Found Deals and Discounts / SideWinder for Windows...
« Last post by Curt on July 21, 2010, 05:28 PM »
Tech I Share has a really fine review on SideWinder Every Day Launcher Companion. Actually the review is so fine, it wouldn't make much sense if I tried to do a review, here! I see SideWinder as a competitor to programs like, say, Launchbar and RecentX and some three more programs, at the same time! The first ten to fulfil the obligations (after more than 3 hours, I am still the only participant) will get a "Personnal" lifetime license for free, normal price $30. Pro version at $60 includes 10 keys.

Some SideWinder Features:

    * Launch Applications, Games, favorite Websites, Files and Documents

    * Group and arrange your favorite music files according to their Albums, Genre, Author, etc. and play them at your will.

    * View the Tag information of your MP3 and WMA music files while playing them.

    * Put your entire video collection and even links to your favorite videos from sites like YouTube at one location and play them whenever you like.

    * Select and organize your Pictures according to their Albums and keep them neatly in a single Category or multiple Categories and show them to your Friends one by one.

    * Open Folders from your computer or other Network Locations instantly by placing them in SideWinder.

    * Get immediate access to Internal & External Hard Drives, USB Pen Drives, Camera Folders and other Removable Media whenever they’re available on your PC.

    * Automate windows Shutdown, Restart and other process processes with the built-in Timer.

    * Fill entire Web Forms at once using SideWinder’s Text-Snippet feature.

Sidewinder is highly configurable and increases productivity by saving countless keystrokes. With this solid application launcher at your side, you’ll find easily your way to fast open applications and more.

Next test is Genie Timeline.

So, barney, what do you have to say about Genie Timeline?
The Home version is today's offer on giveawayoftheday...

Of course TI 2011 is in beta already!

-and with at least one big improvement on the way:

Acronis Nonstop Backup's capabilities have been expanded in this version to protecting individual files and folders. In 2010 version of the application this feature you can instruct it to protect entire partitions only, whereas the beta introduces the possibility to select files and folders as well. Additionally, now Secure Zone can be used as a storage location for Acronis Nonstop Backup.
(...)
... the scheduler received its share of attention from the developer also and has been re-drawn to support wake up system when in sleep or hibernate mode for backup purposes.

General Software Discussion / Re: SUPER© converter download link
« Last post by Curt on July 20, 2010, 12:16 PM »
-you're right, mouser. It took me many bad conversions to figure out what to do, and what not to do. Maybe the biggest step forward came when I 'learned' to use the right-click function.

I guess SUPER came to me in a (short) period of my life when I had a little more patience, than I have now!  ;D

I was surprised not to see a bunch of (obvious) feature options, in XYplorer. So, if I don't care to learn some scripting, I might not be satisfied with XYplorer. Is that it?

General Software Discussion / SUPER© converter download link
« Last post by Curt on July 19, 2010, 09:42 AM »
I realized my own version of SUPER was getting old, so I thought it was time to update an easy-to-find link for downloading the newest version (from Major Geeks). For people who don't want to spend the rest of the month searching the idiotic eRightSoft site for the SUPER setup file.

Super 2010 Build 38: http://majorgeeks.com/Super_d5117.html
- the first download link is the *slowest*.

Edited:
anyway, i go to FileHippo.com to download it.. • http://www.filehippo.com/download_super/

SUPER © Universal Player Encoder & Renderer. A GUI  to ffmpeg, mencoder, mplayer, x264, mppenc, ffmpeg2theora & the theora/vorbis RealProducer plugIn.

If you need a simple, yet very efficient tool to convert (encode) or play any Multimedia file, without reading manuals or spending long hours training, then SUPER © is all you need. It is a Multimedia Encoder and a Multimedia Player, easy-to-use with 1 simple click.

SUPER © is totally FREE to download and to use. It plays & converts very fast full length movies to any other format with NO time limitation.

