ContextMenu Commander / Re: ContextMenu Commander
« Last post by mouser on February 06, 2006, 08:41 AM »
i really look forward to writing about context menu commander when it comes out..
basically ive been spending a lot of time making a really nice friendly and very powerful infrastructure for letting users design custom hierarhical menus and stuff, which would be useful for designing custom context menus, launch bars, and more.  i'm really very proud of it and i plan to be using it in several programs.

but the good news is that the code is specifically designed so that a very lightweight windows dll will be used to handle the context menu stuff.  in fact because of the way the cmc is being designed it will be incredibly light on resource usage :)

the 2 things you requested will be in context menu commander for sure.

release date is a bit hard to estimate - i've been working very hard on the shared infrastructure that will be used in a series of programs inlcuding contextmenu commander, and the first app to use this will be launch bar commander and it looks like farr 2.  contextmenu commander is a joint project with another programmer so it's a bit harder to give a real date.  However, a good deal of the code is already written and working, so it's not vaporware, just a matter of scheduling :)

the new cody is now official, look at top of this page and on site pages and you'll see him in all his shaded glory.

ps.
the previous cody has been given a very generous retirement package and is now on a worldwide vacation romp.. i expect we might be receiving some postcards from him in the near future.. keep your eyes open..

Do we have any serious photoshop users here? I'm thinking it might be fun to set up a regular series of photoshop filter reviews.  These wouldn't be nearly as exhausting to do as normal reviews since i think each plugin would be an independent little review.  But we'd want to find one or two people to do a whole series of plugin reviews, not just one or two.
if anyone feels like they'd be interested in this and has the skills to do it, mail me ([email protected]).

i must admit to having kfitting's fears regarding defragging as well.. but i don't know anything about whether its well founded, it's just a gut level reluctance to having the hard drive going insane moving stuff around like mad more than it has to.  my general approach has been to use a defragmenter occasionally, maybe once every coupld of months.  but that's based just on superstition not on any informed information.

another way to ask this is that you don't nescesarily need a good gif *EDITOR* right?  A good image converter with advanced tools for color reduction might also suffice?

wow!
awesome list alexp; i think you've just inspired me to upgrade to the lastest firefox and try some of these..  thanks for all those nice web developer oriented extensions.

sure, just send them to me, [email protected]

we will try to go for the biggest world wide publications first, and then narrow our way down as need be.

i added GUI Toolkits, that would cover things like codejock; i agree it would be nice to get some discounts on that kind of software.  i hope we'll have a review of these soon and with that some good discounts.

cg, print review link is a very good idea; in fact it's been asked for even in our current format, since the sidebar makes it harder to print.
