AHK isn't the easiest first language. AHK_L helps somewhat. But the syntax is funky. Maybe give AutoIt a try. It's another macro language.  It has a Send() function that's similar, but the language syntax may be easier to catch onto if you are new to programming. I've been programming PCs since 1986 and AHK still throws me.

To send text see the help for Send, SendRaw etc..

Also if you search here:

I still don't quite get what SubStr() is doing, but from a forum snippet I added the "6 digit" part

mySerial := 1
myFactor := 2

^g:: ; Ctrl+G, change to whatever you want.
{
mySerial := SubStr("000000" . mySerial, -5)
    SendInput, % mySerial
    mySerial += myFactor
}
Return

General Software Discussion / Re: Shape Shift 1.0.9.0 and MoveIt 1.1.3.0
« Last post by MilesAhead on June 11, 2012, 06:15 PM »
MoveIt 1.1.3.0 Added Control Shift e hotkey to Stagger open Explorer Windows.  If 10 or fewer Explorer windows are open they will be placed top left corner then staggered down and right.  11 to 20 the stagger will be 2 columns.  If zero or more than 20 Explorer Windows are open you get the little error beep and nothing happens. :)

I'm doing this on Windows Seven 1280 x 1024 resolution with double height Taskbar. I try to space it so that the address bar in the Explorer window can be read.  Seems to do a reasonably good job of it. The built in Windows Tile Vertical and Tile Horizontal are nearly useless for Explorer windows unless you have around 6 windows open.

With Stagger the Explorer window is about 1/2 the work area in each dimension. The ideal usage is 3 to 10 windows. Then they are spaced nicely diagonally.. at least on my CRT.  Flat screen may look a bit different. But I'd be surprised if it wasn't an improvement over the Tile or Cascade built-ins.

With the Stagger function, the fewer Explorer windows that are open, the more they are spaced apart.
It's similar to the function in Quotidian Folders but I modified it a bit to handle more than 10 windows etc..

At least buffers would be flushed to disk. As for all the rest of it, suspending the USB port etc.. I don't know if they have all that perfected yet. Half the time it doesn't work in Windows either. If the eject works for a drive I'll use it. But most of the time it just hangs. Usually I just run sync.exe to flush buffers to disk then pull the drive or shut it off if it has a power switch. It's been some time since I ran Linux. I'm just going by the link you posted.

I'm not sure about 3rd party programs. But I believe Skrommel had some where he added buttons to the Explorer window.  Maybe others. Check out Skrommel's ahk apps.

The movie was very annoying. But the actress was so hot I had to find more of her flicks.

Ha!  I thought to myself, "That looks like the actress from 'The Transporter'."

DUH!   :)

Yep. But don't judge too harshly. Her Hong Kong flicks(except maybe for a few of the "young and dangerous" series) were way better than Transporter.  If you don't mind seeing her boobs watch Viva Erotica. A very funny well made flick about an "arty director" forced to make a skin flick due to financial woes.

http://www.lovehkfil...ews/viva_erotica.htm
Another of her flicks I watched early on was City of Glass. Albeit a "chick flick" but that's where they tend to stick the hottest babes. Otherwise they kill them off early to cut down on payroll. I also liked Iron Sister.

Many of her Hong Kong flicks weren't distributed here. You can still find some at DDDHouse.com. If you don't have a "region free" player look on videohelp.com.  Many of the major players like Phillips allow you to set the region code to 0 using the remote if you know the sequence.  So far I've purchased 3 different model Phillips DVD players and I was able to set them all to 0 using the remote hack from videohelp.com's list.

I was in BlockBuster back in the day when I still rented VHS tapes. I saw the cover of this lousy Hong Kong Jackie Chan flick called Gorgeous

The movie was very annoying. But the actress was so hot I had to find more of her flicks. Anyway, for a time this was one of my favorite sites:

http://shuqi.org/

Unfortunately it looks like the site has not been updated since around 2010.  But there are still some pics on the site where the actress displays the merchandise.  If you are offended by seeing stunning women naked then I recommend not visiting the Multimedia page on the site.

More recent movie info for Shu Qi is on this site:
http://chinesemov.co...actors/Shu%20Qi.html

Reviews of her classic works can be found here:
http://www.lovehkfil...om/people/shu_qi.htm

Just as an aside, I must imagine Shu Qi was criticized early in her career or in acting class for chewing the furniture during a dying scene.  If you watch The Return of Chen Zen you'll see what I mean.  She gets her revenge. :)

Alas she seems to be in the big box office draw cash it in quick phase of her career. She can pretty much phone it in however she likes since she's still hot.  But I see the end of an era on the horizon.  If you are not into Hong Kong flicks I think the movies she made in the 90s still work.  She was hot, cute and you could see the acting potential. Mid to late 90's may be a good place to start.  Many of the DVDs were only letterboxed. But towards the end of the 90s they started to catch onto anamorphic 16x9. If you liked any of the Charly's Angels movies I recommend Martial Angels and So Close.  Wire fu only more fun, hotter babes, and done better than Drew Barrymore.

