MediaShout seems both advanced and capable. However, I am puzzled about the "more than 50 bible translations"... I have merely managed to find eight, on their site. And when I went to register, it was only to find out that MediaShout does not recognize Denmark as a country!

General Software Discussion / Re: SIGIL, free ePub editor
« Last post by Curt on June 14, 2010, 10:43 AM »
-your words made me once more try to test LyX + TeX. I think this was the fifth time! As usual I was given the "TeX was not fully installed, would you like to run the installer again? Hey, the folder is not empty; I cannot do anything!" stupid talk, but this time I persevered. And finally after an hour or so, I could admire this output:

2010-06-14_173005-793.gif

Quite frankly I think LyX + La/MikTeX-whatever is based on a neardish almost stupid installer system. But seeing this output I can for the first time begin to understand why some swear to LyX & TeX. All the other times that I've tried to test the combination, one or the other didn't install properly.

General Software Discussion / SIGIL, free ePub editor
« Last post by Curt on June 13, 2010, 05:11 PM »
I wanted to test Sigil, but felt even more unsure than normal, so I searched our forum for Sigil, and found nothing. Then I searched for epub editor and finally for ebook editor, but still found nothing! This is quite a surprise to me; I really expected someone had said something about these subjects. But it seems not. http://code.google.com/p/sigil/

SIGIL-logo.png

Well, I still know very little about Sigil, but I can tell that it is an ePub ebook editor, for all major operating systems. It is free. They have a fine user's manual. And the editor is merely in version 0.2 ...

jzWyI.png
Sigil is a multi-platform WYSIWYG ebook editor. It is designed to edit books in ePub format.

Now what does it have to offer...

    * Free and open source software under GPLv3
    * Multi-platform: runs on Windows, Linux and Mac
    * Full Unicode support: everything you see in Sigil is in UTF-16
    * Full EPUB spec support
    * WYSIWYG editing

    * Multiple Views: Book View, Code View and Split View
    * Metadata editor with full support for all possible metadata entries (more than 200) with full descriptions for each
    * Table Of Contents editor
    * Multi-level TOC support
    * Book View fully supports the display of any XHTML document possible under the OPS spec

    * SVG support
    * Basic XPGT support
    * Advanced automatic conversion of all imported documents to Unicode
    * Currently imports TXT, HTML and EPUB files; more will be added with time
    * Embedded HTML Tidy; all imported documents are thoroughly cleaned; changing views cleans the document so no matter how much you screw up your code, it will fix it (usually)

    * An actually usable user interface
    * Native C++ application
    * Bugs :)
    * And a lot more...

Don't forget to read the online manual!.
If you wish to discuss Sigil, feel free to do so on the Sigil subforum on MobileRead.
Also check out the wiki pages, especially the installation instructions.

For those who want more up-to-date information on Sigil's development, you can always take a look at the live ChangeLog. That file is linked directly from the repository, and it is updated as bugs are fixed and features are added.

You can also subscribe to RSS and Atom feeds.
If you found a bug or want to request a feature, read the ReportingIssues wiki page.
Also feel free to check out Sigil's development blog.

Found Deals and Discounts / Birthday: 1-abc 87% off!
« Last post by Curt on June 11, 2010, 05:06 AM »
The entire catalogue from 1-abc.net is including 29 apps and is normally more than €480, but for a short period of time (until 30. June) it's available for merely €60, because 1-abc.net is celebrating their 5 years' birthday. Their homepage for this offer might scare you - it's all in German - but the programs are in English as well, so don't worry. Also, the name of each program is kind of self-explaining, I think. Anyway, they have English pages for each program, so just follow the links and have a look.
2010-06-11_143454-791.gif

Furthermore, all of their programs are small and easy to run; no bull##it from this company. I have several of their programs  and will not hesitate to recommend 1-abc.net in general. !tjeck.gif
You can even have them write you your own version of one of their programs, for €500 ;-)

To get to the offer: http://1-abc.net/newsltr/0102de.htm

+1 for Icon Packager. I've used it in the past without any trouble whatsoever. You can change your icons from default to whatever you want and back again without worrying about corrupting your default settings. Of course, YMMV!

-nice2 (="nice feature"+"nice price")!

At this price I would say Revo Pro should be considered a very fine offer. However, I would still say it is a little clumsy to figure out how to use. But of course, I may not have demonstrated proper patience to read the f#¤*%¤g manual...
4064
-there is no discount link in the Std version. And yes: 1 for $40, 2 a' $30, 4 a' $20

Revo_PRO is "merely" a competitor to TotalUninstall, etc. It may be fine, but I have some of the competitors, so I didn't find any reason to purchase Revo's version.

