urlwolf - I don't think this works under linux and it no longer seems to be in development but Accelman does what you want.

Circle Dock / Re: circledock DELETED ALL MY FILES! help!
« Last post by joiwind on February 04, 2010, 12:19 PM »
Another suggestion for this kind of situation in general would be restoring a system snapshot - even Windows restore point could/would have rectified this "disaster", not to mention the many better applications to create snapshots.

A windows restore point will not restore lost non-system files, so it wouldn't have rectified the problem- in fact, it would have made it more difficult to retrieve the data.

I don't agree. I have often restored a snapshot after mistakes etc and I have always been able to completely recuperate everything.
Are we talking about the same thing ? I use Farstone Driveclone Pro and automatically make a snapshot once every 24 hours plus a snapshot when I am about to install something that could make important changes and this has often got me out of serious trouble.

Any other opinions on this ?

Yes, as I said above, after having read some of the posts on the Comodo Time Machine board I decided to give it a miss - at least for a while.

It's true - restore and image software are two very different things - I use both to cover all eventualities.

General Software Discussion / Comodo Time Machine - who's going to try it ?
« Last post by joiwind on January 12, 2010, 11:49 AM »
I have used FarStone DriveClone for a long time, it is in my opinion an excellent program which has often saved my "life", however I haven't wanted to continue paying for updates.

So when I came across Comodo Time Machine today, I was obviously intrigued - but has anyone here tried it yet ? In other words has anyone taken the risk yet ?

If not, then I suppose I'm going to have to do so myself (snapshot of a snapshot?).  :D

EDIT : just been reading some posts on their forum - think I'll wait a while...

Thanks for that shobazi - good find.

I've searched here for posts about the AVS firewall, have you tried it ?

Thanks for the suggestions - I'm trying Switch Sound File Converter, the demo (free) version allows converting one file at a time and the paid version allows batches, it's not bad at all.

Happy New Year !

General Software Discussion / MIDI to MP3
« Last post by joiwind on December 29, 2009, 04:48 AM »
I'm looking for a good freeware MIDI to MP3 converter - any suggestions ?

I've been playing mid files and recording them with Audacity then exporting as mp3, but it's a long way round.

Circle Dock / REQUEST : "always on top" option in context menu
« Last post by joiwind on December 25, 2009, 04:43 PM »
Hi, it would be helpful to have an "always on top" option in the right-click context menu - when you want to drag-and-drop something from somewhere, if the z-level option in settings is set to "normal" then CD of course disappears to the back when clicking on whatever you want to drag over. You then have to go to settings, find the z-level, change it, go back do what you want to do - then go back to settings.......

This could of course have been requested before but I didn't do a search !

@ Paul Keith, have you looked at yBook ? Check it out.
418
No, I think it is more the subject that is objectionable.
419
@ superboyac - yes, that error happens sometimes, particularly when a screensaver is running and Meteo Fusion tries to update. But it's nothing serious.

I have had no other problems with MF.
420
Same for me, I have tested many of these apps and been disappointed by pretty well all of them for one reason or another.

But, do you know Meteo Fusion ? I am using it all the time now and I'm really pleased with it - give it a try out...

@ JennyB - thanks, I hadn't thought of that, I'll give it a try.

« Last post by joiwind on December 18, 2009, 07:58 AM »
Hi, there is a complete index of XP commands HERE and I was thinking it would be good to have a small application with all these commands in either list form, a drop-down menu or whatever and which would open any of the commands when clicking on the line in the app....if you see what I mean ?
