General Software Discussion / Anyone using Auslogics Browser Care?
« Last post by MilesAhead on May 04, 2014, 08:15 AM »
I'm just curious if anyone with Auslogics Browser Care experience likes/dislikes it and why?

It seems like a good idea.  However, I set my home pages to about:blank and use CCleaner for cleaning.  I'm not sure if the remaining functions justify using it.

Cool.  :)

I won't post song lyrics as they never read the same without the music.  But this does kind of make me think of the Jefferson Starship tune A Child Is Coming

Edit: btw clicking play the song wants to download something.  I didn't go there.  I remember how the song sounds.  :)

There could be a cheesy Macro way to do it that would work in several browsers.  It could work like this:  Click the browser with the mouse to make it active, hit hotkey(which saves the window handle and also opens a Folder select dialog.) select folder.  The tray hotkey would then read all htm files into an array.  When you hit the arrow, if the original browser window is the active window the normal arrow function is superseded and the filename is pasted into the addressbar using file:// etc..

Seems like Opera FF chrome and IE control l makes the addressbar active and selects all text.  A simple Send should paste in the file path and hit Enter. A bit clunky but that's Macro.  :)

I may be a bit conservative with ADATA.  But out of 5 or so purchased I haven't had one break yet.  Even some with a light and flimsy feel to them.  With such a small sample it may just be luck though.  :)

(Ah! The good Ol' days)
When I was a mechanic I think the customer car I test drove I wanted to own the most was a '71 Camaro LT.  That thing was nice.  Really deep bucket seats.  Sharp body styling.  Big engine.  And of course rack & pinion steering.  I didn't get to drive it very far.  But I could tell it handled flat as well as looked cool.  Just taking it around the block was fun.  :)

That will stop the update dead in its tracks, if you have accidentally triggered it and haven't restarted your browser yet

Thanks for that tip App. I hate that when it tries to update even though I have it set to ask me first.  I haven't bothered to look if that bug is already registered.  If I do "check for updates" just to see if there is one, it tries to install it if it finds it.  Really annoying.

+1

oddly, in my case, the update didnt work anyway

Somebody needs to take that mechanism out of the portable builds.  When you click to install the update on a portable it should pop up a dialog saying "We don't need no stinkin' updates!  'dis is da' portable version!"  :)

I used to do auto inspections in Massachusetts back in my mechanic days.  It was almost like something out of Kurt Vonnegut when we would hook up the emissions tester and detune the carburetor fuel mixture to get the car to pass.  Then we'd adjust the fuel mixture to get it to run right and charge the customer for a carburetor adjustment.  :)

What surprised me almost as much as South Africa ending Apartheid was that Florida realized people queuing up to get their emissions tested created more pollution than compliance prevented.  They did away with the testing stations altogether.

btw I used to have a '68 charger.  But it only had a 318 2 bbl.  No sub 5 second 0-60s for me.  :)

That's cheaper per GB than the 64 GB drive.
Is that the only criteria or do you have personal experience with that model?  Since I can only purchase a few sticks one of my main criteria is ruggedness under heavy conditions.  The first USB stick I bought was a Sandisk Titanium.  All the reviews were about how unbreakable it was,  It died after about a dozen connect/disconnect to/from USB port cycles.

After a couple more duds I decided to avoid "sliding guts" designs.

Edit: the read/write numbers on that drive look good.  I just wish I could see some "life test" data on these things.  When I read glowing reviews of products on Newegg or Walmart I look at the length of ownership.  It's often less than 6 weeks.  Tough to tell by that other than it worked well out of the box.  :)

3237
I guess I should have added AutoHotkey.  :)

Pale Moon

Browser Bunch, which launches PM with my startup sites

Transpose, a potpourri of hotkeys active in editors and browsers, examples.. control t to transpose 2 characters left of the caret, press shift key while left mouse button down in browser copies selection to clipboard, control F9 looks up word left of caret in The Free Dictionary etc..

EditPad Lite 7, very nice free text editor

MoveIt, my hotkey window positioning/moving utility

and of course I always have FARR running.  :)

At least it should have the 'fox' icon some where to differentiate it.

I hate it when they do the ribbon bit.  The first thing I have to do is enable the menu bar.  Now it just wastes vertical space.  The only compensation is if you are running Glass.

Firefox upgraded to 29 and it looks so similar to Chrome now that I have to take a closer look at the extension icons on top-right to assure I am in FF and not in Chrome.

At least it should have the 'fox' icon some where to differentiate it.

Regards,

Anand

Wow Anand is right. I tend to stay a version or two back. This new one is such a mess I might try to downgrade maybe Version 28 or something.

At least PaleMoon is sensible ... but I haven't updated that one yet!
:o

For Firefox Portable I recommend 27.0.  Even 27.01 introduced funky behavior.  I tried 28, then went back to 27.0.  Pale Moon latest(24.5.0) seems ok.  I notice Opera now is basically chrome while maintaining the old "click x times to copy a line" mouse actions.  Although the x64 Opera is fast.  Still I find FF/Pale Moon lets me have the FF AddOns.

Edit: I find Firefox Portable 27.0 plenty fast.  The main reason I have Pale Moon is so I can install it as the default browser.  As far as speed goes I really can't distinguish between them.

Found Deals and Discounts / ADATA S102 64 GB USB 3.0 $5 promo ends May 1

ADATA S102 64 GB USB 3.0 $5 promo ends May 1

I have the 32 GB S102 ADATA USB 3.0 so I could not resist purchasing this 64 GB version.  The price is $34.99.  The $5 promo brings it down to $29.99.  If you are in the continental US and can take advantage of the free shipping then it's quite a deal.

For me this is kind of a two-fer.  PayPal has some contest where any purchase before May 5 qualifies for $5,000 added to your PayPal balance.  I have use for the USB and at greater than 2 GB per buck, it's worth a chance.  :)

Just paste the promo code at checkout.

General Software Discussion / Re: Are there any simple graphic editors?

Seems to me I've done most of the functions in the OP's list using Irfanview so I have to wonder if you installed the plug-ins.

Paint.NET sounds about right for a freebie.  Irfanview toolbox isn't exactly intuitive.  But I flunked stick figures so a big grain of salt with my suggestions.  :)

It may have fewer features than a full blown editor.  But Irfanview is lightweight and does most if not all of the functions you listed. It also has a bunch of free plug-ins available for download.

And of course there is always gimp for those willing to trade learning curve for a zero cost full featured editor.

Because something like 90% of the world's active duty nuclear arsenals are now located onboard submarines and other naval vessels. And those weapon systems never seem to get included in arms limitation discussions.

Now what does that tell you?

I'd say it looks promising we can ban derringers as siege weapons.

@Carl when it says "Word not so bad considering who wrote the thing" I meant that I wrote the word processing program.  So no way it would be perfect.  :)

I wonder.  Do they still make 8" floppies under contract?

I guess it does make it harder for somebody to put a virus on a USB stick and contaminate the computers.  No USB ports!!  :)

Ah the good old nuclear silo!!  Home of The Whopper:)

now let's y'all put away the nibs and uh... call it a draw, shall we?

Heh.  The pen is mightier than the sword.  Apparently a good fountain pen is more powerful than a pistol.  :)

Miles, either that or she keeps a bottle of something in her desk. ;)

Heh heh.  So you are saying not enough page breaks and too many booze breaks?  :)

If I wrote a word processor it wouldn't be named Word Perfect.  It would likely be named Words not too bad considering who wrote the thing.

When I first read the subject line for some reason I imagined two guys facing each other on Main Street in front of the Saloon, at high noon, trying to dowse each other with ink.