MoveIt 1.1.1.0 Changed the quadrant feature to only work with Explorer windows. Seems to be less conflicts. Also you can hold the Alt key down while dragging an Explorer window. Just more natural. Also Explorer windows are actually useful at 1/4 screen size unlike most app windows.

General Software Discussion / Re: Shape Shift 1.0.9.0 and MoveIt 1.1.0.0
« Last post by MilesAhead on June 06, 2012, 12:07 AM »
MoveIt 1.1.0.0 Bumped up the version to 1.1 due to adding a new feature. You may now drag a window to a screen quadrant, then hold down Alt while releasing the mouse button.  The window will snap to the quadrant that has the origin, or top left corner, of the window.

If the window frame is resizeable it will be sized to fit in the quadrant. Otherwise it will just be placed.
See Readme.txt Revisions section for a few details.

Also updated About Box to list the feature.

Shift Kicker 1.1.1.4 Added Ini Option GapSide.  This allows you to pick the side of the screen for the gap. 0 is the default, and will set the gap to the same side as the Taskbar if AutoHide is not enabled.  Use 1 to 4 to force the gap to a different side 1 = left 2 = top 3 = right 4 = bottom.

If GapSide is set to some other value it will be set to default of 0.

About Box has been updated with this info.

FolderCache 6.3.4.0 Updated Open Button to stagger folders across the screen and size the windows. Previous behavior was just to open the folders and let Windows stick 'em anyplace.

The "stagger" is adjusted according to the number of folders selected to open.
The width and height of the folder window is set to 1/2 the work area size in that
dimension.

I understand the use of operators but I still think there's greater utility if you have an input that only searches the results. It's not like it would break the bank to implement it.

It's funny because I ran into an old 2005 page comparing search engine features. Google was supposedly one of the few that had it.

Is it just me or do none of the major search engines provide a "search in results" input box that only searchs the last results?  Seems like it should be easy but I can't seem to get there from here.

General Software Discussion / Re: Delayed Cuts 1.1.0.2
« Last post by MilesAhead on June 04, 2012, 02:29 PM »
Wonderful app, love the minimalism. I've used various start-up managers, but they are all bloated, with unnecessary options, graphic heavy interfaces, etc. No such problems with Delayed Cuts! Thank you for sharing.

Glad you like it. The main reason I wrote it is the delay feature in other utilities often just grab the exe file and run it after a delay.  That's why it only accepts .lnk files.  That way I know the user has the opportunity to set the needed options such as start window type, command line args etc..

I use it to start a lot of my single purpose hotkey apps. Plus I have to admit I like the Toast slide window developed by Melba23:  http://www.autoitscr...ge__hl__toast__st__0

It's a good excuse to make Toast. :)

So, if I understand correctly, I should replace SectionAte 1.0.20.0 with ShapeShift + MoveIt?

SectionAte was sort of a failed attempt. The successful parts were moved to MoveIt.  ShapeShift and MoveIt should not be run together since Alt Arrow hotkeys are used by both.  Think of ShapeShift as a first attempt. It's more for people who like the security of looking at the Gui to see what section to use.  MoveIt is aimed at power users and has more features. The best being the Custom Save or 'z' key feature.

General Software Discussion / Re: Shape Shift 1.0.9.0 and MoveIt 1.0.6.0
« Last post by MilesAhead on June 03, 2012, 04:20 PM »
MoveIt 1.0.6.0 Now Custom Save info is written to .ini file using floats as a percentage of the work area dimension.  When reading the Custom values from the .ini file, if the numbers are not floating point, they are handled the old way(the same as v. 1.0.5.0.)

If you wish to adjust your custom saves to accommodate more than one screen res. just save using 'z' key. If you use a custom work area setting please remember to use a work area appropriate for the new screen res so that calculations will work. If you use AutoHide Taskbar or always let the system set the work area then you don't need to do anything special.

I usually run at 1280 x 1024 with the 1024 cut down to 908 via work area adjustment. As test I saved a couple of sections with the new version using 'z' then changed the screen res to 1600 x 1200 and set the 1200 down to 1020 work area.  Then I keyed a couple of windows into position.  I must say it worked pretty well. Should be especially handy if you have to use a smaller screen res. It should proportionately size down so that the windows make sense on the desktop, provided you adjust the work area if needed.

The short of it is, you should not have to do anything for the program to work the same as 1.0.5.0. To transition to percentage custom saves, place your custom windows and re 'z' 'em. It's ok to mix and match. Any Custom setting still using the old format will pass through. Of course it will not be sized proportionately if the screen res and/or work area is different than when saved. But it shouldn't be anything bizarre. :)
