Thanks fo the follow-up, Bob.

It's always interesting to see how these things resolve.
One never knows when the info might be useful.

Glad to hear you have some grounds for optimism.

I don't know why anyone wants to live in the 'land of the free' any more.
-Carol Haynes (April 28, 2008, 06:14 AM)
Or the U.K.
Aren't you under visual scrutiny 24/7 these days?
I especially admire the plan whereby the same cameras are used to collect fees and spy on the guilty (until proven innocent).
And doesn't the government keep handing out 'secure' information on its citizens in a sort of monthly 'hunt-the-lost-cd' contest?

And, while we're at it, is this your suitcase that somebody just delivered to me? It bears a sticker that says 'T5'.

More later, I hear a knock at the door...

For some of what I happen to do Illustrator is a must.

Illustrator is like trying to win a point-to-point horse race while riding an elephant...
not as fleet of foot but it'll stomp across country, over any obstacle, to finish first in the end  :)

I find Xara to be delightfully nimble, and just right for some less complex jobs.

Horses for courses, which is why most of us have a full stable.

Oh for the Aldus days!

FWIW, when something goes sour here on XP, forcing an ungainly reboot, I sometimes find large files in %temp that Windows can't see but that I can deal with from DOS. The amount that you're missing sounds about right for that.

Probably more helful than helpful  :)

Mouser already did it with Dr. Windows

A little discretion, please!  This is a family site.

For my money the best new feature of Xara 4 is the text repel.

It's impressive to watch that 'live' while dragging a complex shape over a large body of text!

Kick out the ass,

I tried again, using the information supplied by Yuri and everything went smoothly.

This is a nice example of a responsive company moving quickly to remove an obstacle.

I should emphasize that the original problem arose from the payment-processing outfit,
Digital River GmbH, and was never the fault of the software company itself, Heaventools Software.
4087
Lost a potential sale to me as the ordering system (at Digital River GmbH) persists in identifying my email address as a 'free e-mail address' which it is not.

I don't need whatever hassle is involved in sorting that out.

It's fun but -- and perhaps this is the whole point of it -- it almost forces Monster into a fight.

Good to see when people stand up for their rights.

We should all do more of it with the way the world is moving.

diesel is now £1.20 per litre (~ $2.36US, $2.40 CAD or 1.49 EUR).
-Carol Haynes (April 15, 2008, 07:33 PM)

I know Brits usually suffer much more expensive prices, but that's actually a really good price for fuel compared to my area. Gasoline here is about $3.20 and diesel is above $4.

Deozaan,

I think you're talking gallons and Carol's talking litres.  It seems that Carol's cost for diesel is roughly $8.90USD per US gallon.

:) or, depending on which side of the pond one is, perhaps that should be :'(

Incidentally how long have US and Canadian dollars been on a par?
-Carol Haynes (April 15, 2008, 07:33 PM)

Since about September 2007.
It's been great for buying stuff from the U.S. but it's not helping our economy overall.
The previous occasion was about 30 years ago.

I have the feeling (perhaps wrongly) that when small-denomination coins are withdrawn no vendors round down.   >:(

-iphigenie
Nothing wrong with grey meat and limp vegetables, I grew up on them I see your point!

exhume always comes to mind - a verb for "dig up dead people", how crazy is that
-f0dder

Crazy?  From where do you think all that boiled food comes!?

Surely everyone knows you can't eat raw dead people.

(from a command prompt see color /?)

You realize, of course, that grammar police is merely an anagram of real comma prig.  Excellent credentials in either case  :)

I, too, like the idea of a move to Linux.
Business stuff that I use (both hardware and custom software) locks me into Windows.
Were I to close out the business stuff I'd probably be happy to change.

For me, it's not worth the bother of running different OS's on different machines. I did that for enough years, in the past, that the fun has rather drained out of it. Come to think of it, it never was all that entertaining having to reconfigure the floppy drives (yet again) to handle a different dialect of, say, CP/M.

Didn't we all know that if Microsoft kept at it long enough they'd succeed at something related to Windows?
