It used to be offered by Raxco.  They stopped distribution, but a new vendor has licensed the technology from the developer (leapfrog software) and is now offering it.  The new vendor is Horizon DataSys.  It's the exact same software that I reviewed here: https://www.donation...dex.php?topic=7189.0

Living Room / Re: By the time you read this, Internet Radio will be dead
« Last post by cthorpe on July 13, 2007, 07:00 PM »
With July 15th just two days away, everybody was left to assume that Internet Radio wouldn’t be around come Sunday. Fortunately, late last night it was reported that webcasters have in fact worked out a temporary deal with the recording industry.

Looks like they got a stay of execution.  No word on how long it may last.

I tend to loose my spacebar and the E key the fastest on keyboards.

Now with FARR, I forsee the Pause/Break key wearing out faster than anything else.

Living Room / Re: New 7 Wonders of the World
« Last post by cthorpe on July 07, 2007, 12:40 AM »
I'm not sure it's the real thing though: it looks more like an email harvesting venture to get people to sign up to holiday type newsletters.
-Perry Mowbray (July 06, 2007, 06:07 AM)

People around the world are being invited to vote in a survey for the New Seven Wonders of the World.
A privately funded organisation, the New 7 Wonders Foundation, has put forward a shortlist of 21 landmarks from across the globe.

An ancient list is being updated, through a modern worldwide poll. Michelle Jana Chan looks at the 21 contenders.
On July 7, there will be a new version of the Seven Wonders of the World, a list that has always captured the imagination of travellers. It will be drawn up on the basis of more than 50 million votes cast from people in almost 200 countries.

But what would we do without some controversy?
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in a press release[1] on June 20, 2007 reaffirmed that it has no link with the initiative, which it says would reflect "only the opinions of those with access to the internet".

A paragraph from the press release reads "There is no comparison between Mr Weber’s mediatised campaign and the scientific and educational work resulting from the inscription of sites on UNESCO’s World Heritage List. The list of the 7 New Wonders of the World will be the result of a private undertaking, reflecting only the opinions of those with access to the internet and not the entire world. This initiative cannot, in any significant and sustainable manner, contribute to the preservation of sites elected by this public."

Living Room / New look over at CyberNet News

cybernetnew.png

There's been a complete redesign at CyberNet News.  For those who don't know the site, it was one of DonationCoder.com's Best Websites of 2006.

Mouser had this to say about it:
Cybernet is only a year old, and they've been producing some serious content at breakneck speed.  Let's hope for our sakes that they keep it up!

It's got a lot of great stories, awesome tips, and has even featured DonationCoder.com offerings such as Zaine's Word Processor Roundup and our New Apps for the New Year Challenge.

If you haven't seen it, you're missing out.

It has been picked up by a new distributer.  Raxco had licensed the software from a company called Leap Frog.  Now Horizon DataSys is distributing it.

I wouldn't buy one, even if I could afford it.  Now if someone handed me a free one, I wouldn't refuse it cause they do look cool.  I just can't see spending that on a phone.

General Software Discussion / Re: My favorite software! What's yours?
« Last post by cthorpe on June 28, 2007, 08:47 AM »
Some current favorites:

Firefox - Well, I switched back to FF from Opera.  I miss the feel of Opera, but I wanted to integrate a notetaking app into the browser.  That being said, I switched to Opera back when FF 2.0 was in beta.  The current release feels more polished.

MusicIP Mixer - How did I enjoy my mp3s before I found this?  We still have a 30% discount running for members.

Surfulater - Notetaking app that integrates with Firefox.  Watch for a 35% members discount in July!

General Software Discussion / Re: Is the Windows start menu dead?
« Last post by cthorpe on June 20, 2007, 10:52 AM »
I use a combination of FARR and Truelaunch Bar to start most of my programs.  Occasionally I will venture into the start menu, which I have organized like this:

Games - games
Internet - browsers, email, ftp, etc
Multimedia - audio, video, graphics design
Productivity - Office, note-taking, home inventory
Security - firewall, av, anti-spyware
Startup - startup apps
System Tools - utilities and rarely used programs

I want to apologize if my comment sounded accusatory.  Like Darwin, I am not saying that you have edited other reviews to make them more favorable, just that someone who knows that you edited this review might wonder if it has happened.  I also understand that I can verify the comments by visiting the webpages and/or emailing the authors.  The problem is that before the review was edited, I assumed that your testimonials and reviews were as provided by the authors and didn't feel compelled to double check and verify them.

Imagine a first time visitor to your site that had been told that you had edited a review because it didn't reflect your product in the way you wanted.  Now if that visitor looked at your list of reviews and testimonials, they wouldn't be as impressive.  I myself know that your products are very high quality, so it doesn't affect me now.  To be honest however, if I had heard that you had edited a review and not been upfront about doing so on the page that displayed the review before I was a user, I might have thought twice about purchasing.

Thanks for your concern and suggestions, but I fail to see why editing the review is "highly suspect".

The reason I said it is highly suspect is because it opens you up to questions about how often, if at all, do you edit other reviews and testimonials on your site to portray your products as you see fit.  How can your customers trust the remainder of the reviews on your website if you have a history of rewriting them when a feature or policy is changed?

I have about 35 programs installed.
I have around 15 programs that I use regularly that are standalone no-install apps.

Every time I reboot my computer, it wipes out any new installed programs unless I specifically tell it to save them.  So I test just about every program that is mentioned here on DC, and quite a few others.  Very few are good enough to warrant sticking around.

As you can see, we have a MusicIP winner who also won a prize last month.  In addition, a couple of other users received emails telling them that they had won Backup4all and novaPDF that won prizes last month as well.  When I was running the Prize Optimizer program, I forgot to have the program take into account the winners from last month's drawing.  As a result, we had some duplicates.

The emails that were sent to the winners of  Backup4all and novaPDF did not contain serial numbers, so we were able to re-award the licenses.  Mouser and I decided to contact those winners, let them know that a mistake was made, and draw new winners.   The winning emails for MusicIP, however, each contained a valid serial number for the program so we could not draw a new winner.

Thank you for your understanding,

Carl Thorpe

My guess would be that it should read:

"C:\Program Files\TheFormLetterMachine\TheFormLetterMachine.exe" -out="C:\users\mehl\announcement.07.txt"

I moved the " from before the -out to before the C:\ at the end.
