Different resolutions on monitors isn't a problem, but having one monitor set to a different TEXT SCALING option than other is.

I'm confused now if people are reporting that this is happening with new version but ALSO with old version? So we are saying this problem has always been there for you folks?

Have I broken this feature with my latest release?

This is a know weird issue that can happen if dpi settings aren't handled just right in the program and I did recently make some DPI changes to SC...

But I thought I tested it..

The main question is, did previous versions work ok?

Do you have different text scaling set for each monitor?

As of today, when I choose the option to grab selected region, the images on my monitors increase greatly in size and overlap the monitor borders.
Any ideas how to fix?

Ok I have a guess about the nature of the problem -- I seem to remember an issue that happens when you have different dpi scales set on different monitors.  That is one monitor will have > 100% text size, and another monitor different..

They should be active automatically.
You can see if a plugin is running and what keyword to use to trigger it by going to the "External Tools and Plugins" tab of options and then click on the "Click to Examine and Configure Plugins".

Other screenshot apps (just tried Snipping Tool) do not suffer from the same issue.

That is very surprising to me.. I'm at a bit of a loss to explain how that could happen.

To confirm -- you are saying that SC works fine except sometimes when your laptop docks and undocks -- and that when this malfunction happens, even exiting and restarting SC doesn't help, and other screenshot tools are not effected by this problem..

Can anyone else say whether they have seen such a problem?

Can you see if other screenshot apps suffer the same problem?  I would not be surprised if they do?

Here is another thing to test:

Wait until the problem shows itself again -- try going into your screen resolution options manually and changing the resolution to anything, and hit Apply.  Then change them back.  See if SC works properly and recognizes the correct resolution.   If so, then there may be a simpler fix that could automatically apply a temporary resolution change that will force windows to properly broadcast the new resolution to running programs.

New update of the SMF forum (2.0.14) came out today.  I've upgraded us.
Let me know if you notice anything broken.

One major change for this version is a new image proxy which will try to cache remote images that are non-https on the local server so that they can be served up via https when the user is using that method.  It may result in a broken image link until you hit F5 to reload, the first time an image is viewed..

Is it possible the screenshot is happening right BEFORE the menu is displayed?
That is, if you have it take a screenshot every 1 second, do you then get the capture of the menu?

It may be that the Active window capture is getting confused when a menu is the focus, thinking its an active window of some sort but getting the size wrong?

I concur with your plan -- we need to find a small repeatable test that I can reproduce.

Welcome Asimuz, and thank you for the kind comments.

There are a bunch of options to help you minimize the size of the Quick Capture bar -- see the preferences tab labeled "Quick Bar and Post Cap"  -- the top half of that is all about removing stuff and making it smaller.

Now as for your idea to just use a mouse to do the captures.. I might revisit that when I overall the hotkey settings sytem to allow more flexibility there.
BUT, in the meantime, what you probably could do is find a 3rd party mouse "gesture" type program that lets you trigger certain hotkeys when you do certain things with the mouse.
Perhaps others can recommend such a tool.  And do let us know if you find one that does what you need!

The only reason FARR wouldn't show your new shortcuts and bat files would be if they aren't located in one of the folders that FARR searches.  You can edit that folder list in the options.

You may have found a bug.  If you launch it from FARR while it is still running (in the tray for example) then it probably should rescan everything and show everything again.  So if it's not that could be considered a bug.
So first step is to figure out if the problem you describe is indeed caused by DCUpdater being already running when you launch it the second time.

It's an interesting question -- it might seem like an obvious thing to want to do but currently FARR doesn't really have a way to minimize-during-searching.  It assumes that when you want it to "go away" you are done searching.

Let me explain why FARR doesn't "want" to minimize during searching -- it's because FARR was never designed to be used to perform searches that take a LONG time.  It's whole purpose in life is to be used to find things very quickly.

What this means is that FARR is rarely the only file searching program you will need.  You should have a good all purpose file searcher for those times when you need to conduct long searches and filter by file size, date, etc.  There are some good ones -- like Agent Ransack and some good commercial file searchers.

I will take a look into adding this functionality, but let me encourage you to consider limiting FARR to searching for things that can be found very quickly -- like executable programs to launch or for your normal work documents, and use a different program for very long involved searches.

Let me check out the code and see what might be causing your issue.

It's likely that it's related to the DcUpdater functionality that purposely only shows certain items if it's invoked and told to explicitly only scan a certain folder.

This happens all the time when you do an update check FOR/FROM A SPECIFIC PROGRAM.
So for example, if you are in FARR and ask FARR to check for updates, it will invoke DCUPDATER and tell it to only look in the FARR folder for updatable stuff, and hide the rest.

So it sounds like what's happening to you is that on your second call it is maybe restricting itself to items in a specific folder?


Can you clarify -- you say when you "re-ran" it.. Can you check next time that DcUpdater isn't already running in the tray when you "re-run" it?  I'm trying to understand how it could be that using the same button to run it both times, with it not being running either time, could show different results.

You can already customize which buttons to show on the toolbar -- see the "More Interface Options" tab -- I just have to add a few more buttons to do some of the special fx functions.
Yes I will add those 2.  If anyone has more requests for buttons they would like to put on toolbar let me know.
