shellcity is a *GREAT* site.

there is a lot of chatter these days about clickfraud and the possibility that much of google ad traffic is fake.
we run google ads on this site and i can't say it thrills me to do so.  generally i really dislike the idea of having advertisements..

one interesting idea would be to only accept advertisements from some list of companies/products that won review awards on the site; and maybe do like monthlong campaigns where for 1 month all pages have an ad for that month's sponsor.  and let companies bid each month for that sponsorship spot.

an advantage would be that you wouldn't be advertising stuff the site members didn't support and feel was worth supporting.  disadvantages include the hassle of having to negotiate advertising ratings and arrange contracts.  thats really the main advantage of google ads and similar stuff, that you don't have to do much, it takes care of itself.

might be worth a try here at some point.  pick a month and invite a select group of companies to bid on a month long ()week long) advertising campaign.

good idea about indicating what has been done already, i will put together a list.
the list above was meant to be for big FULL reviews (shootouts),
but this list reflects people's interests, so any mini review of any program falling into those categories would be welcome on the mini review section.

i've updated https://www.donation...com/Contests/banner/
to show the new designs..

note: my initial post about formats and filenames was specifying wrong filenames and format for the forum.
i've converted those already sent to me, but future entries should use the formats now shown here:
https://www.donation...dex.php?topic=2802.0

i.e.
in the future the forum images should also be png and named
topbanner_forum.png and sliver_forum.png

hi rick :)
not being a pain at all.

you can add images to a post as follows:
just start a reply on that thread, and at the bottom you'll find a button to add an attachment, click that and browse to the image file on your pc.  then click the (more attachments) link to create a new box to add a new attachment, and repeat until you've added all the images.

i think a spoiler like button that says read more instantly makes a lot of sense.

each blog entry WILL be a post on the forum,
but users wont just be able to put a [blog] tag in their post to make that happen.
only a moderator will be able to be able to promote a post to a blog/frontpage entry.
and only a moderator will have final say about what introductory text from the post should go on the blog page.

yes this would work for any alias that you want to treat like a file result.
the problem is when you want to use an action/modifier/alias which isnt meant to compete with files and not change this list of found files.

im not sure i understand what you are saying jgpaiva;
as i understand the [blog] tag idea it's more like this:

blog entries and articles will be made from posts (you dont need to add the [blog] tags for that).
the only issue is that you could allow people to indicate which parts of their post should be extracted and displayed in the blogs or article intro.  at least that is my idea.

a better term would be [intro] [/intro] which you could use to indicate which short text to use as an intro.

consider this:
i type
"dylan pl"

now, at the time you type pl
farr will think you mean do limit results to files with pl in their name
it doesnt know that you are typing an action
so it will be using what you type to restrict file name results.

this is a fine place to post such questions actually :)
i was just suggesting that for more prolonged questions that require more back and forth help sometimes the channel is better, but you seem to already know enough mirc scripting to get it working

i was thinking something similar actually..
the only thing we have to figure out is.. often the person posting wont be the person adding the entry to the blog page.

so a moderator or admin might "promot" a post to the blog view, not the original author.

so in this case there are 2 choices:
1) have admin edit the post to add special intro tags (downside = admin has to edit post and it shows up as edited by ..)
2) when admin says to blog a post, simply COPY the post rather than linking to it, then admin can choose what text to leave out.  advantage is it lets admin cutomize the blog posts a bit if it needs to be (edit title, text, pic).  i think this might be the way to go.

yes, the MircryptionSignalAll thing is designed to help you catch text and do things with it (respond to it, ignore it, etc.) in very flexible ways, without modifying the actual mircryption.mrc script, so its not affected by any upgrades.

make sure you copy the mircryptionsignalall function to your own script file and modify that one - don't edit the one in mircryption.mrc directly.

if you visit #mircryption on efnet you could get some more help as well.

Another quick "extra prefix" would be to read all phrases that begin with an uppercase letter as modifiers ("Kill" is a modifier, "kill" is not).

thats an interesting idea.
and i dont mind making an initial space signify a modifier in addition to a custom prefix.

we could also say that whenever an exact match to an action is typed, it is automatically recognized as an action; just keep in mind that searching for file result would get disrupted while you were typing.

so for example, if you typed

dylan pla

youd get no results

but after you finished typing

dylan play

then the program would automatically convert your typed text to

dylan +play

I think that when something was blogged, that something should have an additional comment from the blogger

this is an interesting point -
if you are always embeddeding/extracted (blogged) the first post of a thread then i don't think it will be a problem.. but if you were grabbing posts from the middle of a thread it might require something else..

but there are other issues like a long post should only display an intro text and say "click for more" maybe..

well philkc had the right idea, except in your case you would want to check %m so i guess you want like
if (fuckoff isin %m) {
       haltdef
}

However -
that instruction is misleading - you really should NOT be modifying that mircryption function unless you want to be always remaking any change whenever you ugprade.. since any change would get erased when you upgraded.

instead,
you can use the MircryptionSignalAll signal to add your own handler to catch certain text and do different things.
see the very bottom of mircryption.mrc for the signal and some instructions on how to use it.

« Last post by mouser on May 20, 2006, 09:43 PM »
another beautiful mysterious game where you can't figure out what to do.

Chronon is brand new and unusual point-and-click puzzle game from On of Eyezmaze. The time-based puzzle takes place in the dwelling of a creature that leaves early in the morning and returns in the evening. The object of the game is to move the correct items at their respective times throughout the day to complete the story.
Click on items to act upon them, if possible, and change the time of day by clicking on the time buttons along the top of the game window.

the forum will not change.

the idea is that for example, we will be able to tag certain posts in the forum (like a mini-review), and say, ok make this post available as a real page on the site in section Reviews -> MiniReviews.

and then from the Reviews Page they will see a list of minireviews, including that one,
which they can read in a nicely formatted full page view with sidebar, and click to discuss it in the forum.

so the forum itself wont change, but it will allow us to build a kind of static organized web page out of the best posts.
