Find And Run Robot / Re: FARR Plugin Updates - Very Confusing
« Last post by cranioscopical on May 02, 2009, 08:07 AM »
I guess I'll wait for the next dcupdater attempt and take a screenshot so I know which plugins are affected

Thanks, and sorry for all the confusion. I'm sure that this post seems silly to the FARR plug-in experts here, but for the uninitiated it is sorely needed info!

Hey Jim,

Why not just run DCUpdater now for the screen shot instead of waiting?

Your post doesn't seem at all silly to me (but then I'm inexpert in almost every field -- you should see my mowing)!

I know that I don't use FARR to its full potential and there seems to be a lot of information about it, and its plug-ins, scattered across various locations/topics. The result for me is that if I can't see an easy update path to a  plug-in I just remove the item.

That said, I don't want to give the impression that I'm ungrateful for FARR or the efforts of mouser and the plug-in writers -- FARR from it!  It must be a beast trying to provide cohesive documentation for a product that's constantly evolving in multiple directions simultaneously.

I am curious if 'you' ever were given a Blue Screen, due to copying at 00:00:00 midnight?

Miles Ahead could probably tell you what happens "Round About Midnight".
Are you sitting comfortably?
Then I'll begin.  It all started in 1957....

Site/Forum Features / Re: Feature Request: Copy Code
« Last post by cranioscopical on May 01, 2009, 09:14 PM »
good ideas.  how about 2 buttons at top of highlighted code.
1. copy all code to clipboard
2. expand code box to show entire code
Those would be a nice convenience!

Does that result in a rhesus negative?

I submit that "New user" could be inferred as deprecatory whereas post count is non-judgmental.

I think they both could be interpreted as either, depending on who is doing the interpreting. :)

In that case -- and I don't dispute it -- do you think, perhaps, that changing from one to the other offers little advantage?
Showing the count could be made an option for individual users, I presume.
Some people seem to like it and others not.

Speaking purely personally, I find the count mildly interesting and informative.
To me it's not always a high number of postings that catches the eye. Sometimes, a comment from a long-time member whose posts are few somehow adds weight to the matter.

3106
there should just be a "new user" tag added

It might be easy for some to be inhibited with that tag hung around their necks.

(OK, how do you get that witty repartee to show up here at the end...)

Go to "My Profile" at the top of the page.
mprof.png
Once there...
On the left, look for and select "Modify Profile/Forum Profile Information"
Then...
Go down and modify the box that says "Signature"

Read to the end...

U.S. Robotics used to bundle something like this with some modems.
You could try that as a starting point for more searching if no better help emerges.

But once it gets to 1am it's OK??
-Perry Mowbray (April 29, 2009, 10:06 AM)
There was one occasion when I noticed it was giving 2 AM instead of 2 PM.
I'll try to mount a watch on what happens, and when.

Actually... just checked.  Right now, at 5:46 PM Weds in Ontario (EDT), TZ gives Brisbane as 7:46 PM Thurs,
whereas it's really 7:46 AM.

I don't know, I still stagger when I progress from bar to bar!

I'll pass on your regards: he's 91 next month  :D
-Perry Mowbray (April 29, 2009, 08:46 AM)

And doing well on it, I hope!

Thanks for taking the trouble to modify this.
As a reward ( :o) I'm attaching another slight quirk.
The AM/PM reporting gets out of sync sometimes.
I grabbed these two shots just far enough apart for the minute to roll over
but it's the am/pm indicators to which I refer.

Hi Perry,

I have a minor oddity when using TimeZone.

It relates to the item "TimeZone Options", displayed by typing "tz" in FARR.

This is no big thing but, while custom labels for favourites 2 through 5 do stick,
slot one likes to revert to the label "Grandad in Palmerston North ::".
Slot one still picks up the correct time for the chosen location.

So:
1   tz
2   TimeZone Options
3   set label for slot 1
4   hit 'Set' button
5   exit TimeZone
6   repeat 1
7   repeat 2

Hello Grandad! :)

Each custom label has its check mark in place.
The correct label (my own choice) for slot 1 is in the .ini file.
Are those trailing colons a clue?

Note Taking Software / Re: SuperboyAC's Notetaking Software Roundup #1

I've been using Surfulator but I'm wondering if Evernote, either v2.2. or v3, is quicker to load. Any thoughts on that, superboyac?
FWIW, Surfulater 3.00.10 here.  Starts in under 2 seconds but it's a small database (2.5MB).

Nice write up, nice format, tranglos.

This is a great way to get a quick feel for a bunch of software in the same category.
Thanks for taking the time to do this!

I had to type in 13 different files of assembler source and assemble 'em all together

For the C=64, I think I typed in all four suits from a deck of cards... "The Transactor", if I recall aright?  :)

Are you going to add "duplicate to" functionality? Would like that very much.

Living Room / Re: Geek gadgets - Calculators...

these are the gadgets that got me into computing!
Same here.
Buying and playing with a programmable calc led me to take my first, night school computer course.
That quick sharp led me to buy my first computer.
(I couldn't stand the wait, from week-to-week, for the punch-card to print-out COBOL cycle.)
