i've actually posted here before about steven from rack911.com

he solved our very difficult email cpu server load problem, which the entire support team at our hosting service failed to improve.  it was really eye opening to me about the value of finding someone who has some substantial background knowledge.

he's a great guy and i would recommend him as well, 100%.

well to be fair, they may want to show potential members the kind of articles that are available so they have some basis to know whether to join.

and we also don't know if they are letting anyone join.. though i suspect that they are.

Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: Print large pictures on multiple pages

that might work, but its not exactly an elegant solution..
surely there is a free image printer out there that already does this well..

it's woth noting that they are not (at least not currently) asking for any money to join - so that is a very positive sign.  the organization is mostly for small software developers, so it wouldn't be so strange if they wanted to restrict reading of the articles to people who want to join the organization.

Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: Print large pictures on multiple pages
« Last post by mouser on June 19, 2006, 07:27 AM »
just to summarize: i believe the request here is for a simple free program that can print big pictures by splitting them onto multiple pages.  sort of like a poster printer, but not for enlarging, more for automatically splitting overwise images.

so perhaps the way to think about this would be that one dimension of the image will be sized to fit the full width or height of a page, and the other dimension would span multiple pages.

to tell the truth, the organization seems mostly focued on marketing, and so it's not really for my tastes, and not really a good match for me or for donationcoder (there is an article about why making freeware is bad for business and why to avoid giving discounts).

however, having said that, i can see how it would very much be a useful organization for small software companies to be able to band together and compete against the big companies (as long as it doesn't turn into a club for a few companies to have a vehicle to promote themselves).

well like any clip in chs, you can open the main window, edit it and reselect it to make it your current clipboard, so that's not a problem.

you could just do a generic tiny (48x48 or so) cody with a thought balloon and cody with a speech balloon.
and people could make custom images with the desired text or thought words.

General Software Discussion / Re: Why is so much software cracked?
« Last post by mouser on June 18, 2006, 04:33 PM »
good point f0dder..
this actually reflects my fear about the current direction of financing open source projects - that middlemen support providers will make money while coders wouldn't.

i dont know if it's practical but..
imagine this scenario:

what if there was a law that anyone could provide support for any software, BUT
companies provifing support for free/open source software had to kick back 50% of profits to the software author.

i know it would be a hard law to implement, but that would actually address the issue and might be a good tradeoff of work vs. pay and put money where it belongs.

no, i think you've got it right..

which is faster and more efficient might depend on how many of these you are doing.
if you are doing a lot, i think the normal process of copying all and then going to main chs window and "merging" a bunch of clips would be better, and less prone to error.

if you are just doing like 2 or 3 at a time, then a special hotkey might be faster just because you wouldn't have to open up the chs window to operate it.
