basically i'm impartial on this but wr975's point hit me on the head. the good folks here at DC had donated thinking that the dough will go to AHK's development team. So it's a bit like moving the goal-post now if we turn around and say "let's split".

yes this is exactly why I asked.

Ok, there is no point in continuing this discussion - your voices have been heard and there is enough objection that we will *not* split the fund.

Instead, we will leave the fund as a pure ahk donation, and dc management will independently make a donation to autoit to reflect the fact that AutoIt deserves some reward as well.
31927
We created an Autohotkey fund that people can donate to with their DonationCredits (click gold coin at top of page), because there are quite a few people on this forum who use Autohotkey, especially Skrommel who uses it for all his One Hour Software Coding Snacks.

I've been reminded that Autohotkey uses significant amount of code and tools (for example the ahk->exe compiler) from AutoIt.

I know there is some bad blood between ahk and autoit and i don't want to stir up a hornets nest, but since both developers accept donations, i'd like to propose that we split the $100 donation (when the fund goal is reached) between the two developers, and donate $50 to each.

Does anyone object to this?

Looks like this one hasn't been exploited in the wild yet but is something to be concerned about.

definitely dont play a song other than the one you wrote in the background -
even if it wasnt a copyright problem - better to do that stuff in post production digitally.

i love the name mercury runner but im afraid it conflicts with an existing product so it's back to the drawing board..

i made the mistake of giving a release date before and let people down so i'm reluctant do give a date; let's say in 2006 though.
what i can say is that there WILL be a new version, there is no doubt at all.  i spent the last several months doing website development here and donationcredits, programming school, forum updates, etc.  so it's pushed me back on schedule.
and i guess im still chewing over possible directions for farr 2 which also has much to do with it.
so please keep the farr v2 ideas coming including the new name.

this needs to be implemented - i'm convinced of it.

I'll take a whack at it if skrommel isn't going to.. but i'd still like to wait for skrommel to officially pass on it, since i'm guessing it's something he can do faster than me by far.

skrommel what do you say?

ok i've received two excellent opinionated segments from zaine and housetier, but we still need more and the deadline is approaching fast!

i'm dying to get some funny man-on-the street (or woman-on-the-street) interviews, or something else fun and creative about software.

i'd also like to find people who are willing to conduct (and record) phone interviews with donationware authors or other people involved in software development.  if you are such a person please contact me asap.

i would tend to agree but there are plenty of apps for which size and memory don't matter, and where you may have a big existing codebase.  being able to quickly turn an existing big script to a windows exe can be a great thing in such a case.

LATEST VERSION HISTORY

v2.05.01 - July 14, 2009
  • You can now call browsertrayswitch with the -lbcswitch option from LaunchBarCommander command output node to generate a submenu for switching browsers from LaunchBarCommander.

v2.04.01 - July 11, 2009
  • Added support for commandline switching to a specific browser snapshot file.

v2.03.01 - July 10, 2009
  • Trying to make it work well on Vista/Win7.
  • You can now overide the default icon for a browser setting by placing a file with the same name as the .btsregfile file but with .ico extension instead.
  • This is a major rewrite of the basic way that BTS works.  Previous versions tried to guess registry settings.  The new version essentially takes snapshots of key registry values for a given browser, and then restores them on demand.
  • Now includes update checking support.
  • Now includes support for configdir.ini (portable use or custom config file locations)
  • Added links to other programs DefaultBrowser and SetBrowser

v1.02.01 - 4/24/06
  • Added "Edit configuration file menu options"
  • Added new "-switch" commandline options so you can set default browsers purely through commandline.
  • Added automatic detection of browsers - thx to PhilKC who found the registry key that makes this possible.

The big thing here is really the automatic detection of browsers - it should make it much easier to start using the program - and most people will now never have to edit the configuration file unless they want to tweak the captions or get fancy with menu order or separators, etc.

Thanks again to PhilKC who found the registry key that enabled autodetection of browsers.

Java / Re: java applet problems
« Last post by mouser on April 24, 2006, 08:14 AM »
i think you are misunderstanding the "this" pointer.
this refers to the object you are currently in.
so within an object function (method):

this.VARIABLE is the same as VARIABLE

(unless you have two different variables with the same name and one is hidden).

so when you do
this.desert = desert;
or
this.main = main;

you are saying
X = X

it's a meaningless assignment with no effect.

Java / Re: java applet problems
« Last post by mouser on April 24, 2006, 07:09 AM »
The IDE I'm using (eclipse) flags up the line desert.gameWon(); with the following error: The assignment to variable desert has no effect which I guess is why it's not working but I don't really understand why/how.

surely it's talking about the line above:
this.desert = desert;

which appears to be an assignment of a variable to itself.
(and if it's not meant to be, if you actually have two different variables, once a class variable and one a function variable, both named desert, then shame on you).

you are very right tony, and no offense is taken;
the video wasn't made to demo farr but as part of screencasting review, and it was supposed to be remade a long time ago.

i will try to get it remade, maybe into several parts, but it's just lower on priority than a couple of other projects at the moment.
