Post New Requests Here / Re: DONE: MiniMe (aka MaxiMe)
« Last post by sri on February 03, 2008, 01:02 AM »
I guess something is wrong w/ AutoHotKey on my computer. I double clicked the .ahk file and it seems to be running, but I can't see its icon in the sys tray. When I hit Ctrl or Shift twice to minimize and maximize respectively, nothing happens.

When I double click the .ahk file a second time, it asks me whether I want to replace the running instance. But I don't see a running instance!

Living Room / A script to auto backup web server files?
« Last post by sri on January 25, 2008, 12:28 PM »
Hello all,

I run a WordPress blog hosted at DreamHost. I was wondering if anyone know a method to automatically backup (to the web server and e-mail) all the files in a directory (wp-content/themes/freicurv, to be specific).

Thanks in advance.

I don't get it.

I used BARF to compress a 18 MB file to 11 MB file.

winrar could compress the same to 2 MB

so, what's the advantage?

FeedDemon is overrated and hyped. FeedReader is better IMO.

There are certain things that are simply the best in their category.

Like Roboform for password management, FARR for launching apps, PS Tray Factory for managing the tray icons AND DivShare for storing & sharing files.

http://www.techsmith...essories/firefox.asp

The Firefox Extension for SnagIt is a convenient toolbar that you can add to your Firefox browser for easy access to the most popular screen capture and sharing options for Web page content. Whether you want to capture a scrolling Web page, need specific text or image or a specific part of a Web page, this toolbar gives you one-click access to all of your favorite features right in Firefox.

I went from PE -> DA -> PE.

DA is prettier, easy to use. But it just gets unusable after heavy usage as it becomes slow.

PE is more powerful, fantastic on resources (very light weight), fast and w/ the release of PhraseExpress 5 Beta, it's a must have application.

Nothing to discuss here in my opinion.

RoboForm is the best. The end.

....
In my forum I have published a "roadmap" of XYplorer future developement, and you'll see DP is there! Whoops? Am I finally turning corrupt? Am I getting soft? No, but I'm getting realistic (which is a common euphemism for getting corrupt, I know... :)). I realized that without dual pane I automatically get lower ratings on many software sites. And this sucks. The other advantage of adding it would be obviously: no more discussions about it!!!
...

To me, everything else blurred out except the above. Hurray!

I cannot see an activate.exe in my zip file? Do you have a different Download?

I think starting from this one, there will be only one .exe that you need to run to activate and install. Just follow the instructions in the .txt file and proceed.

EverNote is one of the best programs I've ever used. The full version of it is free for 24 hrs at http://www.giveawayo...theday.com/evernote/

EverNote allows you to easily capture any information you like, and find it whenever you want. Create text or handwritten notes, import mobile phone snapshots, clip web pages, and grab content from any application directly into EverNote - so everything is kept in a single place.

Once your data is in EverNote, find it quickly using our advanced search, automatic and custom categories, and intuitive interface.

EverNote innovates by storing content on an endless, virtual roll of paper. You can quickly scroll chronologically through your notes similar to scanning through handwritten notes in a notebook.

Grab it while it's free.

It's hard to understand why providing an option (of dual pane) is termed as a 'crowd pleasing' tactic. We are asking for dual pane as an extra choice that the user can toggle on and off. Why insist that a user use the program as you see fit? Provide him the choice and everyone's happy.

It's a different matter if the logic behind not willing to provide the requested feature is difficult to implement or takes up too much development time. But being in your own shell by not thinking out of the box and terming dual panes as a useless buzz word isn't true. I use it everyday. I know I am more productive with it and am sure many others think the same. Agreed, you don't use it and am not asking you to, but why not provide it to those who want it? Conduct a poll, I say (again), and see how many people are for it.

Isn't it prudent for a commerical software developer to bring changes that the users (the majority of them) want and not what he/she wants in the product?
I don't think so. A (good) software is not a collection of features whose presence is determined by their popularity. Such a crowd pleasing development strategy would likely result in a corrupt product that won't satisfy most users (although it might sell well for a while because it boasts all the buzz features).

find it ironic that a screen capture tool doesn't have a screen capture of the program itself on its homepage!

(I am not saying that the majority of users want dual pane, it's not known yet and hence my recommendation for a poll on the matter)
