I played about 5 of those games, then lost interest. In a way I liked the previous theme more, "Alone".

But of course this was about the time limit AND the theme. I have no idea what I would do with the theme of Small World even if I had a Coder.

As for sending, I rarely send an actual file attachment, just an email with a link to the file saved in Gdocs.
I think - but am not sure - that Gdrive could help to make this easier to do. Still experimenting with it though.

I dunno, I trust a nice honest email with an attachment more than "some ethereal link to the Cloud". I am sensitive to Cloud Lock-in, it feels like that Arnold S. movie on Mars where they started charging for Air. I just need to ditch the emails from 2007-2009 and then I'll be okay. Save, Save Attachments, then file them.

I think I have over 160,000 in my total box. I inherited a colleague's email box as part of the total. Wheeee!   ;D :D

Edit: (Iain says:) " Fortunately I don't get too many such emails."

Heh 40% of my emails have attachments! : )
"If it doesn't have an attachment one of you two isn't working hard enough" - Me just now   :P

Ok. I fixed the error. You can DL from the update my website. It's not very well done, but I really don't have any other place to put my stuff other than on dropbox. I don't have the money to buy space anywhere. The best I have is a free 100 mb site that I was given which is not enough and a registered domain that I may not be able to keep up with when it runs out, so DB will have to do.

On a different topic, except for 7 clicks difference, why wouldn't you post updates here? Don't DC members get space?

Then allow me to remark that one of my minor specialties is in Free Web Hosting. I can basically get you a 1 Gig site for free. I ran a 18 month study of free hosts and using my own special criteria I selected about 2-4 hosts that I am "certifying" for new users. PM me if you want details, but don't let either 100 megs or paying be a problem.

Hmm. Thank you for the nice response!

I currently have 85 items on my desktop. They're laid out in thematic semi-conceptual groupings spaced visually across the desktop in mixes of rows and columns, with several strays.

Some 60 of those are folders. So if those folders are already "1-click" I'm still lost what Spinter does for me - I would need to spend a lot of work encoding all those items and I'm not even sure what background would make sense except MAYBE the Tron Legacy ones.

But Lemme say this, a few threads back, I bewailed "what hath become of innovation", I'll give you the chops for innovating. My (semi) deal is this: Lemme think, on something you can implement with less than 15,000 hours of effort, that feel useful to me.

/Quick Ruthlessly Ugly App/Feature: Just Click randomly on your desktop and start typing a memo, your choice of font size and color, but not "encased" in anything, with ability to maybe Hide/Show and move it around so when you move your folders around you move your text memos. Edit: Double Click to Hide - Show. When it "Hides" it becomes one of those little Splotchy things.

NSFW: (Am I the only one that moves my icons to accomodate a nice busty babe as wallpaper!?  8)    )

Apparently the Linux kernel can behave very strangely when it is enabled. Most forums I visited with regards to errors I experienced always told me to disable ACPI. For some chipsets it works, but with most it just introduces erratic behavior that drives you insane.
I don't even know what that means and why it matters! Care to help?

P.S. Where's our mascot Superboy to help carry the torch?
3809
You're awesome, but we'll see.

Heh I have 87,000 messages in my *sent* box. Sky knows how many total! : )

Okay I see it now. Tip. If I just try to "close" the settings box instead of "cancel" I get Runtime Error 2 at line 355.

New problem: Failure of Utility-Imagination.
I'm a utilitarian at heart. So I'm stuck trying to decide what this does for me (besides fun eye candy!) this does for me better than the usual windows icons on a desktop. I tend to work on a flat black background, so I don't use wallpaper flippers.

Edit: But then I'm a boring old pest not worthy of your vision. :/

Oho! Round 1 to the Developer! (Curses! Foiled!)
Feature tip: First Run Dialog box!

Okay, lessee...

3813
Iain you're smarter than this ol' sharp marble, so I dunno if I'll actually get around to doing that : )
3814
I can delete them as is, I'd miss the searchability. I wish there was an app for "download all the attachments, print the email text itself to a PDF, throw all that into a folder".

(Insert Melodramatic music here)
1. Install.
2. Get nice blue Orb-y desktop icon.
3. Double Click Icon.
4. Nothing at all happens.

Aka yes, completely fails to launch.

I have also, never had it, nor heard of it ever crashing on XP or 7.

Except sorry, it doesn't run on my copy of XP either! :(

But then people have been telling me my machine is haunted/zombied. That's where my self appointed handle came from. ("Resident Pest")

Living Room / Re: Blog comments - On of off?
« Last post by TaoPhoenix on May 04, 2012, 05:45 PM »
I'm kinda ambivalent on this one.

On the one (1) hand, blog comments can engender some pretty lively conversations, trolls aside .  On the other hand, would blog comments detract from the forum topics ?

Right now, I can search the forum topics, albeit in mine own clumsy fashion, and be reasonably certain I've covered whatever 'twas I sought.  If comments are enabled, now I have to search the blog articles, as well, and try to merge those results with the forum results.  Keeping the timeline accurate could be somewhat difficult - read nightmare - to accomplish  :o.

I guess I'd say, "No," to blog comments unless some methodology exists to merge them into forum conversations.

(Granted, I'm thinking of a DC blog, not blogs in general, but from what I've seen - in my own blog, as well as others - some degree of fragmentation and focus attenuation tends to occur, with comment references to other blog posts that are not directly quoted.  This dilution seems to happen to a lesser degree in forae.  (Well-l-l, depending upon how much I've had to drink  :P.))

I'll suggest that the whole topic says "comments" and not "blog comments where the site also has a forum".

Either way, the comments on an article are ... hopefully ... related to that article. Forum topics tend to be more loosely created.

Wow. Rules 34 and 61 fulfilled. :o

(Has to look up Rule 61) Haha! Duck on Cat Action then?

Edit: was this done through a generator script? Looking at both versions reads like a madlib program.

At one point it quit finding new messages at all. And 90% of the ones it did had only 1.3 megs. And "No, 235 * 1.3 megs is still piddly."

I send scanned contracts all the time, they're always 10 megs, doesn't mean I want to delete that email.

Heh my work email box is 25 gigs at 96% full.  : )

An OpenSUSE-KDE combo runs different programs than a Debian-SUSE combo.
Except for the package management system: Why?

Okay, maybe it's my newbieness talking, but I assumed that Suse programs couldn't run on Debian.
