In the city of Phetchaburi in Thailand, a dog discovered the fish out of the water and unconscious on the pavement. It will try not to let them die by spraying water with its snout. Besides the fish are few puddles. The dog will then sprinkle the fish, as if he wished they would not die. Touching!

And I can't help but notice the humans are laughing in the background while the dog seems genuinely concerned and troubled.

The problem is that if I'm going to use the Facebook messaging system, the only thing I want to use it for is essentially as an IM client. I don't want it accessing my contacts or my camera or my microphone or my location or anything else.

The very act of granting it permission to do those things means that it can at any time access those functionalities of your device. And if you trust the app to only do it when you explicitly give it permission to (e.g., only access the camera/gallery when you're taking/attaching a photo to your IM) then great! Use it. But IMO, Facebook has already demonstrated time and again that they cannot be trusted. They will abuse these permissions, they will take every advantage they can to collect as much information about you as possible.

I won't be pursuing it. Thinking on it, I actually ordered the cables about a year ago but didn't open them right away. When I finally did open them and start using the long, thin ones, it only took maybe 4-6 weeks for the wires to get exposed. But as I said, the cables still work perfectly.

I think if I order more and experience the same issue, then I might pursue it with those ones.

But anyway, I didn't mean to derail the topic. I still turn primarily to Monoprice when it comes to buying cables. Especially things like HDMI cables. (c:

I recently-ish bought some of the USB -> USB Micro cables from Monoprice.  I wanted nice, long 6' cables so it could reach from the outlets, and it turns out that my tablet's case is too snug around the USB connector for the "fat" ones to plug in while the case is on. So I had to get the more expensive, thin ones.

After a few weeks of using it to charge my phone and/or tablet the internal wires are poking out near the connection. )c:



The cable still works fine, but I have to say I was disappointed at paying extra and having it falling apart so quickly. This is really my only complaint I have about Monoprice.

As someone who is turned off by LoL because of all the ways they can get money from you, I'm surprised people are complaining that they don't do it enough.

I'd really rather just buy a game once, and get all of it forever. I don't want to be nickeled and dimed. I don't want to subscribe for the privilege to play. I just want to "own" the game I buy, so I can play it any time, anywhere, anyhow.

Trout doesn't have an in-built always-on-top feature.  However, there are many freeware programs out there that allow you set AoT for any window.

Twitch.tv will do this, too. I'm not sure if it mutes the livestream, but it will mute the recording. Even if it's your own! You're not allowed to listen to the audio on your own recording if they match it to some copyrighted content.

Ludum Dare 30 is coming up fast! It will begin in just under 14 days!

This thread is the general purpose LD30 thread. Any discussion about LD30 and its games can be posted here. I plan to participate again, so I'll probably be posting about my game in this thread, but feel free to talk about any LD30 games in this thread. Also, if you know anything about coding or game making, you should participate in Ludum Dare 30! And if you don't, you should still take this opportunity to join in and learn!

Right now the Theme Slaughtering has begun. You can help decide which theme will inspire literally thousands of games by taking part in the slaughtering. I believe the slaughtering will last only a week and then the theme voting will begin.

I don't think Wikimedia is trying to argue that the copyright belongs to the ape. I think the point of Wikimedia's argument is that the image is essentially in the public domain because the camera's owner doesn't own the copyright (as he didn't take the picture, or even supervise/direct the photograph in any way), and the photographer (the person/creature/thing that took the photo) is not a human, so the ape can't own the copyright either.

True. My point was more about how "digital piracy" isn't actually theft. "Stolen" passwords definitely present a much bigger risk of personal loss than a "stolen" digital movie.

Even so, if someone "steals" the combination to your safe, nothing has been stolen until they use the combination to open your safe and steal the contents.

Whether or not something was taken is almost moot once your security is compromised and the potential is there for someone to act upon it.

Now if the act of compromising the security of digital accounts or IDs was specifically made a crime it would go a long way towards clearing up that nagging issue of whether or not it was an actual criminal act if nothing had been taken yet.

Yeah, "compromised" is a good term when dealing with passwords or vault combinations. But it doesn't quite fit the act of "stealing" digital movies or music. The only thing that is supposedly compromised in that situation is the thickness of the MPAA's and RIAA's wallets.

We really have to come up with a better word to describe digital "theft" that leaves the original unharmed and intact. If someone stole my refrigerator by making an exact copy of it and leaving me with my own copy... would I really care? Would I consider it theft?

Yeah, but how does the client know who to communicate your IP address to? Or do you mean we'd have to manually tell each other our IPs and manually enter them into the client?
