A new list each session is fine, though I can see there may be a benefit to some for it being maintained between sessions of use. Either way would work for my needs.

I'll probably add three buttons:  Clear, Save, and Copy

magician62: Did you want this to save the list between sessions or just give a button to save off the list when you want to?  Or both?

Great, it'll be a few days, but I have this on my ToDo (unless somebody else does it first).

I can confirm it was the UAC causing the drag drop issue.

Nice, thanks for tracking this down.

A utility that processes the links to a text file may still be benefficial.

First it would eliminate the need for enter, after each line, or preparing empty lines first.
Second it would eliminate moving hand to mouse to perform each enter operation.

Outcome, a lot faster processing. Simpler for those who tend to work one handed, i.e mostly/only mouse

Fair enough, I'll write it for you.  However, it will embed the RichEdit control that WordPad uses so you will need to leave UAC off.  Cool?

FWIW, I just drag-n-drop tested WordPad with both a text link and an image link from both Internet Explorer and Firefox.  All four tests were successful.  This was on Windows XP SP3.

Actually, now that I think about it, WordPad can accept a dropped URL and extract the text.  Yes, you would have to hit enter to get a new line but that's not so bad, right?  Let me know if that will be an acceptable solution.

Ad Muncher is terrific and takes care of the problem in all browsers, desktop RSS readers, etc..

Thumbs up from me as well.  Bar none, one of the best pieces of software I've EVER purchased.

Yes, I can easily make it save when YOU initiate closing the script.  Choosing Exit from its own tray menu or some such.  What I meant was that catching the system-wide shutdown message Windows sends when shutting down is hit-or-miss.  As for performance issues, that will be up to you; it should be negligible.

As mad as it sounds, a serach engine + a social network could be the solution.

Wakoopa is almost that.

I've used both Synergy and InputDirector in the past (with good results) so I'm interested to see how this develops.  From the video, it looks good so far.  And, yes, clipboard sharing is a must...even if it's only text.

Yeah, that is fine, but can it auto save when the script is shutting down (computer shutdown), or can it only save ocasionally, and the data in between saves is lost? I would like it to be as accurate as possible. :p

Auto-saving on computer shutdown can be hit-or-miss.  So, sure, I can make it auto-save every X number of seconds.  What are you comfortable with?  Ten seconds?  Thirty?

@Robby250: I went ahead and moved your post so no worries.  Apologies for the lack of reply on the KeyCounter thread.  I've been crazy busy with work the past couple of weeks so I haven't had much time to reply.  I can probably find time next week to flesh out that snippet I gave you.  If you don't mind, and to save me time, I'd like to just write it without a GUI.  In other words, you would simply view the data in any text editor.  It will be saved/loaded across sessions, though.  Would that be okay?

Except then the toolbar that won would absorb all the evil power of the defeated toolbar. Making it an ultra powerful evil toolbar that can't be uninstalled and leaves behind traces in the registry and other folders.

As the Immortals say, "Dem's da rules."   :P

P.S. I wonder what happens to the apps that already bundles crapware toolbars within the installers, will the end-users end up with two toolbars trying to kill each other in the same browser? LOL.

I hope it would be like Highlander meets Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome.  There can be only one!  Two toolbars enter...one toolbar leaves.

I'd pay to see it.   :P

I was hoping to avoid using another file manager, innocently hoped that someone would be able to figure out a registry solution.

This type of functionality is MUCH more than a simple registry change.  You may have some success with TaggedFrog.  It appears to work on Windows 7 x64 and integrates, somewhat, with Windows Explorer.

Wow! Did not know they were going around grabing things at random. Good to know, thanks.

You're welcome.  It's rather startling how many different software repository site my applications are listed on.  To reiterate, I have NEVER submitted my applications to any site other than my own personal site.  Yes, I do make PAD files for each application and, no, I'm not naïve enough to think that they wouldn't get picked up and spread around.  That being said, what really gets my goat is that CNET is probably receiving remuneration (however small  :P) from my work.  Furthermore, I absolutely cringe at the thought of users of my software thinking I've sold out -- including toolbars and all manner of crap like that.  Ugh.     I pride myself on providing free software which, to me, includes being free of extra crap like this garbage.

This really pisses me off since some of my software is listed on that site and now has this extra setup garbage.  FWIW, I have never submitted any of my software to ANY site other than my own.  I have sent an email to CNet and have asked them to remove my software from their site.  For posterity, and since I had to submit it via their online form, here is the email I sent them:

Hello,

My name is Jody Holmes and I am the author of at least 22 pieces of software currently listed on the CNET Downloads site.  It has recently come to my attention that CNET has started wrapping these downloads within their own installer.  I am vehemently against this sort of behaviour and would like all of my software removed from website immediately.

I have never submitted my software to any website other than my own personal site.  I will assume your listings were added via an automated PAD file mechanism of some sort.  Therefore, I do not feel I am bound by your Terms of Service (if that mattered).

Again, please remove the following pieces of software from your listings:
