Much like "tequila and handguns," it's the way it sometimes gets used that people take issue with.
So your advice for those wondering about Perl would be to take a shot?

Would-be purchasers will have to leave the store through special exits, at which they will pay for the merchandise.
These will be known as bill gates.

BTW: I'm a shareholder, but I have no problem with philanthropic endeavors on the part of the companies I invest in.
Nor I, done intelligently it's all part of a sensible management strategy.

Sounds more like you're a speculator rather than investor with a comment like that.
Some of each.  In neither case do I invest in order to make a loss.

My point is that shareholders have a responsibility to curb management when it becomes necessary as well as the right to question management when they see fit.

Looks as if the switch is reversed.  Post a lot, no sig.  Few posts,  sig.
Could that be it?

- China has developed Red Flag Linux (based on Fedora)
- Cuba is developing Nova (based on Sabayon Linux)
- Brazil has developed Litrix Linux (based on Gentoo Linux)
- Russia is developing ALT Linux (based on the free GNU/Linux code)

Here's the mascot for Russia's national OS? A penguin bear!  :P

Is it true that Cuba, being a little warmer, has adopted the bare penguin?

They see only one side: how much money did you make for me today?
I take exception to the 'only'.
As for the rest, damn right, we're shareholders not philanthropists!
If there is a concern, shareholders must speak out.
It's then up to management to make its case for investment.
Profit today, or profit tomorrow (even short-term loss)... make a good case and shareholders listen.

@#$#. gotta shutdown...just lost power here

See, this is what happens to those who decry WS.
Half-baked they may be but those guys have power!

Meanwhile, I'm preparing to act on my offer (outlined here).

am not sure I need this
Look into my eyes.
Take deeeep breaths.
Repeat after me, "I need no more software, I can save the money."

Mental slips and typos are easy to make but a human should take on the task of proof reading, especially something destined for wide circulation.

why is there so much talk of shaving in a thread about frugality?
Don't get in a lather about it, Jim!
It won't help if you badger people.

Maybe it doesn't do a lot by today's web-enabled standards. But what it does do, it still does very well.

I still use a steam-driven Palm IIIxe.

Mind you, I have less than no desire to monitor web pages with a system that I think offers a view akin to 'what the butler saw', nor do I want anyone trying to telephone or e-mail me when I'm not at my desk (if then).  That's what human PA's are for.

Over the course of a year, you'd break about even, and you get to shave in style!
Is that counting the costs of getting stitches at the emergency room?
And, is Edvard just your nick name?

The tool tips are very helpful.
I see now that my previous interpretation had been incorrect,
viz., reading from left to right, Symbolic.pngleave the house to visit the washroom on the first of the month, due to being a lame duck.

Anyone using the Rating Feature or Ignore threads feature?
Any requests?
I'm ignoring things (could ignore this thread if you like).
It's fine.

Haven't rated anything.  It'll probably take a while for the benefits of that to sink in.

I suspect that the absence of requests implies that your mods work well 'out of the box'.

Can one aggregate the ratings somewhere, somehow?  At the end of say 3 months would there be an easy way to determine which poster had the greatest star quality in one's personal firmament?
