All I could think about while watching that video was Vertical Video Syndrome:

Thanks for an amazing 10 years! I've never been an active member of any other website or group for as long as I've been a part of DC.

With other sites/groups, my life or interests often take me in another direction, if the community itself doesn't become hostile or stagnant first.

This place is really special! :-*

One nice thing about the C1 over the RPi/2 is the gigabit ethernet. I was planning to use my C1 as a Plex media server or other Owncloud/NAS type device, and I thought having a fast connection to the network would be really useful for that.

But so far I haven't gotten Plex or Owncloud to work on the C1 how I want them to. Plex refuses to transcode videos because the image I used to install was built for a TV box system with poor CPU capabilities. IMO the C1 can handle transcoding perfectly fine. I converted a 90+ minute mkv to mp4 format in about 2 minutes just to test. I'm sure the C1 could transcode and stream without a problem at that rate. And for Owncloud, I was following a tutorial that had me customize things a bit (by using nginx instead of apache) and somewhere along the way things didn't work as the tutorial said they should.

So for now I've just got a $35 Mumble server. :) But I keep playing with it.
3029
Yeah. I think the C1 still has slightly better specifications than the RPi2, but the RPi is a lot more widely adopted/supported, which means that you're more likely to find ARMv7 software that works with the RPi as opposed to having to figure out how to configure and compile things from source yourself for the C1.
3030
I did get one. Though now with the Rpi2 which has similar specifications, it's much harder to choose between the two.

Windows 10 makes disabling UEFI Secure Boot optional:

http://www.extremete...er-operating-systems

That is to say, Microsoft required an option to disable Secure Boot previously, but now that option is optional with Windows 10, meaning some hardware may not allow you to install non-Secure Boot OSes.

If your Windows 7/8 install is considered invalid, you get nags and your wallpaper turns black. It doesn't say that exact thing will happen on Windows 10 but it doesn't say it won't.

But I know people running non-legit copies that don't have warning screens or wallpapers blanking out. The OS gives no indication that I know of that the copy isn't legitimate. Does that mean they'll upgrade to a legit Win 10?

No ISO yet.  You have to do the update method:

https://www.tenforum...ndows-10-builds.html

This doesn't work for me. I can't get build 9926 to update to 10041. The instructions in that link don't do what it says it should do. I don't see a "Preview Builds" tab in Update & Recovery when I follow the instructions.

When I check for updates I see something called something like fbl_impressive_10041 Professional and a Windows Defender definition update, but both of those things quickly disappear and it says "your device is up to date"

I wasn't able to update my Win 10 preview using Windows update. It tried, but said there was an error and that my previous version had been restored.

I think once you upgraded and got a license key, you could then find an ISO online somewhere and install fresh, using your spiffy new license key. But I could be wrong about that.

Link to portable version still isn't working for me. Maybe you should host it somewhere more reliable. Like a dcmember server, or Google Drive/Dropbox?

And here is the results, on a serious, in-depth article on cloud computing. Try to read it with a straight face.  :D

I'm only a few paragraphs in and already it's hilarious! Thanks!

When I talk to executives about my butt, three questions always come up: Why will my butt be a big deal beyond the IT department? What are the main concerns and areas of skepticism, and how valid are they? And how should we get started?

I asked for a special portable edition (no installer needed) which I still have. I could mirror/host/post it if needed.

Did i beat 40hz to post about this?  ;)

This is an RC (Release Candidate) release. Not the official, final, stable release. I'm not sure 40hz would normally post about betas or RCs. :)

But thanks for posting. Cool news!

There will be a transition period of two release cycles (12 weeks total) during which unsigned extensions will only generate a warning in Firefox.

After the transition period, it will not be possible to install unsigned extensions in Release or Beta versions of Firefox. There won’t be any preferences or command line options to disable this.

Installation of unsigned extensions will still be possible on Nightly and Developer Edition, as well as special, unbranded builds of Release and Beta that will be available mainly for developers testing their extensions.
-all of the paragraph

I don't want to run an unstable Nightly or a Developer Edition, nor do I want "special" builds just to run some extensions. If I'm going to go for special, unbranded builds, I might as well go for IceWeasel or Pale Moon or Project Spartan.

I got two of these JAM Plus Portable Speakers which can connect to each other for stereo sound and play music via bluetooth.

Not quite the same thing, but they work just fine with my BT devices and sound pretty good, IMO. But I'm no audiophile and I never listen to the radio, so I'm not sure my car even has working speakers.

Hmm, I hope it doesn't go the way of MaxThon with only the few writing extensions:

https://blog.mozilla...ng-safer-experience/

I was nodding my head in agreement with their reasoning, thinking it would be much like the Google Play Store, until I got to this part:

After the transition period, it will not be possible to install unsigned extensions in Release or Beta versions of Firefox. There won’t be any preferences or command line options to disable this.

So, for my own good, you're not even going to allow me to override your decision and install whatever software/extensions I want on my own machine?

How does an open source group even come to a decision like that? How is that open?

I have to join with mouser and say thank you for your contributions to this site, and especially for Cody.

This site wouldn't be what it is without Cody as its mascot.

Edit: Primarily I'm looking to buy online.  Walmart, BestBuy and Tiger Direct exist down here.  But they are a hike and a half from here.

Wait, Tiger Direct is a brick & mortar store? I thought it was online only.

Anyway, I can't really help much, except to say that I bought this 128GB HP USB 3.0 thumbdrive (for less than the current listing price) and it seems OK to me. I think I get at least/about 20MB/s write speeds, if not faster. But USB is still pretty slow in general. Large file transfers, such as filling the drive up or making backups, take a long time.

I bought it to use it as an external drive for my WiiU, but the WiiU partitions USB drives using a proprietary format, and something about this particular drive kept losing the formatting details or something. I kept losing all the data on it. Other USB thumbdrives drives I tested in the WiiU (8GB or smaller) didn't have a problem with keeping the data.

But it's been working perfectly--without data loss--when formatted using NTFS or other "standard" (exFat, ext4, etc.) formats.

"LiveCoding" has been a thing for years. Plenty of people stream their development on Twitch.tv while they work on games or other projects. Especially as part of game jams such as Ludum Dare.
