@tannim:  Do you mind if I mark this thread as solved?

@tannim, if you can't find something you like from the suggestions, I'll write this for you.  Based on your description and my first thoughts, it's a pretty easy Coding Snack to write.  Yeah, cranio, mouser et al, famous last words.

Though I have to admit I'm not one of those "minimal is king" people so I suspect it may not be for me, just as Foobar never was.

I'm not the type to toot my own my horn, but I think you'll find that Trout tries to strike a balance between the extremely minimalist players and the completely overstuffed ones.  The one thing that I've tried to maintain from the start is an intuitive load-n-play mentality.  Load files via the menu or drag-n-drop, click the play button and it should just work.  There are sooo many players I have tried that don't do drag-n-drop or even basic multi-file selection; it astounds me at times.   Anyway, enough blathering from me.  If you try Trout and don't like it, you won't hurt my feelings any.   :P

N.A.N.Y. 2011 / Re: NANY 2011 Release: Snap DB
« Last post by skwire on March 24, 2011, 10:07 AM »
Thanks for the feedback, kfitting; I appreciate it.

I actually have written a set of functions that "encode" and "decode" multiline blocks of text for storage in and reading back of an INI file for some other apps of mine.  Snap DB's file format is much like an INI in that each record is stored on a single line.  However, I decided not to do multiline records because I feel it would take away from Snap DB's simple, elegant (IMHO) interface.  I mean, there really is not a good place to put a multiline edit/text field on the main form without sacrificing listview space in some way (which I'm loathe to do).

Give this a try: CreateShortcutThereMod.zip

Rename your current CreateShortcutThere.exe and replace it with this one.

Skwire Empire / Steam URL Converter
« Last post by skwire on March 24, 2011, 12:10 AM »
Name Steam URL Converter
Short Description Steam allows you to create shortcuts on your desktop to launch games.  However, these shortcuts are not standard Windows .LNK files.  They are .URL files and, sometimes, they don't show the proper icon for the intended game even if the .URL file contains the correct information.  This app tries to solve the issue by converting the .URL shortcut into a .LNK shortcut.  Simply drag the .URL file onto the SteamURLConverter.exe file and it will immediately create a .LNK file in the same folder as the .URL file.

Finished Programs / Re: DONE: Scan music collection for missing covers/artwork
« Last post by skwire on March 23, 2011, 02:07 PM »
[1] When clicking on the Resolution column, the entries are sorted based on the string representation of the resolution.
[2] When clicking on the Type column, the entries are sorted based on name of the cover art file.

Changed in the latest version.

[3] It would be nice if I could specify what foldernames to skip using wild cards.

I'll add this to the ToDo and try to get to it in a later build.

[4] When I select on of the other picture files listed under that cover, on my machine running Windows Vista I visually loose my selection in the main list.  I don't know if that is something you can solve. Since on my XP machine I see that the selection is still there.
Apparently on my Vista machine, the background color of a selected item if in a table/list not having the focus is white.

Since it works fine on your XP box, I'm going to assume this may have something to do with the theme you're running since I already have the LVS_SHOWSELALWAYS property set for that listview.  That property states that the listview selection, if any, is always shown, even if the control does not have keyboard focus.  I tested it in a Windows 7 VM as well and it worked fine.

That's for the 64kbit AAC stream, which gives high quality sound without using too much bandwidth (theirs as well as mine).

Cool, Trout plays it fine.  I like AAC streams as well for the reasons you gave.   :D

Any idea what might be going wrong, or how I can watch what it's doing in more detail, perhaps?

On line 43, you can take off the "Hide" keyword.  This will allow you to see the freaccmd.exe window.

I'm really not liking the Age column being displayed but I don't mind having that info.  How about I just show the highlighted person's age in another section on the statusbar instead?

Scraping text from games can be notoriously difficult and random.  Though I always say that you can accomplish anything with enough lines of code  :D, you may have to accept that this can't be accomplished.  It's possible that you might be able to leverage the ImageSearch/PixelSearch capabilities of AutoHotkey to "read" the game screen but it would be a ton of work.

I would greatly appreciate it, Skwire.

Done, see below.   :D

I think with the clear separation between snippets ClipTrap would be a must-have utility, and get tons of praise out there in cyberland.  ClipTrap would be the best in its category.  And FREE.  Unbelievable value.

Thanks for the kind words.  Though I think that ClipTrap serves a specific purpose, there are plenty more capable clipboard managers out there.

    * Changed toolbar and button icons to the Fugue set.
    - Removed "Add extra blank line option" since you can now specify a custom

1. Billy -  found billy a few months ago and  haven't looked back wish last.fm and tag editing was supported but other than that this is my favorite player.

FWIW, Billy does have last.fm scrobbling support and I think it's a fantastic application.  That being said, and at the risk of a shameless plug, you may like the player I wrote called Trout.  One of the reasons I wrote it was because Billy didn't support tags as well as more audio formats.

Skwire Empire / Re: Release: sWeather (tray-based weather app)
« Last post by skwire on March 21, 2011, 09:36 PM »
A minor request (I hope)... when clicking on the 'Full Forecast' link (from the main Window or the 'Expanded View' one), it takes you to the 'Forecast' page for your location but the unit is Fahrenheit. To see the forecast in Celsius requires another click  :(

The problem is that the forecast link that Yahoo provide in the RSS feed is an older link leading to a "301 Moved Permanently" page which then follows through to the new webpage location.  That's why you see the page change.  I wrote some code to follow it and get the new page (which I can manipulate for the proper temperature units) but it tends to hang up the app and I can't figure out why.
