... However what's cool is that you can strip these characters from the abbreviation from your custom system to one of the keys integrated into DA.

Say what? :tellme:

We can sort the list of available programs by descending order of date so that the most recently installed software appears at the top.  Useful feature.

I read a very handy tip today on the program's blog: Set two dots as suffix for your abbreviation and uncheck Confirmation box. That way when you type the abbreviation and put a couple of dots at the end, it gets triggered. Much easier than pressing a shift or F12 key for example.

Personally, I think a single dot is even better and easier.

General Software Discussion / Re: Tranparency in IE 6
« Last post by sri on October 10, 2007, 11:03 PM »
I think IE6 is as or more lackluster in engine speed than IE7. And both are not exactly resource friendly, a issue which gets more accentuated by the use of Maxthon 2, which was reported as a major hog by some DC members.

Maxthon classic is the best thing to use if you have to use IE.

Agreed that FF is a memory hog but w/ 2 GB RAM, I don't care.

It's not that you don't have options. Why don't you use FireFox or Opera?

Perhaps you all find AHK to be easy, but I didn't. For non-programming minds like mine, Macro Express is great.

DA does look better and its GUI scores over PE. But PE is equally good/fast once you familiarize yourself w/ it. I use PE not just for expanding text but for launching programs and websites as well.

General Software Discussion / PowerPro bar question
« Last post by sri on October 03, 2007, 09:31 AM »
I would like to have my only visible PowerPro bar to be centered and at the top of my screen (auto hide). I currently have the following settings:

Screenshot - 03-Oct-07 , 7_57_29 PM.jpg

but the bar doesn't appear centered and is docked to the left!?

Also I would like the bar height to be the same as those of the icons.

Any idea how to do these?

tinny, did you try the free Phrase Express. I am curious to understand why you would pay up for DA when you can have Phrase Express for free.

May be one of the add-ons is the trouble maker? Try disabling all of them.

Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Network -> Settings

Make sure direct connection to the internet (the top one) is selected and not the proxy option.

Stay away from Partition Tragic. Use Acronis Disk Director instead.

brownstudy: As long as you can install Firefox and an add-on to it called Foxmarks at your work place, you can sync bookmarks between any # of computers.

General Software Discussion / Command to empty recycle bin?
« Last post by sri on September 27, 2007, 09:37 PM »
I want to create a button for emptying recycle bin and put it at the top of my screen using PowerPro. I tried

cmd.exe del \C C:\RECYCLER\?*.*

but that didn't delete the contents.

Any ideas? (w/o using another program like http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/nircmd.html or http://www.appdeploy...ds/detail.asp?id=298, if possible)

General Software Discussion / Re: What's your preferred File Manager
« Last post by sri on September 27, 2007, 12:03 PM »
Wow! I'm impressed - I just received a receipt, mini-manual, and a CD ROM containing the latest release and my registration file for Total Commander! My $34 investment is looking better and better all the time. The file manager is awesome and this kind of attention to detail is phenomenal  Christian Ghisler is a class act.

Total Commander? Are you referring to the ugly duckling? How does it compare w/ DOpus in your opinion?

General Software Discussion / Re: Switcher2: Expose Clone (Window Arranger) for Windows
« Last post by sri on September 25, 2007, 03:35 AM »
No, Flip3D most definitely have some usability issues. I wonder who at Microsoft figured it would be a good idea to display your open applications like a stack of photographs? It's not exactly the easiest way to do things, as you can't just scan over the screen with your eyes to locate the correct one. What I would recommend to anyone that want some of the convenience of a program like "Switcher 2" but doesn't want to install 3'rd party software, is to use this very nice tip from Cybernetnews and just increase the thumbsize of the regular alt+tab instead :)

I must concur! The AERO Win+Tab "Flip 3D" feature is very usable when I don't have Switcher2 open (or on other Vista AERO PC's). With the added "Cool!" effect of the person who owns the machine it is a fast way for me to work with 10+ windows at the same time. Just wish you could close them with it without having to see it first.

I use PowerPro to bring up a menu (upon pressing Ctrl) of open windows from which I can easily select a window to close. Easy and convenient.

f0dder: Rapget is a dedicated manager to download only from rapidshare, not any others. Also it lacks several features that other standard DL managers like Internet Download Manager, FlashGet have.

Carol: PSTF isn't like FBE (which, by the way, I also use).

PSTF will collect the specified tray icons and arrange them all under one. Check out this small flash movie:

http://screencast.com/t/WQfuHObc8

It will remember which icons you want managed by it and will present you w/ a nice clean tray every time.
