Site/Forum Features / Re: DonationCredits CodyCoin Web Page Links!
« Last post by mouser on July 19, 2006, 02:42 AM »
i'm going to add a feature so you can add some info to your link about what page the user came from when they donated to help you know.

and may i strongly recommend to people that they customize their donation "blurbs" in their forum profile to tell people who click on the donate link a little bit about you and that you do appreciate and welcome their donation - it makes people feel better about donating if they know they are donating to a real person who has real need of the donation.

i will soon be making a list of all pages with donationcredit(codycoin) links so please do keep posting the urls to your pages if you use them.

that was done with Fireworks, but the key was that the cody graphic was made using layers by nudone with the top beak being one layer, and lower beak being another.

so it was complete luck that i was able to achieve the effect of the thing being in his beak so easily.

congrats on your new job!

i had a lot of trouble with the podcast this month - one of the segments resisted all efforts on my part to get it down to a low (48 or 64) kbs bitrate.  it was painfull.  so i eventually had to save it purely as 96kbs, that's why it's bigger.

i have recognized that this will be my last podcast production - i have to pass the torch to someone who has some audio radio show production blood in their veins..

now we just have to find someone with those skills..

the job is a bit of work. it involves:
1) reminding and soliciting people to send in segments (hard!)
2) selecting and cutting down clips to proper length
3) editing them together and recording intros between the segments
4) mixing in a bit of music
5) doing any processing to try to get volumes matched and reduce noise
6) rendering it as a full mp3

Looks nice.

This is big news - the people who made filemin, regmon, and a whole bunch of utilities, and who are some of the most knowledgable people about windows internals have now been acuired by microsoft.

Q. What are you announcing?
A. Winternals and Sysinternals have been acquired by Microsoft. Winternals is a leading provider of systems recovery tools for Windows-based enterprises worldwide and Sysinternals is one of the leading community and enthusiast sites for people interested in information about the internals of the Windows operating system.

Site/Forum Features / DonationCredits CodyCoin Web Page Links!
« Last post by mouser on July 18, 2006, 04:56 AM »
Ok people, in order to help people understand how they can use donationcredits link on their own websites and in their program about boxes, I'm going to create a list of all pages and programs which use a link to a members donationcredits page.

For more info on how and why to add a link to let people donate to you see:
https://www.donation...credits;detail=links

Or:
https://www.donation...index.php?topic=2942

In short, you can add a simple link from your page to:
http://donationcoder.com/donate/2

Like:

Donate to Me

Or:

Donate to Me

SO, to help people get into the groove, we are going to use this thread to invite people to post the urls to their web pages that link to their donationcredits page, or list any donationware programs that link to it.

AND I am going to make a special page on our main website listing these, so it's a great way to get some attention to your site/program.

Spread the news!

I've updated the info page that shows you how to make links on your own websites or programs more easily:
https://www.donation...credits;detail=links

in short, you can use a simple url now:
http://donationcoder.com/donate/2

where the 2 would be replaced by your forum user #.

note that we encourage you to configure exteneral links so that people can donate directly to you without using the donationcredits system if they want to, and you are encouraged to write a little blurb of text that gets shown to people when they visit your donation page.

I'm hoping that we can make donationcredits and dc a trusted place where people know that if they see the little gold coin on someone's website, they will know that they are donating to someone active in the donatinware scene, and will know what to expect when clicking on that coin, and that donating will be easy.

So that people can place that simple coin and link in their programs or on their websites to accept donations.
I advise everyone to still get yourself a way for people to directly donate to you if they prefer, and specify that in your profile; that way when people click on your donation page they will have a choice whether to use the microdonation system of donationcredits, or send you the money directly.

30669
for more help on making a link to let people donate to you visit this page in your profile options:

can i just say that i got a helpfull phone call and email and follow up advice from opendns to help us improve our nameservers.. i guess you can count me an opendns.com fan now too
30672
people!!! go fill out your bio info in your profile!!
even if it's just to link back to the post here in this thread.
30673
absolutely.
in fact, let me create an easier url for you to use.
right now you could right click on the gold coin next to your name to get the link:
https://www.donation...rch=37544;fields=uid

if people click on that they would get to the page where they could donate to you.

BUT THIS IS EVEN EASIER: http://donationcoder.com/donate/37544
(the number is your userid on the forum, so others just replace that with your number)

Also this is important, read this post on how to customize the "blurb" text that is shown when people click on your gold coin:

Developer's Corner / Re: Flow oriented programming
« Last post by mouser on July 18, 2006, 02:23 AM »
interesting comments -
i don't think it's the holy grail, but i think his points are good about the usefullness of dataflow-centric thinking for some problems.  in some ways i think this is what UML is after, but i tend to agree with him that i don't find it particularly compelling for me personally.

there are of course toolkits very much based on dataflow structures - namely things like QT which work with slots and fillers and message passing.

i also think he has a good point that OOP could be used as part of functional, imperative, logic, etc. so it's probably not the best way to classify a language.

ps. yep this is best moved to developer section - moving it.