SUPER © can also play and save Internet Media Streams with different protocols like: mms:// rtsp:// http://
edit: added the "©" to the title

Wow - unless you have a friend like Curt, you may need to be prepared to make several guesses for your discount...

I wonder if this quiz for a discount might end up frustrating more people than making happy new customers?

I took the offer on XYplorer. But the thing won't register. I have followed the procedure very carefully. Did you try this? (yeah; I can hear you now: "is he asking if I ever have tried to follow the procedure?" No, I mean, did you try XYplorer not registering?!!) I have of course mailed the author, but so far he just mailed me the procedures again.
 :tellme:

Edit:
It turns out the first auto-generated key was wrong. Mystery solved!

Hi Curt,

just to explain what happened: You were the very first user who took the "grass-offer", and since this was my first promotion ever of this type, I promptly made a little mistake when setting up the discount generating order form. :) The generations coming after you will profit from your pioneering experience. ;)

Enjoy the app,
Don
-Don from XYplorer

I was the first to take offer!! Why? Is it that mwb1100 was right, that people don't care to solve the mystery, "just" to save $35?? Hmm.. If people don't come to our forum, to get the answer, member DonL might not sell too many XYplorers, via this offer!

To me, Endless Slideshow Screensaver Pro is the coolest screensaver. It doesn't show any fancy figures. In fact it doesn't show any figures at all. And that is the way I want it to be. It will merely show my collection of pictures. And that is why I have the pictures in the first place: to look at them.

They are still funny, those guys at Corel's. Today I have been offered to purchase a license for this CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X5 for € 718.80 including a "free" Powerstick worth € 40. When I went to the program's homepage, I was offered to have X5 without the Powerstick for € 634.80 !!!

You do the math. I can't.

Lincoln's Collected Works are available at http://www.hti.umich.edu/l/lincoln

The quote was not from Uncle Tom's Cabin, but from Edward Josiah Stearns' book with the full title "Notes On Uncle Tom's Cabin: Being A Logical Answer To Its Allegations And Inferences Against Slavery As An Institution". The quoted words are Mr Stearns' comment on a problem he has with Madame Stowe's apparent opinion.
3995
If you call a tail a leg, how many legs has a dog? Five? No, calling a tail a leg don't make it a leg.   - Abraham Lincoln

The quote is kind of right, but it was not said by Lincoln.
(and if he had said it, I imagine he would have used the proper doesn't...)

Edward Josiah Stears' Notes on Uncle Tom's Cabin (1853) p. 46:

'"Father," said one of the rising generation to his paternal progenitor, "if I should call this cow's tail a leg, how many legs would she have?" "Why five, to be sure." "Why, no, father; would calling it a leg make it one?"
-Edward Josiah Stears

General Software Discussion / Re: cannot play ripped music files
« Last post by Curt on July 13, 2010, 01:52 AM »
I am wondering why this thread didn't change into "how to remove drm"? There are plenty of programs to do it, just make your choice; they were basically all made by the same one or two programmers...

There are no freewares in this niche, as far as I know. DrmRemoval's "Unlimited" versions will both rip from CD and remove DRM in the same move. You can freely test them for 30 seconds of each track.

Drm-Removal editions comparison chart: http://drm-removal.c...atest_DrmRemoval.htm

Edited: Sorry, I was babbling. I forgot the first premise; that your new computer doesn't have the necessary license.

General Software Discussion / Re: print listing of music titles
« Last post by Curt on July 12, 2010, 10:29 AM »
no i haven't bothered to learn about tags yet so I don't use them,

I didn't know it even was possible to record CDs WITHOUT tagging! If you use the default player to handle the recording of the CD, it will automatically tag the files (at least if you save in .wma or .mp3). Explorer will display the tags in "details"-view:

tags2010-07-12_180510-855.png

edited If Explorer only is showing the filenames, you will have to first right-click the "name-bar" and make your choices:

r-click2010-07-12_181835-856.png

Most of these informations are purely based on the tags that Windows Media Player automatically has coded the files with.
