try a player with built-in codecs, such as KMPlayer and see if it makes any difference..

I didn't ask for that much!

well, you can always pass around if you feel that you have an excess of it.. ;)

i just noticed the links, thanks for posting them.. :)

Caveat: when running Lite for the firsttime, it notifies you that updates are available and offers to download a newer version for you.  Surprise!  The "new version" downloaded is really the 15-day trial version.  Ha ha, got you, sucker!  Luckily the 15-day limited edition installs alongside the Lite version, so it's easy to uninstall without corrupting Lite.  But still... a teeny bit deceptive, methinks.

yes, that's very sneaky..

thanks a lot, Armando! i think Mythbuntu fits the bill as it is based on Ubuntu and that should help to keep things simple. as for the video card, i'm not sure but i have a GeForce4 MX440 lying around so i'll just take it along with me.. :)

if you're concerned about the program dialling home, why not block it temporarily via the firewall or disable the internet connection and see if any features are affected. btw, what type of connection are you using?
4159
i had Kubuntu/Mepis on my mind but this is not for me. it's for a friend who wants to watch DivX movies on his TV as he had heard of Windows Media Center. so i'm not sure how he'll find Linux but i'd like to pick someone's brain here before venturing into the respective distro's forums.. amoung the points for consideration:

• codecs come with the box.
• good hardware detection (auto-detect would be nice)
• the least tinkering to get the TV-out working.
• a smaller, specialized type of distro
4160
this seems like the correct thread so i'll post my q here: if i wanted a distro that comes with most of the popular video codecs and TV-out support, which would that be?
4161
was it VisualRoute?

Edit: If you want to *edit* the menu, you'll have to edit the MENU.ML file on your phone, and requires a bit of firmware surgery (to access phone's filesystem, probably with Setool2Lite and XS++). Contact me if you're interested, or drop in IRC :-]
wow, it seems like a lot of work.. thanks anyway, scancode.. i will drop by the IRC channel one of these days :)

Just a short post to note that the free license code provided by Tech Smith doesn't work and the only response I received from an imquiary is a list of FAQ type of problem fix suggestions none of which are applicable.

if the offer is still valid, try requesting a new key. also just a suggestion but try copy-paste the serial number instead of keying-in yourself. for the record, mine works fine..

this is the program i had in mind, check out this article.

just noticed this but as i read about this program. i'm reminded of Ram-boosting programs of yesteryears, which took advantage of high prices of RAM sticks.. anyway, the program claims to have "smart caching mechanism" which seems to be a euphemism for swap-disk/virtual ram kind of technology.

[off-topic]but scancode, any ideas what is the best way to go about if i want to change menu items and app they link to? e.g. in my K810, there is no radio icon, but a video call icon instead and i'd like to change this. :)[/off-topic]

welcome back, JoTo! i'm glad that you're all right and back at DC.. 8)

about the postcard riddle, it's nothing.. :) i couldn't get a postcard from the local post office or the stationeries because they have stopped selling it even though i remember buying there in my younger days, that's why you received the patched-up card. & yes, it's the Petronas Towers in the centre..

now all you have to do take a collage snapshot of the mail items and post a screenshot here.. :)
