Thread ancienne :-)
but it helped me quickly find a colour picker that showed RGB amounts - I used Veign's Pixeur

They left out my favorite: Fluid Studios Color Picker 2.5 PaulNettle.com

It also comes with a DLL and api for using it in your own apps.

I see that this has been recently updated with a 64-bit version, looks good - see screenshot in quoted post for capabilities. (And it's portable )

Many thanks

This was helpful to me this evening, thanks!

I'm not sure if this below intentional - it confused me initially but only on first use:

I paste a column of numbers.
Prepend "F"
Numbers show in lower pane as F1234 etc

When I press the button "Copy output to input", input is now is as desired, but output gets a double-F prefix: FF1234

Screenshot - 2014-03-08 , 02_11_35.png

Note: this was no problem for me, just reporting in case it unintended behaviour.

In fairness, I was the one to spark the controversy with my dodgy (but insistent) memory, and my loose tongue ;-)
I wrote this below earlier, but JonPotter got in ahead of me so I left it. I'll chance posting it now, slightly modified:

It's not about payola.  It's about realizing that one hasty word can make those conversations a lot more difficult, so we need to be cautious about realizing that there are definitely ramifications about saying things that may or may not be true.  And it's not about being bought and paid for- we still tell the truth.

yes, this it it for me -
summed up by "It's about realizing that one hasty word can make those conversations a lot more difficult".
Just like in real life - and that's the thing it's easy to forget when you get in a rant about something online, this is real life too :-[
And that's why I apologised straight away - not just that I hadn't checked the details - but that I realised I had said it in such an obnoxious way that it was pretty unreasonable, and understandable if it got a knee-jerk response.

And FWIW katykaty sums up my attitude to Dopus:

But then again, it's DO. Got to have DO. Can't not have DO :)

I'll leave it at that.

^I'll look up the details wraith. I'll put the post above in spoilers.

I'm sorry for using that word - I'm sorry to the Dopus developers, and sorry to you all here if I'm muddying the relationship(s).

To the developers, I wish to point out that I am a fan of dopus - and have made many positive posts here about it and many posts helping others with it's use. Obviously that doesnt excuse me if I make an incorrect statement. How I feel in response to something is obviously just how it is - but (obviously again) it's not a helpful approach to a complaint to express it thus.

... well, can I finally shrinken the giant DO toolbars in v11?

  ?!
Toolbars are totally customisable, and have been since at least version 8

or were you using the beta and unable to customise the toolbars in that?

Well, the new major versions aren't released that often, and there are alot of updates (and beta's) inbetween.

yes, that's a very good point myarmor,
but:
the few months (as Josh describes) still just does not lead to good feelings that one likes to have about one of their favourite software.

Spoiler
I removed the rest of this post - I was bitching about something related to upgrade pricing which appears to be untrue.

It does look good - I'd probably upgrade for the interface improvments alone.

Spoiler
I made a complaint here about the upgrade price being reduced to 10% reduction after a few months (with the last upgrade). Dopus developers have taken offence [1] to the way it was expressed and [2] say it isnt true. Because of that I'm removing it. I am sorry about the way it was expressed, and tbh, I'm sorry I wrote/posted it at all - see also reply #18 below. Re the details - maybe they were wrong, I honestly thought they were correct as I remembered.

General Software Discussion / Re: Are Tables Required Or Not?
« Last post by tomos on March 02, 2014, 02:46 AM »
Tables are, as you say, limited. They're very limited in fact.
An outline within a table offers more possibilities.

Following up on what dr_andus described as an IM "that is strong with tables".

Think outline, tables, the possibility to show items in multiple locations, filtering, etc. etc.
Think of a family shown in an outline, children will be shown under each parent and parents will be shown under grandparents.

Screenshot - 2014-03-02 , 09_31_57.png

or,
every person can be shown at the top level, with children as, eh, child items, which means many people are shown multiple times.

Screenshot - 2014-03-02 , 09_13_34.png

This is using InfoQube. It is very powerful - I'm only a basic user myself, I struggle myself sometimes with e.g. the hierarchy/display options. What I'm trying to say is: that strength comes with a highish-learning-curve price.) Basic filtering is easy, very complex filtering is possible but not (yet) easy.

I linked spouses to each other. You could also create other subitems, related to each character and choose to show these or not. There is also a HTML pane where you can add further text (tables even!), etc, etc.

If you open Spider Oak on your Desktop, you then go to the View tab then find the folder you want, you'll see a small arrow and if you click that you'll find the versions (if you have changed the file) in brackets!

Then if you click on the file you'll see them listed as per my 2nd pic...
[...]
Hope this helps!

thanks CleverCat!
unfortunately it doesnt look like that here (Win7 x64, no files show). But Spider Oak was acting a little funny this session - I'll see if it's working after a reboot later today.
If not I'll contact SpiderOak about it,
thanks again

General Software Discussion / Re: Are Tables Required Or Not?

[edit]
My primary purpose for using tables is to arrange data in numerous grids of related and structured information in order to evaluate different related entities.  I do this so various items can be compared as to determine the "best" choice.  Once I have made a decision the table serves as a referential repository.  It is not uncommon for me to edit the tables numerous times a month.  You might call my grids, "Living Tables."  I hardly ever store data in any other form.  As an example, I use a table to create characters for my fiction.  Each row is a character with the columns being criteria of the character's person (eye color, hair color, build, temperament, etc).  This allows for great checking and cross-referencing of the necessary conflicting attitudes and temperaments which allows those wonderful dramatic tensions.
[/edit]

I think a database type IM might be what you need here. You can create fields/columns for the different attributes. But you would have many advantages over simple tables:
you could e.g. have sub-items/hierarchy under each character with related ideas
you can give items multiple parents i.e. show in multiple locations
sorting can be a lot easier than with tables, although this might not be an advantage if writing within the "table"

Worth checking out this thread too: For Serious Research: Cadillac of "ClipBoard Managers" vs. "Info/Data Manager". There are other ideas there that may well suit better.

I didnt even realise (or had forgotten) that Spider Oak keeps older versions.

According to this help pdf:

Historical Versions
[...]
3: Documents that have historical versions saved will be followed by a number in paren-
theses which indicates how many historical versions SpiderOak has saved For example:
file.doc (3)
-
now I'm confused:

1) when I look (online) I see the files backed up (and up-to-date) - but none of them have a number in brackets after them - even though I've been working intensively on some of them lately.
2) I cant even see my files locally in the installed software - I can only see folders...

I've looked through preferences and find no reference to historical versions. I will have to have a closer look at their help files.

I'm not relying on SpiderOak for this, but OTOH it's no harm having it.

I think you'd be better off using an Information Manager e.g. one where you can simply link to videos; and expand the outline to see what has linked content and what is still 'empty'.
