Curt,
I've only skimmed this thread, so I might have missed this suggestion elsewhere.  Have you tried installing Xnview (link)?

I used to correspond with a friend who, like you, was given to paronomasia... we were pun pals  :)

Looks interesting, Curt. Thanks for pointing it out.

This might be just what I need in light of a recent request from my wife.
She would prefer me to pitch my singing altogether.

From what I read, systems with nVidia graphics suffer most (but it's not exclusive to those). The one system of mine that suffers from this does have nVidia graphics (same issue with different versions of the drivers).

I don't much care about this and won't be surprised if some other, subsequent, update slides in an unheralded (or serendipitous) fix.

Despite all our gnashing of teeth and rending of garments, I'm continually amazed that modern O/Ss can sustain so many and such varied systems.

Two snowmen are standing in a field. One turns to the other and says
"That's funny, I smell carrots too!"

And the third snowman said "I can't smell anything, I haven't got my carotin"

There's a huge pin outside in my backyard?  :o

This entire map thing is just a pin in the grass!

SP3 has some issues with screensavers.  For many they just won't kick in and the screens won't power off.

I found this was happening on one of my machines and went looking, only to find that I'm not alone.
(It's only a minor annoyance, plenty of ways around it.)

According to my first attempt I had been cast adrift on the South Atlantic. Later I was marooned on Greenland.
Now I'm somewhat closer to home.

Nice to see you here, Graham.

Looking forward to some software from you.

Do you like Kipling?
I do, but I haven't Kipled for a while -- it's Rudyard to do.

Do you change with age?

Hoping for some relief? Only for the worse, I fear  ;)

That system wouldn't by any chance have been engineered and built by British-Leland would it?  :tellme:
Nope, but a lot of them read the WSJ!

FWIW I just used this Antec case which has the benefit of a half-decent power supply and attention to noise reduction. I found its options for fan placement to be quite good.

Some motherboard bioses, in combination with other hardware installed on your pc (most notably graphics cards), will find themselves unable to access even 4gb except when using a 64bit OS.
-mouser

And, for those of us without in-depth knowledge of the issue, it's very hard to tell in advance what combination will or will not work.
The mobo that I recently installed has an entry on the ASUS site warning that more than 3Gb RAM will likely result in LESS than 3Gb being recognized (ASUS P5E3 Premium).

After some deliberation, I decided that was a CYA disclaimer and went ahead with 4Gb... and I was lucky, it can see the typical 3Gb+.
There was a feeling of unease, though, as I did have to make that choice in the knowledge that I might need to buy a different mobo if the P5E3 didn't work out. Nobody that I found was able to give a firm assurance that this board would act as I wanted.

Looks as if mouser has thwarted that one...

I'm a long-time user of Adobe Type Manager.
ATM is showing its age a bit.

When I switched to my current machine a month or two back I installed only MainType for font management (2.1.1 in my case).
FWIW I can't fault it.

Another candidate is Extensis Suitcase. Page is here
Suitcase helpfully installs plug-ins for. e.g. Adobe suite applications.
I find that if I don't have Suitcase running the helpers (helpfully) point out that fact.
Although that's really a benefit, (essential, really, for serious stuff) I find it slightly annoying.
That's not because of anything that Suitcase does but simply due to the fact that it's another reminder that I'm as dumb as a telegraph pole.

I haven't found a free FM that does exactly what I want, nor have I looked at all of them.

Fortunately, I don't need to do that. My dog handles the keyboard drooling round here.
