter?". Well.. All that changed when i read this one.

It's very well structured, has everything that went on on the past month, all the news, all the posts, all brainstorming going on (well.. not all of it, the references are all there ;) ).
Receiving it on the mail is just the cherry on top of the cake, it allows for a good storage on information about what happened and when it happened, and even helps divulging DC, if you forward it to your friends.

About point 10, I'm happy I joined before the first anniversary :D
How about YOU? Have you joined? What are you waiting for?

Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: Windows Start Menu manager
« Last post by jgpaiva on February 17, 2006, 09:28 AM »
jdd, farr is not a launch bar, it doesn't have the "visual recognition" to execute programs, you have to type it's name. Some people prefer to use the visual-recognition, because it makes them remember they have those programs. For me, this makes sense, but i don't like using my mouse ;).
But farr v2 (aka mercury runner), will have a launchbar integrating, which we hope will take out the need for the start menu. Right, mouser? ;)

Living Room / Re: Using images on the taskbar
« Last post by jgpaiva on February 17, 2006, 09:25 AM »
The best i can do is this:
Make you a ahk script that has a invisible button right in the place that image is, and then associate that button's behaviour to launch the program you want. This will take you about 1-2mb of ram (quite a lot for a button ;) ), and I'm not completelly sure that it will work. (windows taskbar tends to not let anything come in front of it :( )

Is that a simple image, or a button that really does something?

Through the link on this post, i found FileHand. It seems very interesting, but i haven't tried, did anyone ever try it?
I'd like to know your opinion on it before trying. Thanks!

I'm beginning to think that this is kind of a worthless idea.
It's not that worthless, it actually makes much sense for those who don't know/like farr (i.e., those who don't know it exists ;) ). And also for users that use both farr and the start menu. (Although i can't quite understand how that's possible ;) )

why do java applications suck so much?
The problem with java apps is that java doesn't work like C, and you when you don't want something, you don't destroy it, you abbandon it, and then the garbage collector will come and clean it when the memory usage is too much. This one of the main aspects that tend to make java apps resource-hogs.
