Tinman reminded me of a great movie that really nailed a few things. Sort of an action/tragedy. A man is pushed past his breaking point, at which point he just snaps.

Was it a sequel? I liked Shaun better when he still was alive: movies.netflix.com/ShauntheSheep

Hahahaha~! ;D

I also love Shaun the Sheep~! My wife and I sit down every so often and watch a few episodes. :D (We have the DVD set.)

^Watched a relative's son and daughter sit through it a while back. They're 7 and 5 respectively. Not a tear in sight. Truth is, I think they were rather bored by it.

Not sure whether that's a good thing or if I should cry again for Old Yeller...

All eyes now on Firefox as the only real alternative.

I think you may well be right there.

Chrome is a *&^(*& when it comes to trying to scroll on long pages, and especially if you zoom in a bit. It's just *&%^% horrible. That's the engine there. Opera is much kinder. I've not been using Firefox as a main browser for a while, but I have a feeling that I'll be returning to it shortly.

Continuing in the departure from horror and sci-fi, how about movies that made you cry?

Old Yeller

Old Yeller.jpg

Not sure how old I was when I saw it, but probably around 7 or so.

It used to be common parlance to talk about crying to Old Yeller. Not so sure that it would evoke the same tears today though...

The link still works for me from the website

Go to www.avast.com

Click Support

Under Order & Renewals at the bottom click on "Software Installation Files"

and there is a link to the free version from the Avast servers (the link I posted earlier).

Found it on this page:

http://www.avast.com...AST&locale=en-au

The page before it was:

http://www.avast.com...au/download-software

Quite well hidden!

(Consider changing "en-au" to your language-country codes.)

Oddly enough, the torrent has disappeared from The Pirate Bay:

https://torrentfreak...ring-torrent-130211/

The Pirate Bay is well-known for not removing torrents to any content, unless it’s criminally illegal in Sweden or contains malware or a virus. So with this in mind, try searching for Anodyne on the site. Actually, save yourself some time and don’t bother. The torrent, which was uploaded by a user called Frewyrn, has been deleted.

Stardust:
Adventure, fantasy, (riskier) jokes, nice effects, decent storyline and last but not least a strong cast. I mean, who can say no to Michelle Pfeiffer with Claire Daines as backup?

That was a BRILLIANT movie! I loved it! It's probably the closest thing to The Princess Bride, and very much comparable, though I couldn't say which I liked more. I've see TPB more times than I could count. (Used to stick it in while working - nearly wore out the tape.)

Because if you go to the Avast webpages, all the links you will find (or at least I could find) just direct you back to download, com (aka CNET) for the free version.

Good. I'm not blind then. I'd looked for a direct download, but only saw the link to CNET. I gave up after a bit & just went to CNET. I'd figured with their last fiasco that they'd smartened up a bit and would continue in kind. Guess not.

If it's free, YOU are the product.  :o

I'll have to check out that Pontypool. Sounds pretty good.

As for Prince of Darkness... That was 1987... I'm pretty sure that I was drunk and/or high that year, or a good portion of it. I know I saw it, but... :P

And speaking of zombie flicks, this is a FANTASTIC one:

http://www.imdb.com/...tt0103873/?ref_=sr_1

Dead Alive.jpg

It's a romantic horromedy (horror comedy). It mashes up a love story inside of a zombie apocalypse, but keeps things in perspective and makes fun of everything!

FAIR WARNING: You will likely piss yourself laughing. You have been warned~! ;D

I'd forgotten about that -- definitely one of the best zombie movies I've ever seen!

(Incidentally, it was directed by Peter Jackson - same dude that did the LotR.)

Hmmm... Come to think of it, Dead Alive was in 1992, and I'm pretty sure I was drunk & high that year too... :P Must have been really good if I remembered it~! ;D

I just noticed now that it ALSO installs "Google Toolbar for Internet Explorer". I'd never have noticed that if I'd not gone to uninstall a piece of software in the VM. Sigh...

Since we're posting so many, I'll add another and a note:

Life of Brian

And pretty much everything else by Monty Python.

The only bad thing about Monty Python is that we can't get any more Monty Python.

But, rather than dwell on negativity, I think that we should always look on the bright side of life! :P

Interesting read:
http://www.glazman.o...EN-WEB-NEEDS-YOU-NOW
-fenixproductions (February 13, 2013, 06:22 PM)

Yet more fuel for my loathing of the entire "web" of crap with broken standards and crummy web programming for different platforms.

Self-interest in platforms is the real destroyer of the web. If companies/whoever actually built browsers for designers, programmers, and users, we'd have none of this silliness.

arent there any tablets (not whole tablets like ipad, etc, but those that are kinda like touchpad) that can do it?

I'm not sure what you're talking about there. If it's not a tablet, but a touchpad, what is it?

You can edit on an Android tablet. There are office suites for Android. Similar for iOS. It's best to have an external keyboard or keyboard dock though. You cannot reasonably edit with the onscreen keyboard.

Incidentally and way off topic...

Never brought a laptop into the desert. I don't lead that interesting a life. But I have worked with them in non-air-conditioned environments where the temperatures were well over 100 and the humidity not much less.

That is soooo begging for sarcastic comments on how horribly underpriviledged and hard done by you are for *having* worked in a non-AC place once upon a time. ;D :P But, I'll leave the sarcasm to someone else~! :P

I would typically only keep it in the freezer for a few minutes, and usually place it on top of something in there. I had the same worries, but... tight deadlines and a laptop that just shuts off completely... yeah... desperate measures. The laptop spent more time in the fridge. :D

But I also have to wonder about putting it into the freezer... how good can that be for it??

Desperate times... ;)

The cooling pads work incredibly well. I have nothing but good stuff to say about them. They work far better than a damp cloth, or the fridge. :D

I didn't even know that Old Boy was released outside Korea.

It's perhaps one of the more disturbed movies out there. Deeply disturbed...

I have a Dell, and it runs HOT. I have a cooling pad for it, but in hot weather, I've had to take it and put it in the freezer or fridge to cool it down. More than once.

Before the cooling pad, during a short deadline, I soaked cloths (same kind) and had a layer of ice between them, then coins (or something - I forget) to prop up the laptop.

The Dell just quits when it gets hot. Poof.

Perhaps one of the best horror films I've ever seen:

I'm going to have to check out some flicks. There are a few recommendations up there that I've not seen, but sound good.

I'm not going to second much as there are too many good ones above, but +1 for Cube. Great flicks.

How many quotes do you know from this movie?

The Princess Bride:

My name is Inigo Montoya.
You killed my father.
Prepare to die.

;D

Vizzini: He didn’t fall?! Inconceivable!
Inigo Montoya: You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
