Unfinished Requests / Re: IDEA: Text Editor just for text (stay with me)
« Last post by mouser on June 10, 2006, 06:36 AM »
i have to admit to working the way SAE140 describes sometimes -
i'll write the first draft in a plain text processor (ultraedit) and then only later bring it in to word for final formatting.

it's a great question.. i know there is one for doing this stuff and a bit more.. but i can't remember the name/link.  someone else will for sure though.

the sooner artists can receive direct payments for their work and cut out the middle man the better.

ProcessTamer / Re: IndieVolume and ProcessTamer's bubble pop sound
« Last post by mouser on June 10, 2006, 12:36 AM »
it's a built in windows balloon tip thing..
i wonder if there is an option to disable the sound associated with balloon tips.

a reasonable solution might be to simply disable balloon messages inside process tamer (make sure you get the latest version which has lots of balloon message options).

absolutely.
you can attach it to this thread in a post, or email me ([email protected]) and i'll make a little space for you until you get your server issues resolved.  not a problem.

this is an interesting idea..
it's related to an idea that javajones had about letting people from other sites use donationcoder as their system of microdonations, by letting them choose an account where a certain portion of their donation goes automatically.

for example, imagine if a site goodsite.com wanted to allow users to exchange microdonations and ask people to support their site, they might ask us to set up something where when someone donates to the system from their site, instead of 50% of donation going to us, 50% would go to goodsite.com.  or 45/5, etc.

the only thing is i dont want us to become a middleman trying to profit off of being a middleman in financial transactions.. donationcredits is not all about making money as financial middleman. we can leave the financial game to paypal and google and credit cards.  and affiliate like systems always seem iffy to me.

but, there is no reason donationcoder.com has to take 50% of new donations.. that was just a figure we started with.  it might be fun to say that 50% of each incoming donation goes somewhere.. either directly to the site account if user doesn't say anything special, or maybe if user who donates has someone specific that referred them or is their friend, they could maybe specify right away that the credits should go to them.

i guess part of the problem i have with affiliates is that you basically create this incentive system where people are hard selling other sites in order to make a profit - which i think hurts the reputations of both places.

Best Dialog Extender / Re: PowerDesk Pro's Dialog Helper

It might be useful to point out that PowerDesk 6 Standard version is available for free, unlimited use:

hey this is rather great news - i'm a big fan of powerdesk and the comparison of standard vs. pro is not so bad: http://www.v-com.com...sk_Pro_Compare2.html

i would definitely recommend giving this a try.

this sounds like a really nice idea!

Backup Guide / Re: Acronis now does backup of individual files/folders
« Last post by mouser on June 08, 2006, 11:47 AM »
there are pros and cons to making a synchronized copied compared to standard backup.  others can add to this list if they think of stuff i haven't mentioned.

pro:
synchronized copy is much easier to access the data - no special software needed. easier to search etc.

cons:
no compression, so it takes much more space.
no chance of doing versioned backup of files (where you keep multiple copies of a file as it changes, so you can roll back to previous version); this is a big one for me.
takes up tens of thousands of files, as opposed to just one file for a compressed backup, which can be told to split into dvd sized chunks.

superboyac, almost no "backup" programs do this.
what you want is a synchronization program.
there are some that have been recommended before, though i'm not familiar with them.

back to acronis:
actually i dont care about file level backup in an imaging program, but what i would LOVE is the ability to make a drive image except specify certain folders to IGNORE.  when are we going to get that feature??

will do.

can i clarify something?
as i understand it you are doing something a bit unusual having french version of win and then using hebrew special characters..

so it works with french characters and diacriticals(?) as normal.. it just gets stuck with the special characters involved in some additional character set (hebrew in this case?)

and it just doesnt seem to search these folders is that right?

question:
is it just that it wont search these directories when you try to provide them in the search list (have you tried that?)
or is it that it won't search them even if they are subdirectories of directories that it will search.

FlipSuite and Flipbook Printer / Re: images lost
« Last post by mouser on June 08, 2006, 09:21 AM »
it's supposed to just show borders to help you check allignment.
i should make that clearer or print a message on the page -
basically it's to help you test if you got the card borders correctly set.

i have heard of someone else with windows98 having this problem or else not having it work with winpcap.. i wish i understood more about what the problem is.. im pretty sure its a winpcap issue but i dont know how to address it..

ah here is a way to learn more:
can you try downloading another demo app from winpcap site, or another tool that uses winpcap, and see if the problem is there as well:

test page is supposed to be blank :)

it's supposed to just show borders to help you check allignment.

if you want to print a single page of images from movie, click the "Current Page" button.

can you be a bit more specific about what prints, and what previews.

one thing we've heard before is that the QUALITY setting on the "print options" tab can sometimes cause black and white printing or other behavior, you might try changing that.
