Reminds me of the title of an old Judas Priest tune, "Never Satisfied". Different context though.

Also reminds me of a Beatles tune:

The boss said, "A guy came in here to buy a fish hook, and you sold him A BOAT AND A TRUCK?!?"

The kid says, " No, he came in here to buy a box of tampons for his wife and I said, 'Well, your weekend's shot, you might as well go fishing.....'!"

ROFL! ;D

That was excellent~!

Living Room / Nokia 3D Case Printing Kit
« Last post by Renegade on February 05, 2013, 07:10 AM »
You rarely ever hear any good news from Tech Dirt, but here's a fun little piece:

http://www.techdirt....wn-phone-cases.shtml

Nokia Releases 3D Printing Kit For Anyone To Print Their Own Phone Cases
from the smart-move dept

While Nokia has quickly become an afterthought in the high-end phone world after being such a dominant player for so long, it's been trying to make a comeback lately. My friend Tom recently sent over an interesting move that Nokia made: releasing its own 3D printing kit for anyone who wants to print cases for their flagship Lumia 820, that goes beyond merely the printing templates:

...we are going to release 3D templates, case specs, recommended materials and best practices—everything someone versed in 3D printing needs to print their own custom Lumia 820 case.

That's definitely +1 for Nokia in the "cool" department! :D

Living Room / Re: In Need of Searchable Database For a Card Shop
« Last post by Renegade on February 05, 2013, 04:40 AM »
This problem has been solved at least a million times. Stop thinking about "cards" and just think about "products". Then just look for some kind of ecommerce or shopping cart or gallery script/application and you're 90% done.

There are lots of scripting sites out there for PHP or Perl or ASP.NET or RoR or whatever language you want to use, and each one has lots of solutions for this problem.

The question is how big of a solution do you want? Browse around and you'll see them. Try "hotscripts" or "programmer's paradise" as they have lots of things like that.

Reminds me of a paper by an oft talked about author, though virtually nobody ever even reads his paper, much less understands anything in it. He has some interesting things to say:

https://duckduckgo.c...ciety+and+its+future

It hits this topic head on. With a 2x4. Really hard. Repetitively. :P

FWIW - It's an excellent read. I'm not saying that it's gospel truth or anything - just that it is a good read. (Gotta get that in before someone reads too much into things...)

That all depends on if they are any good at raking the lawn. ;)

Curt, it goes without saying that, no matter what you end up using, you're probably only going to get accurate results of your bandwidth usage if you can measure data usage on your router (or whatever gateway device you use).  You know what I mean?

skwire's absolutely correct there. Tools on your computer will measure traffic from the computer, e.g. if you have a NAS and store data there (or on another computer, etc.), that would count as well, so you'd not be getting just the WAN data transfers.

« Last post by Renegade on February 03, 2013, 07:24 PM »
You could take an inventory of the limited variety at the local supermarkets then just get what's not there.

There are many different varieties of pretty much everything. Carrots used to be mostly purple. So, you *could* consider those less known varieties as rare, and many will still be indigenous to where you live. But, I suppose a lot of people would just call those "heirloom" varieties.

A lot of video players have this already built in. Just check the docs. Look for "sync" or something similar.

Living Room / Re: Global Warming & Statistics
« Last post by Renegade on February 03, 2013, 09:42 AM »
What I find most frustrating in the "debate", though, is the lack of ... debate.

Debate isn't profitable. "Shut up and pay your carbon taxes" on the other hand is quite lucrative. :D

unfortunately it's another of those {"I'm for" \ "I'm against" \ "You're a plonker"} kind of 'debates' which, even just at the level of whether it's happening, is no debate at all.

Yep. And if you have any questions, you're a heretic. Because you're questioning a religious dogma.

I think the thing we have to most careful of is abuse and corruption - on any side e.g. it seems clear the idea of global warming is being abused for profit.

Follow the money. On both sides.

Dunno about other people, but when someone starts jumping up and down screaming about how I need to do this and I must do that, and somehow that ends up filling buddy's pockets? I start to get a bit skeptical. (Goes for all sides of the "issue/debate/non-debate/dogma/whatever".)

What about this?  ;D

Good grief!

But, I really have no desire to be a peeping Tom spying on ants mating on the next continent over... or Venutians or Martians for that matter~! :D

Well, that and I don't have a gantry crane and 40-wheeler to transport/use it!

And I have a Nikon... :P ;D

That's one BIG lens! ;D

Good info there CWuestefeld.  I'd say one more reason that Canon and Nikon dominate the conversation- lens compatibility.  This lets you get better deals on the lenses, which as I've found out from my wife's purchases are the big investment.

May I stir up some gear-lust?

It's funny how "fair" is always defined 1-sidedly. That doesn't seem "fair" now, does it? ;)

There's a bandwidth meter that's been mentioned in this forum. I had it on my last Windows install, but forgot the name of it... NETMETER!

Check here:

That will work for 1 machine, but not your whole network. It might help some.

Tables, shelves, and a bar... Sounds like a typical watering hole to me. Perhaps "Ye Olde Tyme Tavern of Yore" should close up shop now before they get sued. :P

Next in the news... Sesame Street patents the letters D, U, M, B, and the number 3.

Haven't done much Mobile Apps beside iOS recently, but IIRC, it was less a pain to debugging with XCode than with Eclipse for Android / BlackBerry.

Interesting. Last I used Xcode was a while ago, and it really left a foul taste in my mouth. But they have updated some -- could be worth a look at again. (I was really excited when I got my Mac and pumped up to get busy in Xcode, so I might have had some unrealistic expectations. Probably near about time to give it a shot again.)

Living Room / Re: Gadget WEEKENDS
« Last post by Renegade on February 03, 2013, 03:50 AM »
I had a rough week. An utterly insane workload ran me into the ground as I rushed to get it done with no time to do anything except eat some crappy instant food, which I'm not used to. Anyways, I ran myself sick into the ground, but have finally managed to pull myself up a bit and got back to cooking some food with some actual nutrition yesterday and today. Which brings me to my wonderful little gadget that saved me oh so much time and made cooking so much easier and faster and made me feel better and wonderful and rainbows shot out of the electric sockets into my eyes filling me with psychadelic mystical powers of getting ready to cook and eat and blather on mindlessly about nothing in particular that you would or would not be interested in reading or possibly even viewing as in viewing video and opposed to viewing images as in still images from a camera or more specifically usually a product web site or...

:P

I decided to make a quick video of it instead of a stock picture. (Cooking Thai curry tonight! :D NOM NOM NOM~!)

It's a simple 1-touch, hands free (mostly) can opener. Pretty simple.

To tell the truth, I have no idea why I bought it. I think it's just because it has this novelty factor to it and I love gadgets and mechanical stuff and snakes and snails and puppy dog tails... ;D
