Found Deals and Discounts / Re: FREE Ashampoo Burning Studio 2009
« Last post by Curt on April 13, 2010, 03:47 AM »
-I am surprised by your experiences. Yes, Rainer Lesani (AND MrReg AND more addresses) is much too keen on hitting the Send -button several times a week, but also his (their) mails includes the usual line that you could respond to:

If you no longer wish to receive this Service Letter (to: _curt_ @ xxxx.dk) please click here.
Ashampoo® will not give your e-mail address to any other companies.
-it worked for me.

As someone may have noticed, I am not a fan of Ashampoo's any more. But still their offers are tempting to me. As an example this new one; Ashampoo® Burning Studio 9 for $9.99 !! I mean: the program is brand new, (almost. I have a copy), but they are already selling it out as if version 10 is to be launched next week!! (Is it?)

MAYBE the offer is only for registered customers, I am not sure. I haven't checked because I would really like to WARN you against Ashampoo! Their updating speed is so rapid that it is as if you are merely subscribing. Their programs SEEMS to be cheap, but in reality they aren't. Ashampoo is expensive!

- and then there is this totally annoying advert for MyAshampoo Toolbar. Every time you open Burning Studio a pop up will tell you about MyAshampoo Toolbar, ..and will you believe: there is no option to remove the advert! Oh, I hate it! I have purchased a license for the Burning Studio program, so how dare they turn my program into adware??!!! If you protest, they will tell you that you can get rid of the advert by installing (and disabling) their toolbar!!!!!!!!

I donated as a thank you to the excellent forums and community information rather than the programs itself. Reading the forums is what I have mostly benefitted from. In fact, I don't use any of the programs here regularly though I try them out whenever new versions are released.
- this post could have been written by me ;-)

---

I just came across this on Fast Picture Viewer Pro's homepage:

"What happened to the free version?"
(...)
... , and most would give a few bucks (or more) to support the effort! At least, that was The Plan...

To make a long story short, it did not work. Web traffic did surge and people did love the codecs, but after 106,661 downloads from our server (and 117,738 hits on the post-install web page), only about 0.2% of the downloaders actually donated anything: one fifth of a percent of all users is a disappointing figure at best.

Thanks, Miles. Because of your post, I am trying Iron right now. Hadn't even heard of it before. But Iron really is fast - except when I am trying to understand where to find the features I am looking for! But if I recall right, I had the same problem when I first was trying out IE 8 and Office 2010 and..., so I expect I will learn how to handle this one as well ;-)

General Software Discussion / Re: Helicon Filter won't work on my computer!
« Last post by Curt on April 12, 2010, 02:52 AM »
@cyberdiva
You say that there were two exe files at the same time. But Helicon only runs one exe at a time, so this proves that the first one didn't close properly before you started the second one; Hence the freeze. Remove them both thoroughly (REVO > "moderate") and try out version 5.0 again.

Gents! I am afraid we may be talking different languages, or is this turning into a battle on words?

jojo99; I am so sorry that I only provided a direct link to the exe instead of a link to the thread in which the file was introduced. My reason was that is was a rather lengthy thread, but now I see that you have not read it so you cannot have an idea of what it all was about:

There is something strange going on inside yo.. ehhh...  ...something strange going on! Oh yes, AFOM works very well indeed. With one tab open (this page) my Firefox will use around 78 MB, up to 100 MB, but then AFOM will lower the memory usage to just 10MB, and Firefox will start building up memory usage again, and AFOM will wait a while and then do its job again... I have not cared to study how long it will wait. And oh yes, TrimAll works very well. Maybe the problem is the methods you are using, (which I really don't care to comment further on), or maybe you just didn't get the purpose of the program? When a memory leak has been recovered, the programs will at once start to build up memory usage again. To see this, you will need to watch the total memory usage of your computer, activate the TrimAll.exe, while still watching the memory usage, and you will see it. Long-term effects doesn't exist here. Just maybe we are not trying to pull your legs?

TrimAll really has very little to do with Firefox.

Found Deals and Discounts / Re: Nitro PDF Pro v6 US $40

This not the one with OCR built in, but for a good PDF program, it's a good deal.

I would say the deal is (almost) awesome! Nitro is so much better quality than any other pdf editor you can have for $40.

General Software Discussion / Re: Video Editing software - Any recommendations?
« Last post by Curt on April 11, 2010, 12:55 PM »
1)-Did you pay for the software?
1) that is none of your concerns :-)

The question may have been misunderstood or at least poorly formed. On the homepage I see no other way to get the Video Editor than to buy ("subscribe to") the hole package, $59 (plus VAT)(or $39 for a year); so I think the question in question could be: is it really worth all that money, this AVS Video Editor? Or did you "subscribe to" a stand-alone version that maybe is cheaper?

Secondly, it is perfectly okay to question that particular site, as they for several years have had the one and same advert  as they have now: "70% Off! Final Offer! In April only!" Only the name of the month has ever been changed...

... I just feel that the thread was moving away from Sagelight ...

- you're of course right, Dormouse.

I have also tried out Sagelight, of course, and was very impressed. The main reason I gave praise to Helicon was that while it took me an hour to get a fine result in Sagelight the very first time I used it, it literally took me less than a minute to get a similar result in Helicon. On the other hand I know from experience that it would take me much longer with some of the other respected editors. Is Sagelight difficult to operate? No, it is dead-easy! However, it took me an hour to figure it out, because of too many buttons in sight.
4287
one simple example of what I like about the Helicon:

The very first time I was trying Helicon I found this dark and dull demo original:

1920x1280 pixels:
demo.JPG

Within in a minute, still the very first time I tried the program, I made this version:

demo_hf.jpg

There may be (many?) programs better than Helicon, but few  if any  as easy to use!
4288
too many questions to answer... Helicon can be trialed for 30 days without any limitations. The version from BdJ is 5.0 beta. Version 4.93.2 is FREE :-)

http://www.heliconso...ilter_downloads.html
4289
I am happy with my six dollar Sagelight :-) but after trialing Helicon Filter 5 I am certainly going to take the offer on Monday, as well. What an easy way to make fine pictures!

A little tip: use coupon code EB2E75E4 during checkout to save 10%

An even better deal would be to bundle it with Image Comparer; the set's normal price is $70 but this way it is $50 -10% = $45

General Software Discussion / Re: Icon Viewer
« Last post by Curt on March 31, 2010, 01:28 PM »
I don't think such a program even can exist. To my understanding the 'icons' you see in the taskbar and the systray are not actual icons but bitmap pictures of the icons. Meaning that you will have to go to each of the represented programs' folder, and extract or copy each icon.

 :-[  sorry, morons.   :P

I closed my pc and went to bed a little too quick. I should of course first have acknowledged here that REVO Uninstaller did the job without any problems.

No, Chris, the version available from the homepage was newer but couldn't install because it insisted first to remove the older one. But as I said, REVO didn't care about such trifles.
4299
does it disappear (by itself) or is Vista hiding it?

I have PS Tray Factory and AnVir Task Manager Pro, and have set Vista not to hide inactive icons from the tray. This way icons behave like I want them to.

I have not tried Process Manager for Windows  on Vista.

morons, all of you

---

Can I delete the lot?
- yes of course, but will I most likely loose something important like uninstallers, etc?
The folder is hidden, and there must be a reason.

If you delete a file with the extension .msi you cannot remove that program later on, because the msi contains the uninstaller.
