I suspect that you may have drawn that line in possibly the "wrong" place.

I'm sure I'd have to agree with you about that. But I was trying not to sound too combative since it's a tender subject for a lot of people I like and respect. Even if I totally disagree with them about some things they hold dear.  8)

And that's navigating that space.  Even if you're sure that you're right, being able to leave it alone, as others experiences might not echo yours.  After all, if you're sure you're right, then of what practical use is arguing with someone who's sure you're wrong?  Are we so insecure in our beliefs (or disbeliefs) that we have to stir up something that won't make a difference either way, and will just in the end create fractious arguments?  I couldn't say for all, but that, to me, seems a non-gracious approach, no matter on which side you fall.

General Software Discussion / Re: Looking back (Some of your first code)

I had one particular project that I'd update whenever I started learning a new language.  I have it in VB (the first language that I started programming UIs in), Delphi, VB.NET (ick), C#.  I don't think I have the code for that anymore... but you've spurred me to look :)

Thanks for the response.  And that's why I didn't respond for so long... didn't really know how exactly to respond, but it was more an engagement, especially after leaving a piece like this in the community- which it seems he did, to remove the cloud over the disparities.

Oh yes... I was just saying that they had implemented it, not just on that thread.  And I'm not of a mood to register just to see the thread, so... :)

That's what I thought you meant.  I didn't even know that there was anything other than a don't get notifications for threads option.

Unfortunately, there's a fine line between belief and mania.

I think that belief has to be tempered with acceptance.  Everyone is not going to believe as you do.  And that's OK.  It's just navigating that in between space that becomes tricky.

If you read the article, some people ask some really good questions of him... that he doesn't answer.
Mike, How were you able to sell your coins if your claim “Couldn’t move your existing money” is true?

Simple. Right now, because of the low blocksize limit, transactions with higher fees are accepted/added to the blockchain by miners while transactions with lower fees are delayed/ignored. You can easily move your money if you're willing to pay exorbitant fees.

Just a couple of months ago I could make transactions for a couple of cents. Now I've heard the average transaction fee is about 10 cents. While still relatively low, there is no reason for artificially increasing the fees by keeping the blocksize limit small as the miner reward of 25BTC is still pretty significant! Even when it halves to 12.5BTC (scheduled to happen in about 6 months) that's ~$4,750 every ten minutes at the current exchange rate.

I think someone who quits an open source project to work for a company that does basically the same (centralized blockchain) should not comment on their previous "employer". It’s the lowest thing you can do, you lost all credibility and if I were an employer I would never hire someone who just talks crap about an ex-employer.

This isn't a question.

You do realize that these messages are poisonous to Bitcoin… And that, especially coming from you, this might be a nail in the Bitcoin coffin. I mean, it’s a little petty to spread these articles to destroy the confidence in Bitcoin, just because things didn’t go the way you wanted it to go. There would’ve been better solutions… I’m just saying, we all have a problem now… I hope Bitcoin won’t respond too much to this article..

This also isn't a question.

We see that pedantry hasn't helped the situation.  However, his answers to those non questions but definitely queries could go a lot towards his reasons behind posting the article at this point, and engagement with the community that he dropped this load on would be a good measure towards showing that the reasons for such are not self-serving nor self-aggrandizing.  If you're going to drop an article like this and not engage, it becomes an open letter, and you shouldn't even open up the comments section, IMO.

Didn't notice... but that's an argument against for some people.

Um...so... has Curt resigned or something? I'm not sure how to interpret his new forum signature.

It certainly seems like it, especially as he removed his avatar also.  I wonder if its because of this thread?  If so... sad.

We all should petition GOD for a better version. Even M$ listened the users and made Win10 from Win8 !

The first feature I want is 48 or more hours per day. You can not imagine the pressure of NANY near the end, due to this limitation  :(
Second it would be better if we can run more instances of ourselves  :)

There are more but I leave others to add.

For each improvement, there are downsides.  I say, we know the rules, and it works!  Leave well enough alone!

Downsides to 72 hour days- we'll have 360 hour weeks.  They're bad enough at 40!  ;D

Running multiple instances... that one writes itself.  8)

As Curt said, "move thread to basement (board)"

I believe the world as God made it has stayed the same since major events like Creation and the Flood.  Mankind has made most of the changes "trying to improve the world."  Looks like they have made a mess of things. No free updates from God are necessary.
God is not dead,  He is alive!

This thread is obviously tongue in cheek.  Can we not have a bit of fun in an open area?  We aren't really talking about anything serious... it's just silly humor.  And I say this as a believer.  If we can't interact on this level, it sort of explains the negative view that many have...  :(

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

if the code is too buggy, don't mess with it, it will only get worse.

Both of these, and one more.

Feature Bloat.  Have a vision, and stick with it.  Any problems?  Restate them as a Feature.

I want to see what Renegade thinks.  Especially in the light of that troubling PDF he directed us to a bit ago.

Me too, I'm just afraid by the time he chimes in it'll be under $200. I hate to 'Panic Sale' the coin, but I'm really really tired of the waiting game...and I have other things - being held up by it - that need to get done.

Living Room / Excellent articles on the advantages of Subscriptions over Ads
« Last post by wraith808 on January 14, 2016, 12:29 PM »
Selling ads is a short-term strategy. Here’s why subscriptions are the future of journalism

One quote that I wanted to highlight:

Damaging the ties with your audience is the last thing one should do, yet it seems to be every publisher’s strategy at the moment.

Right now, I really don't care about most content.  When I see the damage done by their revenue stream to me personally, when I see them try to gate the content, I just become uninterested.  I do subscribe to google contributor.  I flattr.  I am a Patreon.  I'm willing to pay for the content that I consume.  I'm just not willing to have your ads flashed at me all the time, and the inherent vulnerabilities that they introduce.

How hard of a concept is that?
