And also any problems you might have because english is not your native language and you don't understand some text in one of our programs or on our web pages.

If you don't speak english well, please feel free to ask your question in your native language and someone at the forum will try to translate it for us.

Activation/License/Language Help / Translators Wanted
« Last post by mouser on August 19, 2005, 03:52 PM »
I'd like to start a thread where people capable of translating small amounts of english text into other languages could indicate their willingness to help out with such translations?

I'm not talking about big jobs like full help files, i'm thinking more like a few critical web pages, and maybe some of key text in our programs.  I especially want to make sure that the people who come to the site to retrieve a freeware license don't end up frustrated with the process.

If you'd be willing to help out please make a follow-up post here stating which languages you feel comfortable in translating to, or email me directly if you prefer ([email protected]).

my column today discusses some of the issues about the new license key idea.

ok let me think about improving resize - you are probably right about it being clearer if there was another dialog.
only one question, in your dialog if i say 20 pixels, and check left and right, does it add 20 pixels to left and 20 pixels to right? or 10+10?

ah i see you were meaning a macro for the border stuff - maybe a macro would be easier.. i will think about it.

Screenshot Captor / Re: Request: Auto print
« Last post by mouser on August 19, 2005, 10:22 AM »
ok i will add that.

great idea about saving filename directory - very in keeping with the screenshot captor approach which is designed to let you rename stuff.
also its a very clever idea also as a way of automatically saving files in subdirectories.

the only problem i see is the file browser - should it change to the directory where you save the file? and then you wouldn't see other screenshots in the main directory..  but if you don't change to the new directory, then the program migh have a hard time keeping track of what file you are working on since it wouldn't be visible.. i think i would have to make it change directories - but then the user might get lost and not know how to get back.

perhaps the MoveTo menu needs to somehow support both moving files to certain directories and also switching to certain directories? not sure how it should present that option to the user.

great work hydreux!

new version up
v1.01.32 - 8/18/05
added info messages to tell user they need to select a region before some tools
eliminated annoying slowness and flicker when selecting multiple files in file browser
save-all hotkey changed from Ctrl+A to Ctrl+E to avoid browser select-all conflict
removed flicker on file loading
added resize toolbar button
added options to resize, including toggle for expanding canvas

stefan, i think i will add a new dialog with next version that is like an all-in-one border thing, where you can set 2 borders and a custom shadow, like what you are suggesting, for people to make like custom frame appearance without having to go to the options.

Finished Programs / Re: DONE - IDEA: fun quotes tray tool
« Last post by mouser on August 18, 2005, 11:53 AM »
thats really odd - doesnt seem to happen here..

the first quote it shows is when you double click the tray icon, and then
you're clicking OK in the message box and as soon as you do it shows another quote?

i know that if you click repeatedly on the icon it will show a bunch of overlapping quotes, but shouldnt do that if you click OK.
i really should just replace this messagebox with a proper dialog to make it easier to see more - i will do this on the next coding snack day,
so the bug will get fixed then for sure, but it's still very strange behavior..

well, in all fairness the original post does seem to have a political intention. the last line (which is probably not from randiroo i'm guessing, but from the original poster) says "So, how much of this Judge's comments did we hear on our TV sets? We need more judges like Judge Young, but that's another subject. Pass this around. Everyone should and needs to hear what this fine judge had to say. Powerful words that strike home." so clearly the point of highlighting this judges comments was not to spread the news about the trial but about the judges speech at the trial.

Screenshot Captor / Re: inquiry: kind of macro ?
« Last post by mouser on August 18, 2005, 09:31 AM »
it would be a bit of work to implement a macro facility -

what i think might be a better approach is, download the free and powerful ImageMagick program and make tools for it, and add the tools to the Tool Menu.

« Last post by mouser on August 18, 2005, 09:29 AM »
carol, that's exactly the idea, user will be able to add their own collection of stamps, etc.  i'm just thinking to include a basic set at the start.

stefan, great idea - i will add this.

we should probably remember, screenshot captor was made to make it easy to configure external tools and especially a graphics editor as a button, and its designed to automatically detect when you've edited the file in an external graphics editor, so we should probably not try to duplicate so many functions of a real editor program, and instead encourage user to use a real one in conjunction with screenshot captor.

but small simlple features like this are very good ideas.  i will add a canvas size increaser dialog in next version.

the real question we need to ask is what word processor did the judge use to write his speech on?

hi randiroo - fair enough - in fact the post does not take an overt political position.
the words of the judge do seem to echo some of the reasoning that the bush administation has been using for a long time "We Americans are all about freedom - you hate our freedom", which many people think is a dangerous simplification of the problem.
but then i've seen people on the left using this trial as an example of the fact that our legal system can handle terrorism trials and does not need extra-judicial system for dealing with terrorists.

in the current climate its probably not possible to post anything even remotely political or about war or terrorism and not stir up a hornets nest of partisan arguments..

i don't think we have to be so paranoid on this forum as to avoid all controversy, as long as everyone knows that this is not going to be a place for frequent political arguments.

yes - im trying to figure out a way so you can always move and edit the object.
dingbat fonts sounds like a good idea.
being able to insert cursors - also very good idea.
i will try to implement both.

thanks for link to handysnap - i will add it to help file.

anyone who knows me knows i like talking politics, but this forum is probably not the place for it (except when it comes to the politics of selling software).

since we've have point and counter point here i'm going to ask that we not get into political debate here.  i'll leave the thread open in case people feel need to vent, but i suggest we keep politics off this board.

if anyone wants to post some links to forums where political debate is welcome, please do.

Create New Folder item in menu.

same url as above.

great points -

hiding text and info:
right now there one might use blur to block out selected text, but a nice filled box would be useful too.

Also an text marker function would be welcome (percentage transparently ???).
I mean i like e.g. an light yellow color over an part of my shot,
like i mark an text in an book
yes this is definitely need - a nice yellow semi-transparent "highlighting"

an zoom of the selected region would be nice.
yes i was thinking this as well - i think i will try to do it - i don't know if it will look good.

yes, you have my idea about moveto menu correct - i think it will be useful.
create new folder option i will add, good idea.

i'll try to get the patches integrated this weekend.

i find myself frequently wanting to move the current set of files in the screenshot directory to another directory, like an "Old" directory, just to get them out of the way.

i was thinking of adding a "Move" menu, where you could add custom folders to it and then easily just choose a dir from the Move menu to move all current (or selected) images to that folder.  just a quick way to move screenshots to common places.

anyone have any suggestions about this before i implement?