One feature I have spoken about several times is the blue arrow button next to any marked activated folder, allowing to look inside the folder without opening it:

If the DIY approach is too daunting, Linuxcare will be printing a run of posters at 120cmx168cm (about 4' x 5'8") for sale. If you are interested, send us mail.

A preview version was also sent to Everything Linux in Australia, so they may have them available for sale soon, too.

-yes, of course large arm movements are faster.

As times has gone, I think it has become fairly easy to hit the target tab, when I drag&drop. Also, you can drag to the folders in the tree in the left margin. Finally, copy to, or move to, or cut&paste, are fast&easy because they are buttons on your toolbar.

... I never could get out of the habit of just opening two Explorer windows instead of going to a tab.

-don't you use tabs in your Internet browser?

Anyway, with QTTabbar, you can just click "Options > Window > Capture new Explorer processes", and "Options > General > Activate new tab, +(and/or),  reuse existing tab (or, open in new tab)".

---
re-Edited: Of course there are also "Favorite folders" (Options > Groups)

-which makes my Explorer always opening with nine tabs ready:

Sorry, if this was posted before:

QTTabBar is developed further.    :)

GOOD NEWS!!

Thank you, Lutz!

Hmm... so now we are recommending a crack?!!!   :o   8)

QTTabBar is written in C#, which means it can be easily decompiled. Thanks to Red Gate Software’s amazing .NET Reflector, I was able to decompile QTTabBar into surprisingly organized source files. After messing around in Visual Studio for a while, I was able to get the project files working, and got it to compile. I then checked it into SourceForge, and here we are.

re-Edited:
People might wanna hold on to their horses, as the development of the new QTTabbar still is in Alpha 3.

another one being regularly updated is Explorer++; now at version 1.1,
and mentioned in today's email from CyberNet Technology News.

Explorer++ is a free, open source, tabbed, portable, Explorer replacement   :up:

Comes both for 32-bits = 363 KB (edited: 860 kb unpacked), and for 64-bits = 425 KB
-and looks really good!  :-*

explorer-replacement.png

I have just downloaded it and I am certainly going to test it. The only feature I am missing right out of the box is Quizo's blue "look-inside-the-folder"-button (which is why I am telling about the program here on this thread). I don't know why all file managers in the world don't have such a fantastic feature; it can be sooo time-saving when you are looking for something you don't quite remember the name of.

- maybe version 8.0 was called ME-DOS  ???

MS-DOS development originally started in 1981,[2] and was first released in 1982 as MS-DOS 1.0[2]. Several versions were released under different names for different hardware[3]. MS-DOS had eight major versions released before Microsoft stopped development in 2000.

Of course NT is build upon MS-DOS, but that doesn't make it MS-DOS, it is still NT.
NT has nothing whatsoever to do with MS-DOS.

-no, you're right.
They talked about using MS-DOS for OS/2, after Me on MS-DOS, but gave it up for 2000 on NT.

all you need is a regular Windows format - be sure to do a full format (ie, not ticking the "quick format" checkbox).

Note: The Danish company PAD-DATASERVICE claims in their case summaries that they successfully have recovered ALL files from a re-formatted hard-drive. They don't say if it was a 'quick-format' - one will just have to assume and HOPE!

General Software Discussion / Re: PikyBasket replaced by Copywhiz
« Last post by Curt on June 06, 2010, 04:43 PM »
-because of the last couple of posts I want to be clear for my part:

I am glad that Copywhiz is more clever and a little easier to use than PikyBasket. At first I was also disappointed that it wasn't a free update, but come to think of it, I now think it was acceptable, well... almost fair! by Conceptworld to call it an upgrade to PikyBasket - this way giving PikySuite users the opportunity to upgrade with a discount. Conceptworld is not some user-group's social forum for poor or spoiled students, but a company with an obligation to make money, and the more money the better. So they could easily have avoided the discount.

But I will also say that I feel it was only like last month I purchased PikySuite, and I feel really disappointed that it now has lost its value. Copywhiz is called an upgrade to PikyBasket, but PikySuite  which includes PikyBasket  has been abandoned!! This gives me the distinct feeling that the company owes me something in return! Something like PikySuite Mk II, or Pro, whatever such a thing would be able to do.
