one app:
"Index.dat Suite is a rather unique program that allows you not only to delete the index.dat files, temporary internet files, temp files, cookies and history, but it also allows you to view the index.dat files on your system. "

there are also some very funny apps there.
check out "cup holder" and "mouse mat"

screenshot captor has a feature made for exactly this purpose.

The "File Name QuickField" on main screen is where you are supposed to enter things like a custom name for a series of screnshots.
the quickfield can be added to the default template in any way you want, because its just a field in your template.

OR if you DONT have quickfield entry in your template, quickfield will be used INSTEAD of your template filename.

i know its a bit convoluted but it's especially set up to do the kind of stuff you are talking about.

as for date and time, see the Templates field you have lots of choices, including a comepletely custom date/time

Available Fields:
%quickfield% - quick text field from main screen
%datetime% , %date% , %time% - local date/time
%customdate% - obeys custom date format
%num% - 3digit counter
%resolution%, %capturemode%
%windowtitle%, %filename%, %nicename%, %fullfilename% ,
%description%, %fileversion% ,
%company% , %productname% , %versionstring%

Finished Programs / Re: Fun games from Mikes Software Co
« Last post by mouser on October 11, 2005, 09:09 AM »
I have a vague idea that might make a fun game.

imagine something like tetris or one of those block games.

but in this case each block would be like an animal. and when blocks come into contact with each other some rules would govern how they interact.

like if a lion block connects to a single antelope block.. bye bye antelope.
if penguin block meets a fish block, bye bye fish.

if lion block meets 4 penguin blocks... well i don't know, i havent gotten that far yet..

this is similar in fact to the suggestion by someone that we set up a wiki.  ill think about which would be best.
definitely a good idea.

good ideas carol - i was thinking to add a command to copy the current selection and auto save it as a new image file in the screenshot directory, which would do what you say.

and you gave me a good idea to support dropping image files into clipart panel to copy them into clipart directory.

it think your resize idea is a good one - might be a little hard to do it exactly as you suggestion, but i think i might be able to come up with something close.  an easy temporary fix of course is to just select resize dialog, enter a large value in upper right box, and let it grow entire space around the image, and then crop to desired size by eye.

Screenshot Captor / an idea for an effect
« Last post by mouser on October 11, 2005, 07:16 AM »
i had an idea for adding a command for an effect, wanted to see if i could explain it.

i was thinking of an effect where you select some region, and it would get copied and placed to the right of the main image, and then the main image shrunk down to match the height of the selected region.

the effect is to have a side by side overview vs. zoomed view.

so i was thinking of providing a command to do this.  would this be useful?  any other related ideas?

here is sample of the effect in action.

An Update on the Fundraiser Idea:

  • We have decided to go ahead with the Fundraiser for the month of November.
  • We are going to contact the companies that have offered discounts in the past and inquire about revisiting these discounts and/or offering a few more donation copies for us to give out in drawings.
  • The software giveaway drawings seem popular and so i think we will try hard to get a bunch of copies of stuff.  which is why i'd like to make a request:  if you know of any shareware authors who might be willing to donate a few copies of their program for us to give away, please ask them nicely for us, and if they are willing to, please have them make a post here or email me ([email protected]).  We will make a special page of all such companies/authors who have donated copies for us to give away during our fundraiser.
  • We need a new logo and/or mascot!!!! If you have the skills or know someone who does and is willing to donate their time, please submit something.
  • We will try to offer some kind of tshirt or hat or something with donationcoder.com catchphrase+logo for people who want it.
  • .
  • We will try to revamp the site a bit in honor of the fundraiser; this will include some excerpts of nice things people have said in emails; if you haven't written us a nice email but have been meaning to, now is the time :)
  • If you know of some site that would be interested in receiving a kind of blurb about our fundraiser and/or our site in general, it would be nice if we could get out some publicity in november, so let us know.

just looking again at your wishlist nontroppo.

i will try to add adaptive frequency scoring

running task list seems like it would be fun to add - and actually you've given me a good idea:
an option that says in an alias to launch an app IFF its not already running (but switch to it if it is running)
this is what would be used in task list but might be useful for other aliases too.

and thanks for reminding me to look into performance tweaks.

hehehehe.

F&R uses the force and zen anticipation:

you can never press the wrong key - whatever app launched is the one that the universe wants you to use.  don't fight it, just use the app that launches.

Screenshot Captor / Re: DLL Error Messages
« Last post by mouser on October 11, 2005, 04:52 AM »
the left sidebar of screenshot captor is basically a component that provides full windows file explorer shell support.
as such, it supports all the operations found in windows explorer, and it will attach to the dlls that are registered as shell extensions just like any file explorer tool will (it doesnt use more memory is just links in automatically to existing shell dlls).

this answers why the dlls seem linked to screenshot captor but doesnt answer the ctrl+copy effect.
i tried it here and it worked like normal shell.

question:
if you open windows file explorer and do ctrl+C on a png file, do you get same dll error?

ive never heard of it not being able to dock to some sides of screen...

you should be able to drag it to any side of the screen and it should auto dock to it.

what exactly happens when you drag it to extreme side of your screen?

what operating system are you using?

its mainly meant for unicode text BUT if you have text that requires fixed formatting like ascii art
the solution is to load the text, select it all,
and then select a fixed ascii format font.

but you gave me an idea to add a button to do that with one click, for such things.
i will add to next version.

i will add save confirm option.

as for capturing only what is shown, yep i'm afraid that is how it currently works.. maybe can make a fix for that sometime in future but currently thats a limitation.

UrlSnooper / Re: Chante France URL
« Last post by mouser on October 10, 2005, 11:14 PM »
this is a sneaky embedded asf stream url.
in fact url snooper can discover it, but it changes constantly (it's a live stream).
the real url looks something like this:

mms://streamwmt.chantefrance.com/ChanteFrancec145a3353c5a6c3aee6c44137c869434

and is found by url snooper once the stream starts playing.
you can paste it into something like streambox vcr 1.30 (note you want 1.30 not 1.31 since its an asf stream).

the thing is that that mms url is going to change constantly because i guess it is timestamped, so i think youd need to sniff it again by first connecting to the browser and using snooper each time before you started recording to get the new url.

here is the place for better answers on all this kinds of stuff:

Find And Run Robot / Re: Feature Request V2 — Drag'n'Drop Config…
« Last post by mouser on October 10, 2005, 02:08 PM »
not a bad idea and easy enough to do.
35024
the reason i may have done it the way i've done it could be this:

with the current approach, if you want the process to bump back up to normal, then its just 2 more clicks from the same page you are adding the rule on.  and if you want to leave it at low priority, you do nothing.

but if i made the program automatically go back to normal priority then you would be out of luck if you wanted to leave it at low priority.
(for more complicated reasons the configurator cannot know that the process was lowered by the tray tool, so it cant restore it, it has to wait until it closes and tray tool would restore it). so youd have to reopen the config after that and go manually lower it again if you wanted it to stay lowered.

perhaps the best clearest solution would be very simple:
If user adds a new rule to IGNORE an app and priority is low, the configure app can simply pop up a simple message saying:
"Process Tamer will now ignore this application completely.  It is currently set at low priority - if you would like to boost it back to it's normal priority, just choose 'NORMAL' from the processes priority drop down box now."

what do you think?
35025
yes, i think that probably makes sense.  i know i considered this at the time, but i can't remember if i had a good reason for doing it the way i did.
