Mini-Reviews by Members / New User Mini Review Feature Page Coming
« Last post by mouser on July 16, 2006, 11:28 AM »
I'm going to set up a page for user-written mini reviews much like this page of c++ builder contest entries, which is based off of the blog system:

https://www.donation...ests/bcb/entries.php

Basically each item is linked to a forum post where there is a screenshot, etc.

So I could use some help identifying the posts where user-written mini reviews are posted.

Then the mini review section will get its own page on the proper website.

I'm going to set up a page for non-skrommel user-written coding snacks much like this page of c++ builder contest entries, which is based off of the blog system:

https://www.donation...ests/bcb/entries.php

Basically each item is linked to a forum post where there is a screenshot, etc.

So I could use some help identifying the posts where user-written (non-skrommel) coding snacks are posted.

Then the coding snacks items will be added to the top of the coding snacks page.

Please post replies here with links to such coding snacks posts.

Ok we've created a page to show off some of the entries and let people try those programs that the authors have decided to make available:

https://www.donation...ests/bcb/entries.php

The entries on that page are actually built from the posts in this section.  If your program isn't listed there yet, just make a post here and attach a screenshot (and attach the program itself if you want to make it available), and I will add it to that page of entries.  Then people will be able to try it and give some feedback.

Great work everyone who decided to make their programs available!

ps. you can also now get to that page from the sidebar on the main contest page http://bcbcontest.donationcoder.com

Great to see people chiming in here

What do you guys think about us making a kind of gallery page with screenshots and blurbs about your programs, and download/webpage links if you want?  It might be nice to get some attention to your programs if and when you are ready to share them with the world.

I know a few of you have expressed reservations about revealing your programs before the end of the contest.  I'd like to encourage you to be make them available now but it's completely up to you.

If any of you are interested in making a web page for your donationware programs we can make some space available for you as part of the thanks for taking part in the contest.

Geetings to all entrants in the DonationCoder.com C++ Builder contest!

Thank you for participating.  We're very excited about the contest, and we hope you have had fun coding :)

After some consideration we have decided to extend the deadline of the contest for 30 days, until August 14th.  This will be a one time extension, and no submissions will be accepted after that date.

If you are already happy with your current submission, there is nothing further you need to do.  Otherwise you might take the time to write some more documentation, or so some finishing touches.

We have updated the contest web page to include much more detailed prize package information and I encourage you to check it out:

https://www.donationcoder.com/Contests/bcb/

Try out some of the current entries here:
https://www.donation...ests/bcb/entries.php

We've also clarified the rules to make clear that you may still sell any programs you submit, as long as you make the current version available as donationware for personal use.

We also invite entrants to make their programs available on the forum for others to try.  I can help you post it or make a web page for it if you like.  It will be fun and helpful for you to get some feedback.

I apologize if the 30 day extension is inconvenient for anyone.

from: http://www.betanews....older_App/1152917352
Following a barrage of criticism from security experts and IT administrators, Microsoft has withdrawn its new Private Folder application.
...
Private Folder was designed to hide data from the hard drive in addition to protecting it with a password. However, the application quickly drew concern from administrators who feared users would lose their password and not be able to unlock their files. In addition, parents voiced worry that kids could use Private Folder to hide content they download.

wtf is going on here?

more here: http://www.betanews....riticized/1152565309
Microsoft has released an application that would make it possible for those who share a PC or account to store files in a separate folder that only they may access. The move has been criticized, however, as some say the program could be misused, hiding content from IT administrators.
...
The software is called Private Folder 1.0, and hides data from the hard drive in addition to protecting it with a password. While no support will be given for the product, it will be available to those who verify their software as genuine through Microsoft's Windows Genuine Advantage Program.

But response to Private Folder from some was not positive. "An alleged security app that's easily circumvented and completely unsupported, with absolutely no documentation? Oh, dear. With all due respect, who the heck came up with this and why?" a user named "Drew" posted to the MSBlog on Monday.

Additionally, if a user loses the password to the folder, there is no way for Microsoft --or an administrator -- to unlock the files to regain access, something that many of the application's detractors found problematic.

if i am understanding this right.. microsoft released a program for encrypting files and people got all upset that it could encrypt files, and then microsoft withdrew it?  huh?

[actually the stuff above about how it was released without any support or documentation etc. does sound like ms is asking for a tech support nightmare and it doesn't make any sense to me why ms would release such a thing, but still..]

So, I've decided I was born in the wrong time, either 10 years to early, or 30 years too late.  Bummer.

look at your avatar rover - you are clearly from the late 1940s or early 1950s.

it probably should be there as well.. good idea.

by the way superticker how do you feel about the left click of tray menu?
i cannot make up my mind about it.. on one hand, its nice to show recent clips with left click,
but on the other hand it makes double clicking on tray icon sometimes act up a bit.

I'd like to invite all entrants to the bcb contest to post a little hello here and introduce yourself if you like, and tell a little about the program(s) you submitted if you feel like it.

Let's get to know each other a bit!

ps. I will be posting an update about the contest in the next day or so.

you can now fill in a biography info in your forum profile that people can see when they click the red paper icon under your name in posts.  you can also use bbcode and even images from posts like app103 did (click the red paper icon in her post above to see a good example).
