updated to version 1.04.01 -
miniflash.exe is now included with a little demo of how to use it.

Q: What is Miniflash?
A: Miniflash is a tiny flash movie (swf) player whose only purpose is to play a movie in a borderless or thinborder window, which can be invoked on the commandline and passed flash variable parameters, which is normally not possible in the flash player.  it can be useful for capturing screenshots of flash movies with certain parameters, in a non-interactive fashion in conjunction with MiniCap. (99.9999999999999999999% of people have no need for miniflash).

nice!  it really is useful to have some sample color schemes to look at in order to make a decision about which one looks best.

that blue one sure gives me flashbacks to the days of turboc and turbopascal.

maybe we need a script that gradually changes your color scheme based on time of day, from light to dark - that would be cool :)

easy to do - i'll let someone else do it because its a fun project, but if no one responds in 24 hours ill post a solution.
this is actually a fun programming challenge that i would give to a new programmer, so it's a good post for people just learning how to program :)

im assuming you want an .exe program for windows that does this right? if not, if you want it done in a particular language then you should post an update.

we are talking about when you attach images and files to a forum post using the forum feature, not hosting them externally on a site like imageshack.

Summary
As far as I can tell, there isn't a decent mailing list program to be found anywhere on the planet. I don't want a lot a really, just a basic tool to keep a list of addresses and post a message once in a while. You'd think I could find one...

perfect way to start this section - absolutely perfect.

i think having a thread like this, with a list of pointers to relevant posts on the forum that we can keep updated is incredibly valuable.

(i can see this becoming one of the best features of the forum).

Living Room / any fans here of the Internal Affairs I-III chinese movies?
« Last post by mouser on February 19, 2006, 08:02 PM »
this series of 3 chinese cop movies are really excellent.

you really have to be alert and paying attention or youll never follow them.
but even so i'm a bit confused about the ending to #3.  i dont want to give away any spoilers so if someone understands the end well could pm me it would be appreciated.

and for those who haven't seen these movies, i recommend.

Living Room / Re: xp dual boot raid 0 insanity cool down
« Last post by mouser on February 19, 2006, 03:34 PM »
i have always found dual booting more trouble than its worth.

i agree with db to use a virtual machine if you have a single primary OS, and then want some others where speed is not an issue.
if you really need multiple operating ssystems that you switch between often that must run fast -
buy another pc and connect them via lan.

as good as the vmware and virtualpc tools are these days, its hard for me to see cases where dual booting is worth the hassle regarding boot managers, etc.

Developer's Corner / Re: The fear of change

in general, i think its more important to use the proper tool for the job; some jobs are best tackled with a quick and dirty scripting language, some require a big heavy duty object oriented infrastructure maximized for speed.

i agree with most of what you've said -
and i definitely think there are a class of people who revel in saying there language is the "one true language" and all others are horrible.

personally i am still resisting .net.

it has some stuff i really like but until it is officially and fully endorsed as a long term cross platform solution i am avoiding it.  i don't need to waste time on something that is not robustly cross platform, and i dont know how well mono is going to be supported into the future.

as a 20yr c/c++ programming i have to tell you my feelings about the language are profoundly conflicted.  i am attached and fond of the syntax and style but also find it increasingly distasteful and full of legacy evilness.

however i've not found a competing language i liked any better.

im still in search of a better language/development platform.
i've had my dreams of making my own, but that way lies madness i know.

just a report that mirc 6.17 and mircryption work fine together,
no need to do anything special, just install new mirc over old and leave default options to keep all your settings.

just wanted to add a note:

the $ under people's names is for people to make small donations to a user if they appreicate their help.

if you don't want to set up a paypal account or something like that, feel free to add a non-paypal link to your favorite charity or something, so people who want to express their thanks can make a donation in your honor.
