Find And Run Robot / Re: Launching URL files stored in the Windows file system
« Last post by mouser on July 08, 2017, 05:02 AM »
It doesn't look like the alias is actually triggering in your bottom screenshot..
Are you sure it's enabled?
If so, try typing "us news" in the Test Regular Expression field of it just to make sure it's matching..

You did exactly what I said do to but I mispoke -- the function you want to use is "dosearch" not "restartsearch".

It's dosearch that will do the live display and filtering as you type.
The function restartsearch only triggers when you hit enter.

Some services may post what they hope to guarantee, but I think in general when you are using the 3rd party image hosting sites, it's anyone's guess and there is no guarantee.
If you need your images up forever you'll have to keep a copy of them and be prepared to change services..

Let's see.. ok there are a few ways to do this.. And ironically there are a few others on the forum who are better at using FARR than me for these things :)

Let me assume your quick search words doesn't exist because that confuses me :)

So in your directory entry for "C:\FARR\URLs" if you put into "Optional Modifier Keywords": us

Then if you search for: +us news
It should ONLY search that folder for files matching the term new and should not search any other directories at all.

But you say you want it to show the entire contents of that directory when you search with no keywords, so instead what you could do is make an alias and use the restartsearch function to have it do a directory browsing/filtering.
For that you would make an alias regex trigger like us(.*)
and have result of "restartsearch C:\FARR\URLs $$1"
that should show the contents of the directory when you type us and then progressively filter it as you type keywords, the same as if you had directly typed in: C:\FARR\URLs EXTRA_KEYWORDS_HERE

Having said all that, another possibly MUCH EASIER way to do what you want is not to make separate shortcut files, but make one test file with all the urls you want, and put it in a text file and create a "us" alias that uses the "filecontents" command to let farr search it.

As tomos says -- double clicking in the thumbnail panel in SC does nothing but tell the windows operating system to open the image with the default image viewer -- so this is likely a problem with your default image viewer not being registered.  You could try just installing a new free image viewer (like irfanview) and see if it solves the problem.

What tomos said, but ALSO, you can change where the focus starts on that dialog, from the "Quick Bar and Post Cap" options tab, near bottom.  That can be useful if you don't use the Override Filename option much.

ALSO: As you get more experienced with SC you might consider disabling the option that even shows that dialog, as I and many others do, and just tell SC to stay minimized after each capture.

In Screenshot Captor, watermarks are just image files, so just put your custom image files in the user watermarks folder (you can get there from the SpecialFx2->Watermarks->Explore menu item), and they will be available from that menu.
You can change watermarking options from the Special Effect Options tab.

Are you using the portable version? What OS?

Try downloading the portable version and unpacking that somehere new and  see if everything works in that new install and database.

It sounds like maybe it's having some general problem manipulating clips.

I seem to remember an old post about this and that the issue was something simple but was fixed.. But it sounds like you are using the latest version..

You say you can delete using the menu but not "otherwise".. can you try restarting the program and then letting me know exactly what you are trying to do that isn't working as you expect.

Living Room / Re: Anti-procrastination Hacks: Dynamic Unordered Todo List
« Last post by mouser on July 02, 2017, 08:04 AM »
This discussion makes me think that a nice clean todo list interface which allowed for flexible fast filtering might be nice.. So you just have a list of todo items which you can tag in various ways and set different priority numbers to etc, and then a very quick easy way to set the filter to show ALL items, or only items with certain tags, or only items above a certain priority, or after a certain date, etc.

The main idea would be to be able to really quickly hide most items so you felt like you were working with a small list, while still preserving the ability to show all the items when you need to.

That is very sweet.  :-*

Not a bad idea, but I worry it might be over used if it was presented to everyone as one of two equally viable buttons for posting a reply..
But it might be easy for me to add the display of the reply-as-new-thread to the list of customization flags you can specify in your profile...

Living Room / Anti-procrastination Hacks: Dynamic Unordered Todo List
« Last post by mouser on June 30, 2017, 04:16 AM »
This is a really trivial thing, but as I have found it so useful in a recent project I felt the need to post about it and give it a fancy name.

Essentially I am just reporting that one thing I have found particularly helpful in avoid procrastination on a project is to keep a list (in a google doc in this case) of tons of random unordered "mini-tasks" that need to be done for the project.

So it's just a to-do list that we all know about.

But the point is to have a list you can add to and delete from at any time in any order.

I have found this so useful in avoiding procrastination because I can always find SOME SMALL ITEM that I can perform and delete from this list.

And I wanted to argue for the psychological benefits of this over having a much more structured ORDERED plan where you have to do A then B then C.

While such ordered plans are more logical and efficient, I have found that they lead to real psychological roadblocks when you get to some point your mind doesn't want to work on.

Having a list of lots of items big and small, in all different areas, is a great way to help get yourself to mentally just start on something.

And you can always switch gears and be productive by ADDING ITEMS to the list, which can be useful when your brain otherwise is refusing to be productive.

Anyone else have any tricks they use to avoid procrastinating?

I only have the problem when I have a monitor connected to my laptop and they're both the same resolution, but different screen sizes.

Do the two monitors have different text magnifications? I have 4 monitors and SC works fine and it's designed to work well with multiple monitors, but like I said if the monitors have different text scaling, that can cause the problem.

Are you using the latest version of SC?

If you reboot the pc, does it work then?

There is no reason this shouldn't work for the latest version of SC in windows 10 regardless of your text scaling.

I'll go back under my rock where I have been the last 5 years

I hope you will decide to move your rock closer to us so you can visit more frequently.  You have friends here :)

As you say, the technology and computer world has changed a lot since 2005 -- web apps and mobile apps have taken over huge amounts of market share and attention, and those are areas that DC only dabbles in (I hope you've seen my suite of android apps).

It's not that we are uninterested in such things here as much as we are one of the few places that is still focused on desktop apps, and I think there is still a need for such sites even as much of the world moves on..

Keeping a foot in both worlds makes DC a bit more eclectic and "cluttered" than other sites, but we try to make up for that in friendliness :)

I think the best thing folks could do who want to see DC content reflect the projects they are interested in is.. surprise surprise.. share with us the projects you are involved in and interested in on this forum!  I know I would like to hear what more of you are up to and to support your projects and talk about them..

I was suggesting adding a new option added to menu to save as a new file without object.
But a new menu entry as you suggest in Copy to clipboard would work too.

I wasn't aware there is any limit but it's a third party component doing the highlighting and it's possible there is some limitation or bug.  Do you notice anything more predictable about when the problem shows up?
